Chapter 35:

Devil Sabnock III

Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.

"We will march. We have waited a long time to exist in this world. We will not be denied again. " The voice of the demon Vepar roared in the voice of the fallen queen. The white worm threw itself forward with its gaping mouth. Cao jumped to the side, barely evading it, and ran back towards its neck.

"Interesting you can speak so easily, it is a pity we don't have the time for a conversation!" With his twin blades, Cao sliced at the beast's neck till the long tentacles that came from its body forced him back. He slices at them to keep them at bay, but he was suddenly attacked from the side by another of the white devils. The demon's offspring did not lose the chance to strike at his back. He turned on his feet, barely blocking one of the monster's claws, but another hit him on the shoulder, ripping his flesh. As the beast charged forward, Aurora kicked him off balance with her inhuman strength and quickly shot the creature in the face with her handgun. She quickly rushed at the confused creature and pierced its chest with her blade. Cao looked at his shoulder where a huge white worm that had been released from the creature's claws tried to enter his wound, but flames grew from his wound, calcinating the worm. The flames closed any traces of his painful wound and took on the shape of a bird on his shoulder.

"We can't allow a single one of these things to exist in this world. Show them no quarter!" Cao ordered to all who could listen. The white creature had fallen dead from Aurora's attack. Fortunately, the thralls lacked the regeneration capabilities of a true demon. Aurora's demonic eye glowed in anticipation.

"Jump to the left, right now! " She screamed at Cao as she rushed to the opposite side of the demon. He nodded, understanding her vision of the future, and jumped as the massive tail of the worm swiped the place where they were standing, breaking down the asphalt street. Cao could see Aurora on the other side of the worm, where she evaded its massive mouth by rushing before it descended upon her. The worm could stretch forward as fast as a viper snake if they were to stop moving, if only for a second. They would die so fast that their regeneration would be meaningless.

"Oh my, Vepar, you are very desperate. Are you that scared of going back? " Aurora mocked it, or rather the demon within her, as she evaded its head again and quickly pierced its neck with her blade in a movement so fast it was hard for Cao to follow.

The creature bled profoundly. She had opened quite a wound on its skin, but the beast recoiled from a swipe at her by using its neck like a whip, hitting her right in the chest and throwing her in the air like a ragdoll. The white worm prepared itself to launch forward, but before it could reach her again, Cao struck against its neck, using all of his strength to jump forward, throwing the beast off its course just enough for Aurora to roll out of the way. Cao walked towards her and the birds of flames surrounded her.

"Did you strike it, knowing that it was going to hit you? " She smiled at Cao's furious complaints.

"Sure did. Why not? You can just patch me up, right old friend? "Aurora tried to laugh. She wasn't the demon at the moment, but she was still as aloof as always. She was in a lot of pain and failed to truly laugh. There was no way some of her ribs weren't broken.

"The two of you are just unbearable." He touched her body, spreading a warm flame around her. As she finally began to get on her feet, he looked back at the beast in the distance. The creature was bleeding profoundly from the gap in its neck as it tried to prepare for another assault.

The worm twisted itself, its blood dripping all around its white skin. It screeched and the many teeth that grew from its body all raised as well. Like a tree, its many heads began to spread, biting at the air to bite down on anything they could find. Hearing that pitiful sound, the demon thralls stopped their assault and turned towards the two captains. They all knew that their mother was at risk and would now rush to her cries for help. The swarm answered hurriedly, but so did the hunters. The enemy had shown them their back and thought they were being pushed into a corner. They were now free to strike at their leisure.

They opened fire. Even the city guard could tell that this was their one chance to change things, and though they did not know the people in black in comparison to such primal horrors, they ignored their fear of armed strangers.

Aurora and Cao could tell immediately that they were about to be overwhelmed. Aurora's eye began to spin in her eye socket as she was bombarded with the vision of her own death over and over again. She put her hand over her eye and gritted her teeth.

"If you want to stay alive, we need to kill that thing right now!" Aurora ran towards the worm and Cao followed with annoyance. The thralls behind them were stopped by a grenade being thrown in front of them as they were quickly blocked by the hunters in black suits who all aimed their rifles at them. The city guard did as well, right behind them. They forced all of the creatures to be trapped in a three-side formation.

"Excellent, Aurora, I need you to strike at its neck when I give my signal. Understand?" Cao looked back and their men opened fire on the beast and smirked.

"Sure thing pops! " The demon threw its whole body straight at them and they ran in opposite directions to escape it. The tentacles at the head of the worm stretched to grab them both. Aurora quickly saw it coming and was already in a position to shoot them with her handgun just before they reached them. Each one was a small target but was destroyed in a single shot. Her bullets ran out and there was no time to recharge them, so she simply threw her gun and killed the last one with her blade. Cao cut their heads with both blades, but a few of them managed to grab his arm.

"Damn it." He prepared himself to be bitter and lose his arm, but the head that was encroaching on him was suddenly shot. At a distance, a tall man with a long brown bear was aiming a sniper rifle at them. The only one that hadn't taken its place in the formation, remained behind to give them an opening.

"I'm not Veronica, but I have your back captain." Mr.Vlad breathed and took another shot at the head of the worm, making it recoil.

"Now Aurora!" Cao screamed as he jumped towards the head of the worm with both blades. He cut at its neck, pressing with all of his strength from both sides, using his blades like scissors. He put both his feet around its thick neck to try to remain upon it, but the beast, in a howl of pain, threw him down with great force. The wound on its neck opened widely.

"Got it, I can see it clear as day." Aurora jumped behind its neck, grabbing it to hold on, and quickly struck at its wound with her blade. She used all of her strength to the point where her very blade broke down but so did her neck. It finally snapped and the whole demon fell to the ground. Aurora quickly jumped out of its neck and towards the corpse hanging on its body. There she reached her hand into the raincoat and grabbed a long white worm inside it.

"There you are, Vepar. Sorry, but your little time away from hell has been cut short. " Aurora's tone changed as she smiled excitedly at the worm that was trying to bite her face off to no avail. "At least you will not be returning to hell. You will become nothing now. The demon Amii, still possessing her, squashed the worm in her hand, and a green flame began to spread across its entire body. Cao got up with difficulty as he saw the demon burn away in the ethereal flames.

"Good riddance, if we only had the time to interrogate it, but I have to admit we barely made it this time around." Cao cleaned his sleeves as he walked towards Aurora.

There was suddenly an earthquake and both Cao and Aurora looked back. They could both tell the direction of that terrible rumbling.

"It seems like this was enough. Our old lady is making her move. "'Aurora looked at the handle of her broken blade before discarding it by throwing it to the ground.

"Quite so, there is no going back for any of us now." They both stood there looking in the distance.

Not that far from there, the battle for Center City was at an end. One of the demon thralls ran off desperately, managing to pass through the city guard and towards the city.

"This is the last one. Don't let it run away. "A guardsman screamed.

The demon was about to jump past the barricade when it received a shot in the head. One last person was waiting there. A short, black-haired woman was hidden there. She was Aya, a hunter. She opened fire again at the creature's chest and again and again as she jumped over the barricade herself and pointed at the beast's heads. She looked at its eyes for a moment and pulled the trigger one last time, making it collapse.

"It is done, the hunt is over."

She looked at the beast's corpse one last time before having her attention distracted by something in the distance. The sudden earthquake created an eruption of the earth outside of the town. Around the area, the collapsed skyscrapers were hanging against each other. Something finally made those buildings completely collapse. From the earth, a massive tower emerged behind a thick cloud of earth.

A tower rose into the sky.
