Chapter 1:

One-Shot Chapter: The ~Meowournal~

~Meowournal~ (Edited by a Cat)

On a perfectly fine sunny day, I was doing my walk time as usual. Roaming around the town, doing nothing but staring at the road while walking, glancing from side to side to check the area, and just straight up feeling the breeze.

It was normal until it wasn’t— I found a journal. In the middle of the road.

“Meowournal…” I murmured, frowning at the sight.

Seemed normal... I thought. And as a human being, my curiosity got the best of me. Because why not? I find the cover of the journal to be intriguing.

Because it’s the… Meowournal!!!

Yeah. That’s the title of the journal itself. Maybe it’s supposed to be a cat’s journal or something. I mean, it’s the meow journal. That could be it. Right?

~Meowournal~

(Edited by a Cat)

I picked it up, and immediately noticed the weight of it. “T-this is heavy…” I muttered as I lifted it.

Damn, It’s heavier than it looks. As I managed to hold it and feel its weight, I was surprised at how such a small journal managed to get this heavy. I tried looking at it, checking all the sides, and it doesn’t look heavy at all.

It felt like I was holding a big-ass dictionary. I thought that it might be the case.

And since I picked it up already, I should at least take a look, right? With a heavy anticipation, I opened the Meowournal with a big smile on my face. Only to find out that the journal is full of the cat’s vocabulary.

“Meow…” I whispered as I read through the pages. “Meow…”

As I flipped through the pages full of Meow~ , I was left wondering whether I should take this journal seriously or not.

I’m a human. It might be wrong for me to read this. It’s not written for me, It’s written for the cats. And I’m not a cat!!! I screamed in my head and nodded as if I gained enlightenment.

But with more pages still left on the Meowournal, I was curious to see if there would be a difference in the pages itself. And in no time, I was able to prove myself right.

There are pages with scratches, and I can say those are scratches from their claws.

Why they did do that? I don’t know. It’s a cat journal. I don’t know what the cat-author wanted to deliver with these messages.

That’s not the only thing, as there are Meow~ and scratches, there are also lots of cats’ muddy paws. Those are the three things I could only find in the Meowournal, and there are no other than that.

I closed the journal, finding myself in a state of confusion. “What did I just read?” I said to myself, unsure of what the Meowournal is supposed to be about.

Since the journal is supposed to be written by the cat author, then there’s a possibility I could find a help from a cat in the town to help me understand it! That’s it!

“…” I paused and chuckled at my own thoughts. “But then, it might be fun to just roam around and find a cat this time.”

With the plan in mind, as always, I continued roaming the town. From seconds to minutes, and to almost an hour of walking around, I realized that I missed something.

I scratched my head. “Crap. I totally forgot there are no cats in this town!”

In truth, I haven’t seen any cats in years. I don’t know it myself, but it’s been years since I last saw a cat. I thought as I turned my head to the journal in my hand. “This journal made me realize that I forgot about cats.”

I stopped in my tracks and sighed. “Then where should I find these cats?”

As I was looking for an answer, a sudden Meow~ called to me.

“!!!” I immediately turned around to the noise, finding a cat with a black and white pattern on it. “What!? Where did you come from!” I exclaimed.

But that’s not the only thing about it…

The cat is wearing a kid cap and a backpack…

“Meow!!!” the cat said, and with no warning, the cat did an impossible thing.

“Hah—?” I froze at the sight of the cat. “The… The cat is standing!!!” I shouted, looking at the cat who was standing in front of me.

“Meow Meow Meow” the cat said, crossing its arms.

The cat continued talking, but I wasn’t able to understand it. All I knew was that it was standing with its arms crossed.

I thought that the posture of the cat was something else. It was a menace. Like it could kill me at any second, that’s the vibes I’m getting from it.

Then, it pointed at me. “Meow!!!” it says, its voice was louder, like it was screaming at me.

I was taken aback. “Why?” I muttered, raising an eyebrow. “What is it?”

It continued pointing at me. I looked around me to find where is it pointing, and then I noticed the Meowournal in my hand. “The Meowournal?” I said as I looked back at the cat.

The cat nodded in response and said, “Meow, Meow.”

Should I give it?

But shouldn’t I ask about its contents first?

With hesitation to give the Meowournal to the cat, I decided to ask a favor. “Could you at least tell me what is this supposed to be?” I asked, wondering if it could help me. “I was the one who found it. You could at least tell me right?” I reasoned.

The cat nodded once and continued, “Meow Meow Meow… Meow Meow, Meow Meow Meow.” the cat paused and then took a deep breath. With hand gestures like it was giving a speech, it continued talking. “Meow Meow Meow. Meow Meow, Meow Meow Meow.”

I nodded in response.

The cat turned around and pointed at its backpack. “Meow Meow.” the cat said as he approached me. “Meow.” it continued, with its hand open.

Is it asking for the Meowournal? I thought. Realizing that this might be the case, I gave the journal to the cat.

The cat bowed, and said, “Meow…”

I instinctively gave a bow too. “Yeah…”

The cat with the Meowournal in its hand, turned to the left and pointed at the mountains. “Meow Meow Meow” it said.

I nodded, not understanding a thing. “Hmmm.”

With a final bow, the cat said waved its hand before walking away with the Meowournal, walking towards to the mountain.

I stared at its back as it continued walking away, slowly and slowly, being erased from my sight. With the cat gone, I was left staring at nothingness, wondering what the Meowournal was even supposed to be about.

“I’m not a cat. So maybe I’m not supposed to pry about it.” I muttered as I continued walking. Even though I was convinced that I was not supposed to be the recipient of the Meowournal, I still couldn’t help but wonder what is it, and why is it left behind.

As I continued roaming, I came across a poster in the electric post. I approached it, only realizing it was a missing poster of a cat. Then I immediately noticed something familiar about it.

M I S S I N G

Meowouro

Meowouro? Isn’t this the cat earlier? I thought, as I looked at the poster. The cat has a kid cap and a backpack, with a black and white pattern on it.

“It’s him!” I exclaimed.

When I was about to look for the contacts, I found myself looking at a poster full of scratches from a cat, making the contacts not visible.

“Oh, what a menace.” I said with a straight face.
