Chapter 35:

Hiroshi's Tragic Failure (3) - Great Encounter Battle Arc

Engulfed in Darkness - Becoming a Villain in Another World

The group looked on as they watched Hiroshi sit down with Blossom and her family at the kitchen table, eating the lasagna made by Blossom's mother. It was such a nice scene. They had accepted Hiroshi into their family. They smiled, joked and laughed all night. Eventually, Hiroshi went home, where his adoptive parents never asked about his day.

The video continued with a compilation of different dates Hiroshi and Blossom went on. One day, they spent hours looking for a dress for Blossom, which had Hiroshi ready to collapse from exhaustion after a long day. Some time later, they had a date where the watched movies all day and cuddled on the couch in Blossom’s house.

Another date showed them going to the park, where they held hands and walked around the path all day. Pointing out at cool looking trees, looking at the birds singing, and even kissing each other on a park bench. After that, they laid down beside each other on some grass and looked longingly at the stars.

“Oshi?”

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“We only need each other, right?”

“Of course, darling. We are each other’s rocks in our lives.”

Blossom snuggled into Hiroshi, and they relaxed once more in their own comfort. They told each other that they loved each other and gazed deeply into each other’s eyes.

“I don’t understand. This is so beautiful…is that the reason why he hates this new world? That he left his girlfriend behind? I don’t understand,” Wisteria finally spoke up. If this was supposed to be Hiroshi’s biggest tragedy in his life. Why was it so peaceful?

Almost like clockwork, the video cut to Hiroshi lying in bed. He was staring at the ceiling, completely dead serious face.

“Here we are, God of Darkness. Going through this human’s memories, this is six months before he got transported here. Did you know he’s from a different world? Is that why you chose him?” Zetsubo asked Kuro-Yami, who stayed completely silent. “No matter. He had been dating this ‘Blossom’ character for almost a year. How adorable! And also…how very sad.”

The crowd looked on. Hiroshi’s phone began buzzing, and he picked it up. His poker face immediately burst into a smile.

“Hey sweetheart! What’s up!”

“Hi Oshi! Oh, my goodness, I miss you so much!”

“Me too! Do you want me to come over?”

“Sadly, I can’t. My father needs me in his office today. You know how bad he is with technology and presentations,” Blossom giggled over the phone. “I was just calling to wonder if you want to come into his office today with me?”

“Hmmm…I’m sorry sweetheart, I don’t think I really want to. I hate offices and work and stuff.”

“That’s alright, Oshi! I will talk to you later! Bye!”

“Bye sweetheart!”

The phone hung up. Hiroshi got up and began drawing one of Blossom’s favourite characters. He thought it would be a nice present for her after a long day. After three hours, Hiroshi’s adoptive mother came in. She hardly ever came into his room.

“Hiroshi? Did you see the news?” she asked, not paying attention to what he was doing.

“No?”

“An office block blew up in the city centre. It was attack against the company, I do believe. Isn’t that crazy?”

“Wait…show me!” Hiroshi got up urgently.

“Here,” the woman showed him the news on her phone. Hiroshi’s heart sank.

It was the building Blossom and her father were in.

He immediately sprinted out of the house and charged straight to the city centre. He was constantly running the whole way, as he could not afford the bus into the city. Eventually, the adrenaline brought him outside the building, which was almost destroyed. The fire was everywhere, and the top floors were in ruin. Hiroshi ran forward but was stopped by a local firefighter.

“Sorry son, but you can’t go in there,” the firefighter told him assertively.

“Please! My girlfriend’s in there!”

“I’m sorry, but no…” The firefighter barely finished his sentence before Hiroshi shoved him and ran past, straight into the burning building. He looked around, calling out Blossom’s name. After a few minutes of searching, he finally found her, crumpled under a huge slab of concrete.

“Oshi! Is that you?” Blossom cried out

“Yes, Sweetheart, it’s me! I’m here now! You’re going to be alright!”

“Save me! Please!”

“I will, don’t you worry! Deep breaths, Sweetheart!”

“It burns! It burns! Please Oshi, it hurts so bad!”

“You’re so strong, Sweetheart! I’m going to get you out!”

“Arghhhhhhh!” She yelled out, just as more debris fell in front of her, and Hiroshi just about dodged. However, when he looked back, Blossom was unresponsive.

“Sweetheart? Sweetheart! Please, tell me you’re okay! No…No! Please, don’t go! You’re all I have left! I’m so sorry! This is all my fault! If only I came with you, I would have saved you!” Hiroshi yelled out, with his hands on his head. Eventually, the video cut to Hiroshi carrying her lifeless body out of the building. Blossom’s mother and father were there, and her mother ran over and cried as Hiroshi set her body down. His face was completely blank.

“Oh, my baby girl! No! No no no!” she cried out. “Why didn’t you save her?! You ran into that building, didn't you?! Why did she die?! This is all your fault!” she yelled at Hiroshi in frustration. Hiroshi clenched his fists. He couldn’t hold back the anger anymore.

“Sure. I will take the blame! It was my fault! But what about your husband?! While I was up there, trying to save her, you were down here, wasting your life away just standing there! Why did you not go after her?! Huh?!” The man looked down at the floor in shame. “She was everything to me! The human race loves pointing blame, doesn’t it! I’m doing it, your wife is doing it! I hate…I hate everything! She was all I had in my pathetic excuse for a life!” Hiroshi yelled and ran away crying. He didn't save her. He couldn't save her.

On the way back home, Hiroshi noticed a person, struggling to bring a couch out of a van. He assisted him, but he was not thanked. The man walked into the house with his couch. Hiroshi knew Blossom's death was his fault. He was going to help everybody, to compensate for her demise.

“I…My fault…My fault…My fault…Didn’t save her…She would want me to help others…My fault.” He chanted to himself.

It all made sense now. Hiroshi was blamed for the incident involving Blossom, and in turn accepted it, and tried to help people out the best he could to compensate.

It was why Hiroshi hated humanity. Always blaming others. Not being grateful. Not being at peace.

Hiroshi didn’t even go to the funeral.
