Chapter 37:
Engulfed in Darkness - Becoming a Villain in Another World
Hiroshi must have cried for over half an hour. He didn’t want to go and live through that pain all over again. It was the first time since Blossom’s death that he felt any kind of emotion at all. He thought feelings were such a waste of time.
Eventually, he parted himself from Wisteria and gave a sad smile.
“Thanks, Wisteria, I’m alright now,” he sniffed, wiping his eyes. Wisteria gave him a big smile back. It warmed his own heart inside.
“It’s ok, Hiroshi…look,” she said, sitting down beside him and looking out at the river. “I understand why you hate humanity. And to be honest? You were justified in doing so.”
“That family was all I had, Wisteria…and…I failed them…and I was outcast.”
“It wasn’t your fault…but if I know you saying that won’t make you feel any better. We are going to be great friends, Hiroshi. I will make sure that you will love humanity again, and have a new family that loves you,” she said with determination, cupping his cheek. “I’m going to fix you, Hiroshi.”
Hiroshi blushed. Why was she so close? Did he feel anything for her? He wasn’t too sure yet. Maybe it was because she was just like Blossom. Maybe...
With that, Wisteria got up and opened up a transmitter on her arm, that wasn’t there when she was taking part in the tournament. She spoke into it in a bold and confident manner, keeping her eyes on Hiroshi.
“Look for us by the river. He’s ready.” She hung up the transmitter immediately, and Hiroshi got up himself, looking at his friend in curiosity.
“Um…where did you get that?”
“Tomo gave it to me. He will be here shortly. Is that ok, Osh…Hiroshi?”
Hiroshi’s heart melted. He had only just realized that ever since his memories had been shown, Wisteria had not called him Oshi once. It was as of she didn’t want to bring those memories back up. Hiroshi was still skeptical. Why was this woman being so nice to him? He needed to figure out…
“Hmm…I don’t know how I feel about that…and it’s alright, you can still call me Oshi, I like that nickname anyway,” he explained to her. She blushed a really deep shade of red, and one thought crossed Hiroshi’s mind as she nodded in acceptance.
So cute…
His thoughts were interrupted as Tomo landed just beside them, with Bibi in his right hand and Kage in his left hand. Tomo was in a heavy sweat, and Bibi had a look of absolute terror on her face.
“What the hell was that for idiot! Can you not fly any slower!?” she yelled, hitting Tomo in the shoulder. “You could have killed us!”
“I can fly at near light speed. Would you have rather me do that?!” he retorted in annoyance. Just as they were about to bicker, Kage spoke up.
“That’s enough!”
The four others were instantaneously stunned into silence. His voice was so commanding and loud, and it was clear that he had been a commander in the war. The group sat down and made a semi-circle around him.
“I don’t get it, Mr. Kage. Tomo was announced as the winner of the tournament. Why are me, Wisteria and Hiroshi here too?” Bibi asked. “Not that I’m complaining. I think I deserve a little payback,” she hissed, directing her annoyance at Tomokazu, who looked away as his spine shivered.
“You would be correct. And just Kage is fine,” he nodded, continuing to explain himself. “Yes, as the winner, I will be training Tomokazu for the next year. However…I have decided to take on you three as well. I know you guys have what it takes to kill the Gods.”
“What?! Kage, you’re a hero! Why would you want us to kill the Gods?!” Wisteria gasped, putting her hand to her mouth. Kage slunk to the ground and put his hand on his forehead, as if trying to remember something awful.
“The Gods took control of the both armies during the war. Those Gods sent out good people to get killed. That’s fine on its own. Wars happen. People die. But they would send us in on impossible missions. Sometimes, in a group of fifty, I would be the last one left alive. They never learnt. They just kept sending more and more and more people. They were toying with us. It is like a little game to them. They sicken me to my core…which is why I’m going to train you guys up to make you strong enough to kill them.”
“I have to work with Tomokazu?! Hell no! He is an absolute psychopath!” Hiroshi argued, while Tomokazu got to his feet.
“Oh yeah? Got a problem with me?”
“Maybe I will let Kuro-Yami take over again. Who knows? Maybe he will actually kill you this time.”
“Stop!” Kage boomed again. The two men gave each other an angry look, however they obeyed and sat back down. Kage took a deep breath and spoke once more.
“Over the next twelve months, you will be training every single day with me, minus one day every month, where you can do whatever you want. Team bonding, you could say. I will teach you guys on sword techniques, fitness, and most importantly, how to harness your power. Wisteria told me that her and Hiroshi lives in Lightley. That is where we will train. When we get to Lightley, I need you, Tomokazu, to explain what Carte Blanche is. We will need to learn it within a year if we are to defeat the Gods.”
The four looked at each other. They weren’t practically warm to each other (minus Wisteria and Hiroshi) but they needed to work together. The Gods were way too strong at their current level. They needed to become stronger.
They needed to become God killers together.
