Chapter 74:

Devil Cadejo II

Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.

It was a loud crash, Rush Collins wasted no time being subtle, with the iron shield on his arm he broke down the door of the factory and stepped inside with both of his companions aiming their rifles at each side of the abandoned ironwork. There was no response of any kind the place seemed completely empty.

"This place sure is huge captain. I'll be real easy for the enemy to snipe us." The vice-captain looked around with his scope, there were massive machines and catwalks high above the factory, and there was no shortage of places to stage an ambush, coming here with such a low number was starting to look like a bad idea.

"Better keep moving then."Rush Collins charged forward and the two of them immediately followed him, the old factory was shrouded in shadows. The only light came from the broken windows but even then the sun banished completely. As they walked through the factory they remembered the map that was given to them by the information office, their best bet for finding the kidnapped target would be in the basement so for now, that would be their goal.

A gunshot rang out. Collins stopped and raised his shield, the bullet crashed against the shield it would have been a direct shot to his head otherwise, His companions aimed their rifles forward while remaining behind him, and they managed to see a dark figure behind multiple iron barrels. They both fired and the figure disappeared taking cover.

"Let's split, try to keep your heads down!"Rush spoke while keeping behind his shield.

"Roger Captain." They both screamed. Rush ran straight to the barrel and the other two split in opposite directions to take cover before the machines in the factory. Rush threw the barrels out of the way and raised his shield again, he saw the figure wearing a black duster already quite far from him. She was quite small and wore a big cowboy hat, her attire looked as old and washed down as the factory around them.

"Well, I've never seen your face before, you sure took a hard mission for a rookie bounty hunter ." The old woman sneered, she was clearly the woman on the poster, the bounty hunter queen Rigoberta, Collins frowned at them as she aimed her revolver at his face, she was in no mood to talk. His shield took on a furious expression.

"Try to shoot if you dare, worm," Sabnock spoke as his eyes shinned red. The old woman smiled with her crooked teeth, unflinched by the monstrous face on the shield.

"Don't mind me then." With a quick movement she shot again always aiming between his eyes, but forced her down using the massive shield like a wall, taking on demons with just guns was always hard, that bullet had to kill its target in one shot or it would be useless, knowing that Rush knew she was always going to aim for the head or the heart. The woman remained standing as he reached and crashed his shield towards her head, she hopped back with an eerie calmness evading his furious strike.

"You think bullets can't have you because you are a demon? You really are just a rookie." She ran towards him this time, and he faced her head with his demonic shield, she shot with her gun towards his head and he deflected it by raising his shield, but she didn't even hesitate to pull the trigger again, shooting three bullets in that old revolver in what seemed to be a single second.

One he blocked with his shield, the second shot hit him on his arm, and the third one she lowered her aim below the shield and sent a shot straight to his knee. Blood spurted out and he immediately felt, his bone crack and fell to his knee. Lucky for him her six-shoot revolver was out of bullets.

"Even demons can't just get bullets out of their bodies without medical help, let's see how well ya fight when full of lead big guy." She opened her duster showing that inside them were entire clips of bullets, enough for that simple revolver to take down the twenty men that had made her a legend. A bullet shot rang but it was not from her revolver, she hesitated from shooting as she was shot from the side and rolled to hide behind a furnace machine, she leaned from behind cover and aimed at the direction she was shot from. She locked eyes with the vice-captain O'connel but before she could shoot back she ducked from another shot as Daisy opened fire with her rifle from behind a pillar forcing her to retreat. With a scream he cut short, Rush forced himself to stand up and retreated by taking cover behind some crates.

"So there are three of them, two of them just regular humans, they are quite bold coming at me in such low numbers, don't they know that I'm never truly alone." Rigoberta began to reload the chambers on her revolver as she stared at her own shadow, it stretched a flew off moving through the floor and away from her.

O'conell had her pinned down and was staring at her location with his rifle, he breathed slowly, he knew that a demon would hardly die from a gunshot but, he had full trust that it would be enough of an opening for his captain to finish the job, he might not be a hunter but he had faced plenty of demons along with Rush thought the decade. Is because of that experience that he had a good sense of danger and could feel that something was staring at him. He spun and ducked aiming his rifle, feeling something close on his back what stared at the barrel of his gun were a pair of red eyes. A hound had slowly ascended from his shadow, a dog of pure dense black hair, but its face was not that of a normal animal, its skin ended on its neck, its head was a skull with only the piercing red eyes inside it, but the creature still opened its mouth, showing the rows of teeth, the vice-captain had no idea how such a thing could be alive, but he had no doubt those teeth could rip his skin and bones alike.

He tried to pull the trigger but he couldn't move his fingers at all, as he stared into those red glowing eyes everything around him began to disappear. enshrouded in darkness and he saw flames slowly begin to cover his body. The hound slowly began to walk towards him while growling, the beast was preparing to jump at his neck, O'connel let go of his gun as he felt his hands burn and screamed in terror, the faceless dog jumped opening its bone head and showing his teeth and a burning furnace inside its maw. The beast jumped towards his face and he was stared down into place by those red eyes. Daisy moved in front of him and blocked the bite of the hound by using her rifle like a handle, the demon bit down on the rifle and kicked him back throwing it to the ground, like a wounded dog it howled but rather than crashing into the ground he slips inside it as if it was water disappearing completely into the shadow.

"Hey vice-captain, why are you spacing out like that, this is not a good moment to go all senile on us."

"I think I saw hell or something like that." O'Connell slapped himself, it seemed that he had been in a trance of sorts. The two of them ducked down and saw Ruch roll towards them evading a gunshot, the three of them had reunited behind a pillar while the old gunner simply shot her warning shots in expectation.

"Captain, I think if you stare into the demon's eyes it will trap you in an illusion, that was not on the notes they give us."

"Seriously, I was starting to wonder if she would even use her demon, how strong is that thing?" Rush asked him and Daisy cut him off before he could say anything.

"Not much I could force him back and im a regular human, I don't think it is that much stronger than a regular dog, although it can move inside the walls, most dogs don't do that."

"Well at least is not that powerful a demon, but man it is scarier than those thrall back when the worm came." O'Connell reloads with a tired look.

"I think that demon is only here to assist her, this is bad if she knows how to work together, she will use it to get a clear shot at us, we will have to be careful with every single shadow, but that woman is probably much more dangerous than the devil. We need to get her before she gets good at us." The two nodded as Rush leaned to the side of the pillar while using his shield as cover.

"Good job, we almost got them, next time will go for the red hair first." Rigoberta was crouching against a pillar on the opposite side and began to pet the demonic hound it was a bit awkward since its head was just a skull, but the dog still waged his tail. She stopped suddenly as the devil hound began to bark towards the wall of the building.

"Huh, you are smelling another demon, boy? Geez, I guess it was too much to ask for only one demon to track me down, this sundown is going to be a long one."Rigoberta smiled tiredly for a moment.

The sun was still far from coming down but upon the red skies of the city five figures were walking towards the factory in a row, they all were wearing long brown mantles that covered their bodies, one of them, in particular, was quite short and a had a huge brown gallon hat and a black scarf covering their face.

"I can smell them, two devils, guess someone came first, let's get to it, boys. We are the ones who are getting their head for some good bucks and making it as legends of the city. Let's finish this before sundown."
