Chapter 84:
Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.
The night was falling on the busy streets of the market district, but now that midnight has passed even these streets were falling into silence. But tonight the odd jobs agency was still working, their boss was sitting on top of a crate looking below at Lee putting the last container into storage.
"They sure kept pilling up more work, they better pay us extra for the effort." Lee closed the store groaning from the tiredness at this point the three of them would be expended except for Heng, as expected of a devil she just jumped from the container looking around her. Laura came back with an envelope in hand.
"They just gave me the money and left, not even a goodbye." She passed the envelope to Heng, who looked at the money inside it.
"Is a lot more than they said, guess the extra time was added....still, all I'm see here is old furniture." Heng closed the envelope and put it in her pocket, the three of them reunited under a streetlight without a soul around.
"You look, anxious boss, something is amiss?" Mr.Lee asked her as she crossed her hands.
"Could be, this place is very far off and is a quiet night, maybe they just give us this job to drag us here." Laura and Lee looked around them, there was no trace of a single other worker, but even so, the markets weren't that far away.
"Forget it, let's just go home, the faster we get to the office, the faster we can look into being paid." She put her hands in her pocket and walked forward, Laura snored as she followed her and Lee walked behind them as well taking a small look behind their backs.
Away from them behind a container, a person hid from view.
"Man I thought they were going to see me for a moment." A pair of twin brothers hid behind the container with rifles in their arms to the opposite side of them an old man wearing the same black suit hid as well.
"I feel kind of bad all of us getting ready to ambush two women and some dude, I expected a bigger job for our first time in the city," Jack told his brother Hunt as he nodded, even so, they never lowered their guns.
"Oh dear I can't get confident today since Mr.Cao told me to not use any explosives, I feel a bit out of water." The old man replied holding his rifle.
"Can't blame the boss Mr.Sanchez your bomb will get the police to us right away." Besides is just three targets, like taking candy from a baby. Jack laughed, his brother hit him on the back of the neck to make him shut up."
"Anyway the ladies should be in position two, the captain will wait for an opening before moving." The three remained silent as they noticed that the members of the odd jobs office suddenly stopped.
"We are surrounded." Heng stopped first and the other two waited in silence.
"Three people behind us, two to the right and one more to the north...I can feel it, the devil within me can feel it...This is so not worth the money we got paid for." Mr. Lee reached his hand to his handgun and Laura also opened her jacket to reach for a small white gun.
"Will split and then reunite inside the warehouse, is too dangerous to be on the open." The three looked at each other as Heng took out her hands from her pockets.
"Such a drag...whatever happens let's make sure we all get back home." Heng closed her fist. Laura and Lee nodded and they both ran, with Lee going to the back and Laura to the right side. Heng stared at the darkness in front of her.
"I knew it...it reeks of a devil." Heng ran forward into the darkness.
"Damn it the man is coming this way." Seeing that one of their targets was sprinting straight at them, Hunt came out of cover and aimed with his rifle at Lee. Lee pulled his hand from the holster and ducked to the side, the two of them shot at once and Hunt received a gunshot in his shoulder, Lee slipped from their side by crouching to the side of some container.
"You got guts hitting my bro here ya heard!" Hunt switched places with his brother and ran with his gun, Sanches walked back to go to the other side of the containers to trap the man between them. Sanchez turned to the side with his rifle and was suddenly tackled to the ground. Lee put his head against the ground with his foot and pointed back his gun at Jack as they stared at each other in silence.
"Damn...the captain is gonna kill us." Hunt sighed as he kept his rifle up, the two parties now on a standoff.
"Whoever you are, I will not forgive you for threatening the boss." Lee reloaded the chamber on his gun remaining with the sharp calmness of a professional.
Another shot rang out on the night.
"Watch it Janice" At the other end a tall woman grabbed her fellow hunter by the arm and dragged her back into cover as a gunshot rang in the night. The blond woman had pulled two hand guns and opened fire without hesitation against the hunters. The two women hunters Janice and Olaga had to take cover
"Damn, I thought we only had to look out for their boss but her little ducklings have a bite." Olga and Janice hid behind a crate as another shot rang out, Janice recharged her rifle letting out a long breath.
"We've dealt with worse, one lone woman ain't nothing, I think."
"Hahaha, alright let's split, she can't pin us both at once." Without waiting for Olga ran off to the right and barely kept up Janice did the same, Laura saw them split, and rather than shot she ran to the side to take cover behind a warehouse barely evading a gunshot. Olga raised from behind a crate and immediately hide back from another shot, Janice couldn't even raise before being shot.
"Bloody hell she is good with those two guns, but she must already know she can't win." Olga grinned there was no surpassing the difference in numbers, not for a mere human at least.
"Girly you better hope our boss finishes the hunt before we get you." Olga raised her rifle and shot, Janice did as well and Laura had no choice but to retreat for cover.
Meanwhile, Fong Heng hear the sound of gunfire behind her, but she kept running forward. Whatever was happening behind, she knew the biggest danger was just in front of her waiting in the darkness, she stood still seeing a figure dressed in black with long black hair. As soon as she stopped the figure moved to raise both hands with glittering blades, he dashed under the light of a light post.
Cao had no time to lose he immediately cut the distance and slashed toward her neck. Heng ducked and lifted her open palm towards his chin hitting him with enough force to make him stumble as she jumped back from his other blade.
"So a devil huh, who sent ya...are you a Triad grunt?" Heng closed her fist getting into a fighting stance.
"None at all, I have nothing to do with the likes of them, all you need to know is that im here to hunt you."His voice was serene and indifferent.
"I guess is true what they say, the Karma of a devil never leaves you, I have to stop you here I can feel it... the weight of death on you assassin." Cao rushed with his blades, and she stood her ground, they couldn't see each other clearly under the night as they moved outside of the reach of the lamplight. Heng Grabbed one of his hands twistings and quickly kicked him on the stomach, but he didn't flinch and swung his other blade, she had no choice but to block it with his arm letting the blade reach the bone.
"Oof thinking again, any chance we can deal with this peacefully Mr.Assasin?"
"Hardly, you are completely unarmed so I will set the terms here." He said with that eerie calmness, she still couldn't see his face in the darkness, but when she heard another gunshot coming from the distance she knew there was no time to hesitate.
"Right all I got are my fist...Well, they have carried me all the way here." She moved to his left and punched him with an open pal on his right ear. He lost his composure again, but rather than strike she ran off out of his reach and towards the side of the warehouse, Cao pursued her.
"Useless without a weapon there is no way you can even harm me." He slashed with both blades as she was leaning against a barrel. She moved and his blade broke into the create releasing flour into the floor, she quickly grabbed the flour with her glove and threw it to his face. Cao coughed as the flour got into his eyes and she kicked his arm making him let go of his sword in his confusion, she gave him a straight punch to his chest to throw him back.
"I don't know who sent you here, but I have a feeling you are underestimating me." Heng grabbed the sword stuck in the barrel and pointed at him, as Cao finally took the flour from his eyes.
"What a nasty trick."
"You do whatever you need that is how one makes it around here, gotta say that is a very elegant sword you got, only the Triada would have something like, do you not know I had a deal with your bosses? There is no point in fighting."
"Not your choice madame." He rushed again with his remaining blade.
"we will see then." Heng lifted her cap and pulled a grenade from it, it was a smoke bomb. Cao closed his eyes as it went off and he could hear her move and ran away. That was not the only smoke grenade to go off.
When they heard the sound. Mr. Lee dropped a smoke guard to the side of his hostage and Laura did as well in the middle of the two hunters pointing at her, the sound of the grenade going off rumbled.
Cao had lost her from his sight, but he couldn't stop now.
"If I let her escape to the crowds, the hunt is over...I suppose even a harmless rat can bite back.''
Cao fixed his monocle and ran looking to reunite with his teammates, the other hunters all came out of hiding as well with the twins carrying the old man with them.
"We must pursue them, anyone saw their retreat."
"I think the blond lady ran into the warehouse."
"I see, they will try to make it past the back door there, Jack retreat with Mr. Sanches he is not in a condition to fight anymore, the rest of you follow me, we will not let them leave that warehouse alive." With a nod, everyone but Jack and the old man at his shoulder ran towards the warehouse with Cao at the head.
