Chapter 97:

Devils Diablesa and Basil V

Devil hunting chronicles of the impossible city.

There was a screech upon the stage, the final swan song of a devil resonating with the final screams of a vendetta. The disabled statue floated above the stage as its white form began to erupt in green intense flames leaving all grace behind, below her the star of the café had ended her song and only one last will was left behind, the devil had but one wish, to crush and slaughter the woman that let the curtains fall upon their duet.

Aurora passed out and Ami immediately took over her broken body the unbearable pain was something she could only take for so long, her eye saw the Diablesa strike with its burning massive claws all she could do was take the impact while jumping back, her demonic arm took the strike but her shoulder broke and she spun in the air falling from the stage and breaking into a table below. The devil screamed in lament again as it flew in the air towards her, flames spreading ever faster.

Ami was snapping her limbs but she was finding it impossible to get on her feet again, her legs were still healing, and her eye could see the attack coming it was slow, simple, and desperate, and yet thought she knew how to evade it with ease her body no longer could, there was not enough time. Still, Ami couldn't help but smile.

''Just like I remembered this city...is always so fun." She stared at the flaming devil floating above her, but she felt her body be raised from the ground.

''Captain I got you.'' She knew that voice, he was once one of her soldiers a man simply known as Rock. As the tallest and strongest man on the hunting squad, he threw his machine gun and lifted his body with ease among the rubble, he stared at the flaming devil with a cold gaze and ran to barely get away from its reach. The devil followed them but it was shot in the head, the flash man with the mocap hair Boar opened fire on its head with a shotgun, even as thick a skin as it had the gunfire still made the devil recoil.

It let a final sream, sounding almost human-like as the flames finished engulfing it and it turned into mere dust and banished from the earthly world. Boar and Rock ducked behind a table as there was still gunfire all over the café.

"Hehe, not bad you guys..."

"Nothing to be happy about Captain, we got a message from outside, the police are already surrounding the building they are about to enter at any moment," Rock said as he kept his head down to look her straight in the eye.

"Let them come I still have plenty of fight with me!" The Boar said, he seemed to be bleeding from his ear but no one said anything about it.

"We did our best, we are retreating immediately, the rest is up to Abram." Rock nodded at her word and raised a flaregun, the café was covered by a red light as it flew upwards. All the hunters immediately saw the red light and remembered their orders.

"Oof im glad we can bail now, but I have a feeling things are going to get hairy...hey what happened to that girl, Aisha."Near the open secret entrance below the café the only two remaining hunters were still taking cover at the entrance they looked at each other as they realized they were missing one person.

"She probably went inside to look for her brother."

"Do we look for her?"

"Nos if she screws up that's on her for not staying on her post, let's get the hell out of here before the cops come knocking." The two of them split in different directions leaving the dark entrance unprotected whatever would happen down there was not for them to know.

"You believe this trick will get you anything? You have already lost assassin, now you are within the innards of the devil my garden, my garden." Ocassio stood in the middle of a living hell of nature, endless roots moving constantly creating the floors and walls, they were now within the devil tree and every stretch of it hunted for prey, Ocassio raised his sword as he looked at a dense mist that was surrounding him, they were both trapped there, both men knowing only one of them will be able to escape.

"Assasin, if you were sent by the families, know that even if I die, this district will not end on their hands...if you were sent by the government I assure you, the will of the people will not end with me, know that the inner district will remain standing. " Ocassio breathed slowly as he looked at the mist surrounding him, he only needed to pin him down a moment and the devil tree would do the rest.

Ocassio awaited, letting not one drop of sweat fall from his forehead. The mist stirred and then broke apart behind him as Abram lunged with his knife to hit his heart from the back. Abram was stopped as his arms were grabbed by vines from above, he tried to free himself but the strength of the vines was overwhelming.

"Naive." Ocassio spun on his heel and pierced Abrams's skin with his blade almost reaching his neck but he stopped the tip of the blade by letting him cut into his arm instead. Abram kicked him back to little avail as the vines moved his hands upwards and he had to use all of his strength to stop them from raising him into the air.

"You are just a sacrificial lamb assassin, meant to be sacrificed in vain, our lives don't have the same weight!" Abraham was freed from the vines as a skeletal hand flew from the myst and cut the vines that were flying towards him, but he was nonetheless overwhelmed as the ground and the walls within the tree all aimed towards him. Abram cut them with his knife as the spectral bride took form above him raging with her arms in every direction to rip each vine to shred but all they could achieve was to survive a little longer.

"Try your luck then, I'll show you, and to this city I will not retreat!" Ocassio charged forward with his blade, the bride flew forward sensing the danger but Vine came from behind the boss of the café and grabbed her arms, the man cut the distance reaching Abram to pierce his heart, he moved his knife to stop the tip of the blade and grabbed it with his naked hand.

"Shut up, I saw your damn garden! People like you just feed in corpses, you have nothing without your devil." Abram moved the blade with his arm and tried to stab Ocassio in the head, but he backed in time only having his eye cut, his face started to drip blood but his serious expression didn't flinch.

"Assasin, I don't know who sent you here, but im sure they will make you build a garden of corpses of your own, blood is the coin of life in this city and you and your masters are no different!" Ocassio threw the blade of his sword as more vines came from below him and moved like spikes towards Abram, the bride went through him making Abram feel a cold chill as he jumped back into the mist, but the vines like spikes impaled the devil more and more, it screamed with a human-like voice as if in genuine anguish.

"I got you, you are alone now assassin, but im a reasonable man, if you are willing we can still make an arrangement, if you are spouting such trite you can't be a man from the families that is obvious." Abram had banished again into the mist leaving the bride to struggle, it was a creature with no blood so it couldn't die, but the vines were locking it in place. Ocassio walked around it, the vines on the floor following his steps like snakes.

"Even if you made a contract, we can make an arrangement, I will become the most powerful man in this district, unless a new family is born this city will never change. I will welcome anyone desperate for change, that is if you are more than a mindless beast." He received no answer from the dense mist, he knew the assassin would try to finish him off in a single move it was the only hope he had now.

"Assasin I won't deny my sins, but I decided to taint my hands with blood of my own will, can you claim the same, or are you merely a dog blindly obeying its master? There is no way...I can't die to such a man" He gritted his teeth and waited even if he couldn't see the enemies the vines could sense him.

"Basil will protect me, as long as this tree stands so will the Ocassio family, so do your worst!" The vines moved behind him again and he turned around piercing a suit jacket that had been thrown towards him furiously the vines pierced the coat automatically, but Ocassio knew it was a distraction, he turned around and was stabbed in the chest, Abram without his coat and cap looked at him with a tired expression without saying a word, once the knife reached his target the vines began to twitch and go limp. Ocassio tried to grab his shoulder and move him away but his strength was failing him, even a devil could not regenerate a heart with ease.

"We will see what kind of garden...the corpses you pile up made... assassin."Ocassio coughed blood as he fell to the ground, as he did the vines around Abram that reached for him began to burn with a green fire, everything was starting to burn with Abram still inside of the devil tree.

Abram tried to block his mouth from the smoke as he headed towards the borders of the three to stab it with his knife, but even then, the wood was too ticking, and touching the tree was burning his hands as well, but the bride floated slowly behind him and began to break into the tree, even so, the skeletal figure was broken and missing an arm but it still tried to breach a way out.

They could only keep trying to break through the tree before it burned down, as the wood was cut Abrams's breathing got harder, he would soon pass out, if he couldn't break free so he cut the vines over and over as the fire grew.

As his vision grew dimmer and finally collapsed.
