Chapter 2:

The Daily Lives of the Student Council(s)

Juilet and her Romeo

The daily life of Ryuo as the student council president of Monta was filled with the standard fare of too much paperwork and dealing with planning all the important upcoming events. Fortunately he was accompanied by the other members, who were more than ready to aid him whenever he asked.

“And that should be the last signature they’ll need today.” He said, handing a piece of paper to Riyone. “What’s next for our agenda today?” Instead of taking this minor accomplishment as a reason for a break, he was more than ready to continue working.

“Lunch is about to begin, so now would be a good time to discuss matters with the prefects on maintaining order.”

“Finally.” Meguru, who had been sitting on the couch alongside Benzou laid onto his back. “I’m starving. How you sure you really don’t want to take a break? We’ve been at it all morning.”

“We’re behind as it is, but all of you are relieved. I think I can handle a simple conversation on my own.”

“If you’re working, I’m working.” Benzou stood up, tipping Meguru, who had his legs rested on his, off the couch. “The others can grab some lunch. When we’re done, we’ll just rotate.”

“A little warning would’ve been nice…” Meguru quietly whined as he rubbed his bottom from the little tumble he suffered.

The two boys headed to the office of the prefects, who were the proud owners of one of the biggest rooms in the entire school. After all, their duties of maintaining the peace weren’t confined to only the school of Monta. When they entered, every student in the room immediately stood up at attention to Ryuo.

“We’re not soldiers.” He spoke to them, annoyed at this special treatment. When no one appeared to want to sit down, he sighed before reluctantly giving the command. “At ease.”

“We’re here to get the latest report on what’s going on in public. I hope there hasn’t been any engagements between us and those at Capa.” Benzou was the one who took charge and commanded the conversation. Despite only being the secretary of the council, he could tell his leader had been straining himself lately.

“We caught a couple committing the act of graffiti, but fortunately nothing major.”

“Tsk, vandals.” Ryuo shook his head in disappointment. “They may call it art, but all they’re doing is making a mess for others to clean up.” The pair finished up their conversation with the prefects, which went by smoothly as it always did.

Ryuo wasn’t the only one performing his duties. Jurie also had her own tasks to perform as she went throughout the day. Ones where she had the full support of her student council.

“What do you guys think of this poster?” She held up her latest work to the others, which earned her the usual praise.

“Ooh, it’s real cute.” Sumiwa got up close to the paper, enjoying the numerous colors used. “Nice job pres, that should be enough posters for the upcoming carnival.”

“It’s not for another month. I can’t believe you wanted to already get this all done today.” Tenmaro complained as he tried to shake off the stickers he wanted on his poster off his fingers. Along with the paint over his face, it appeared as though he put more work on himself, rather than the paper.

“Ah you know how the pres is.” Niiya defended the decision. “Work hard, play hard, right?”

“Well, I certainly don’t mind the working hard part as long as Jurie promises to be play hard with me.” He gave a wink as the boy made his hundredth attempt of asking her out on a date. The other three simply laughed him off after becoming used to his antics.

“Anyway, are we really done yet?” Sumiwa laid back out on the couch as her stomach growled. “Lunch’s already started and I’m starving!”

“Just got to get these posters to the teachers.” Said Tenmaro. “How about you two-” As he was about to make a suggestion, the boy found his face being pushed in as Niiya forcefully brought him down to prevent him from speaking.

“Me and Jurie can take care of that.” She spoke, saving her leader from more attempts at flirting. “You two have some lunch and we’ll catch up with you.”

“Using you mouth first would’ve been easier.” He muttered as he got up and dusted himself off. “Whatever, I should get cleaned up anyway.” Tenmaro gave up considering the circumstances and headed off for lunch. Meanwhile, the other two girls walked the opposite direction to the teacher’s office. There, they were treated to an unpleasant sight.

There were a group of girls surrounding one of the desks, murmuring to themselves in praise of their latest ‘prank’. They were gluing tacks onto the desk, laughing.

“Hey!” Jurie shouted at them, which caused them to shriek in fear before scattering like flies. She couldn’t help but sigh at their attempts to harass one of the teachers. “Niiya?”

“Yeah?”

“Handle it.” Without saying anything else, Niiya placed down her stack of posters and took off in a dead sprint to provide some of her so-called ‘discipline’ to the rowdy students.

“Oh dear.” As Jurie stepped up to the desk to survey the damage, she heard the voice of the teacher whose desk this belonged to. “I only stepped out for a moment. I should’ve figured those girls were lying to me.”

“Don’t worry Mrs. Numakura.” Jurie simply gave her one of her trademarked smiles and grabbed some towels. “We’ll clean this up together.” Capa academy wasn’t the only school that had a bullying problem. Something Ryuo knew too well.

“You know, it is your turn for a break.” He had been patrolling the halls with Meguru after skipping yet another lunch period. “I can handle this all on my own, you know.”

“I don’t feel like going to the cafeteria.” He answered as they heard some snickering inside one of the classrooms. Knowing that no one should be in them at this time, he quickly opened the door to see a group of boys messing with the blackboard, drawing unflattering images of the homeroom teacher this classroom belonged to.

Upon seeing a pair of members of the student council, they immediately dropped what they were doing and rushed out the other doorway. Ryuo sighed at their futile attempt. “Meguru?”

“Yes?”

“Handle it.” His subordinate, whose normal role was only that of the school’s treasurer, gave him a salute. Then he rushed down the hall after the boys with a notepad in hand.

“I suppose it’s good that you were patrolling the halls here.” He heard the voice of the homeroom teacher, who had came back with some important papers. “But you really ought to take care of yourself too.”

“I’ll help you take care of the mess.” Ryuo ignored the statement, instead offering his aid by standing up straight to the teacher. “I’m not really hungry and this doesn’t look like it’ll take a long time. Beside, we should make sure it’s taken care of before classes resume so no one sees such vulgar images.”

“Thank you so much.” His teacher bowed down. “If you’re offering, I can’t help but accept. Thouse let’s not make this a habit.”

“Let’s not.” He said as the teacher walked past him into the classroom. “But we both know that’s harder than it sound, Mr. Numakura.”
