The Beginning

“Yuu, do you want to have a sparring session with me? I still can't accept my lose last week,” said my friend, Ryan.

“But it's already night. Maybe next time. Look, we will be preparing for Operation Monster tomorrow. We need to have a nice sleep. I heard that this time will be a little more difficult than before,” I tried to explain to Ryan.

“I forgot about that! Yes! I heard that we will be exploring ‘that island’ right? But why do we call this operation Operation Monster? Will there be a monster like before on that island?” ask Ryan.

I wonder if we can pull off the operation tomorrow. There Is just one year left before this world ends but I don’t want to leave this world too early. I still remember when the scientist announced that this world would end seven years ago. Although they don't explain thoroughly how this world will end, there are signs that slowly show up such as sea level suddenly rising up that almost cover up some of the countries. At countries that mostly don’t have winter season, there have been reports that snowstorms start to come to the countries. Since then, scientists have built a spaceship for people around the world. But there are exceptions. People who are 20 years old and below and people who are 50 years and above will be prioritised first. That’s how the process was done until today. Now, almost no people live on this planet other than us. What I mean to us is Last EArth People Squad or LEAPS. It sounds lame but that is our name. This team is made up of a scientist team and a fighter team. Scientist team will do research about the situation of earth every day for their experiment. Also, they will prepare our combat machine for the fighter team. The most important task for them is trying to prevent this earth from ending. There is a professor that leads the scientist team and the fighter team. His name is Professor Samson. Since other scientist announcing the world’s end before, he never stop make the research about this phenomena as he cant believe the fact this world will gone. That's why he created this squad. By the way, the fighter team’s purpose is fighting the monster that suddenly appeared in this world three years ago and exploring the hidden places that can help the scientist team to do research.. How the monster suddenly exists, the scientists including Professor Samson can't find the answer. How absurd this world has been?

Next day, the members of the fighter team were briefed by a scientist who is in charge of this operation.

“As you may know, this operation is very important. After doing some research, we learned that this place has a very important key. Although we can't confirm yet, we believe that we can find the answer why this earth will end and why the monster suddenly appeared before.”

“Can I ask a question?” ask my fellow member, Mia.

“What is it, Mia?”

“How is our combat machine? Is it already modified?”

“Yes. For your information, this combat machine has been equipped with a new blade and shooter. The shooter has the power to destroy the whole mountain. So, make sure to control its power and avoid using it against other members, ” explained the scientist.

“As we have been brief earlier, all of you should never underestimate this operation. We never know what will happen to us. Make sure to follow me closely from back.”

Captain Adam advised us to be careful during our operation later.

“How can you confirm that following you closely from behind can assure our safety? You just move forward while we are protecting your back from those monsters. That's how Mickey died in last month’s operation, ”said Stacy, one of the fighter team.

“That's his own fault that he died. He should be aware of his own surroundings. Why do I need to assure his own safety? The important thing is we achieve our objective,” said Captain Adam trying to explain his own vision.

“How dare you, bastard?!”

Stacy can no longer hold her own anger. Fortunately, Cherry quickly pulled Stacy’s hand from slapping Captain Adam’s face.

“Calm down, Stacy!”

“Let me go, Cherry! I can't forgive him for neglecting Mickey before!”

“Cherry is right. You should calm down, Stacy. We need to be mentally focused before this operation starts later,” I try to cool down the situation.

After that, Stacy goes somewhere else, accompanied by Cherry.

Then, Ryan and DJ finally showed their faces. They seem to have gone to see the new equipped combat machine earlier.

Right after that, we can hear the siren going off. It is a signal for the fighter team to prepare for the operation right now. I hope that this time will be a successful operation.

“Will everything be alright?” said Cherry.

“Are you afraid? You can ask Captain Adam if you don't want to join this operation. Although he may not allow it.”

“No! It's just I feel this time will be different and I don't know why,” explained Cherry.

“Maybe you are thinking too much. Just be careful and believe other members that we will be protecting each other,” I try to give encouragement to her.

“Okay! Thank you, Yuu! I finally get back on my feet! Right, we will go back together as a whole team without any loss,” Cherry said happily.

Finally, she show her smile. That's what makes me fall for her. I also don't want to lose this fight! I will win and confess to her!
