Chapter 5:
Fight for you
Rox leads me up to a cliff side so we can watch the fire and dancing from a distance. The sun has almost completely set. The darkness slowly envelopes everything. I never went to this lively of festivities before so I'm a little sad we are aways away.
"You have your own place here right?" I ask looking over the village.
"Yea it's in the group of little houses over there. It's away from the main trail and the center of the village." He points off to our left to a group of small houses on the outskirt of the village.
"Let me guess there is a reason your not taking me there. Kinda like you letting me take the credit for your aunt breaking into my house, washing dishes and eating my food." I raise an eye brow to him.
"Yea, you remember the guys asking about fishing earlier?" Rox asks and I nod. "Well they are my best friends here and they live over there too. And I've kinda kept you a secret from them outside of I'm seeing someone from Frog Creek."
"So now they are extra curious?" I ask.
"Yea. I fear them corning us there and them scaring you. They are a little on the rougher side." Rox's concerned face is the sweetest face.
"Alright but one day I will have to meet them. Might as well be today." I lean against his shoulder.
"You can meet them but not over there or there." He points to the houses then the fire.
"Why's that?" I look up at him and he looks back down at me.
"There's too much going on over there. If we go to my place, they will find a way to barricade us into my house."
"Why?" I'm concerned and curious.
He looks away and mumbles. "They won't let us out til we answer... personal questions."
"What? Really?" I'm a little shocked, they don't sound like nice friends.
"Yea and you told me you wanted to wait til marriage. So instead of having everyone badgering us on the topic I would rather avoid it."
"Thank you Rox." I say placing my hand on his cheek to turn his face and give him a kiss.
He kisses back. I move my hand to the nape of his neck and accidentally brush his ear along the way. He inhales quickly and then leans me back against the rocky ground. His kisses were more passionate.
"Rox?" I say between kisses. He replies with a quiet hmm while kissing. I break away with my face fully flushed. "A-aren't... isn't this a bit..?"
"I-i'm sorry." Rox sits straight up giving me space. He gazes down apologetically. "When your hand brushed my ear, it felt... really good."
"Well, if no one can see us." I say quietly sitting up beside him. "I won't mind kissing a little more. No one's ever kissed me like that." I bring my hand up to my lips remembeing his touch. My face is still flushed.
"I fear I may loose control though." He tips his head down and raises his hand toward my neck.
Snickering is heard from a bush behind us. Rox sighs while closing his eyes and taps his forehead to mine.
"I guess it's time for you to meet my friends." He says just loud enough for the guys in the bush to hear.
I thought my face was flushed before but now it's from embarrassment. They were watching us?! For how long? Do I look alright? I start smoothing my hair down. Two guys pop out of the bush. Both pretty similar with brownish green skin, red eyes and brown hair.
"I see you two were having fun." Says Rox looking over his shoulder.
"Not as much as you!" Says one and they laugh.
"Wait, where is Moss?" Asks Rox.
"Oh he took off a bit ago. Probably down at the fire by now." One said.
"Uh huh. Well meet Sophia, touch her and I will kill you." He gets up and helps me up. "These two idiots are my friends Gob and Joshua."
"It's nice to meet you." I smile to them.
"Well now we know why he has been hiding you." Joshua whistles. They shift into a larger form walking toward us.
"Yea?" I reply a little scared.
"You're a cutie for a human." Gob says smiling.
"And we are leaving." Rox said grabbing my hand. He leads the way down the cliff side with me in tow. Gob and Joshua follow.
"Oh come on! Bring her down to the fire and dance." Gob smiles.
"No." Rox replies flatly.
"You haven't even asked her if she wanted to dance." Joshua comments.
"Yea and how would you know that?" He eyes them down. They look anywhere but at Rox.
"Sophia you seem like a girl that enjoys dancing. Make him take you." Insists Gob avoiding eye contact with Rox still.
"Dancing does sound fun. Everyone looked like they were having a good time." I comment looking at Rox.
"Looks like she wants to go Rox." Gob laughs.
Rox takes a breath, is he upset with me? Joshua smiles slyly waiting for his response. Rox stops leading me and leans in close to whisper in my ear.
"It's a dance praying for the village to grow in numbers this coming spring." Rox says this and then avoids eye contact as he leads the way down the cliff.
"Oh." I say and the guys burst into laughter.
"Oh don't be shy! We know he can be a bit wild. No need to hide it." Gob chuckles.
"Y-yea." I just agree hoping they will drop the topic.
"Rox! Rox!" Yell Kiaha and Jeana as they pop out of no where when we reach the bottom of the cliff side.
"What is it?" Rox asks concerned.
"We can't find dad." Says Jeana.
"Did you run off from him?" He asks shortly.
"No he left us with mom and ran off." Said Jeana.
"Then we ran off from mom to find you." Said Kiaha.
"You two are old enough to know not to run off from mom." Rox is stressed.
"Let's get you back to mama Rose." I say calmly placing my hands on my knees so I'm a little more eye level with them.
"Joshua and Gob can you help me find our mom?" Rox asks his friends.
"Already on it." Says Joshua and they split from us running in different directions. Maybe they are good friends.
"Let's go to the fire!" Kiaha says trying to run towards the center of town.
"Oh no you don't!" Rox grabs Kiaha and throws her on his shoulders. "Come on Jeana."
I hold my hand out for the little girl and she takes it. We start walking around looking for their parents.
"Why is your hair blue?" Asks Kiaha.
"Well my mother's whole family has blue hair. It's really not all that special." I reply.
"Kinda like our family has yellow eyes instead of red?" Jeana asks looking up to Rox.
"Yea it's like that." He says. I've told him I'm from a noble bloodline but being I ran from home I don't want to publicize it.
"Your sword is pretty. I like the blue gem on the end. It matches your eyes and hair." Jeana comments.
"Thank you. I really like this sword too." I say looking at the sword at my side.
"So what is your girl's favorite thing to do?" I ask them.
"I like going with the neighbor when she forages in the forest." Answers Jeana.
"I bet she has lots to teach you." I reply to the sweet little smiling girl. "How about you Kiaha?"
"I spend my days wondering how to get Joshua's attention." Says Kiaha with a dreamy look.
"Not if I can help it." Rox cuts in.
"There you are!" Gob yells. "I found both of your parents. They are by the fire."
Rox's facial expression was not a happy one. Yet we still followed Gob as he led the way to the bon fire in the middle of the village. Noax is standing by the fire with a book in his hand. As if he was waiting for us he motioned us to come closer. The music had slowed and voices lowered.
"What are you doing?" Rox asks his father.
"Waiting for you. Rumor has it you two are talking of marriage and I don't know much about human marriages but I know the talking guy is always holding a book." Says the very proud goblin Noax.
I went from possibly being eaten to being married off in one night. Hold up! Marriage!?
