Chapter 4:
Eldritch Boyfriend
Carrion walked through the bustling halls of his new school, eyes scanning the architecture, the moving enchantments, and the strangely colorful posters that read things like:
"Join the Alchemy Club! Free explosions every Friday!"
"Student Council Elections: Vote for Me or Suffer."
"Lost and Found – If it's alive, please return it immediately."
Hmph. Education has changed, he mused.
In his hand, a crisp piece of parchment gleamed with bold golden letters:
"CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE ENTERED S-CLASS!"
From what he gathered, S-Class was the most prestigious class in the school—reserved for prodigies, nobility, and overpowered individuals.
Which meant that his classmates were likely to be highly dangerous.
Carrion smirked. How exciting.
Carrion arrived at a massive double door with golden engravings.
Above it, a plaque read:
"S-CLASS HOMEROOM – ONLY THE STRONGEST ENTER."
…Dramatic.
He pushed open the door and stepped inside.
Instantly, all eyes turned to him.
The room was grand, lined with floating bookshelves, arcane symbols, and seats arranged in a semi-circle. At the front stood a towering figure—a demon with crimson horns, piercing golden eyes, and a long black coat lined with silver runes.
The demon's gaze locked onto him.
"Ah, the new student."
His voice was deep, smooth, and slightly amused.
The teacher tapped his fingers together and grinned. "Welcome to S-Class. I am your homeroom teacher—Lord Vel'Zaran. But you may call me Professor Zaran."
Carrion narrowed his eyes slightly.
This demon… he was on the verge of evolution.
A High Demon, soon to become an Elite Demon.
A rare occurrence.
Carrion could tell from the way Vel'Zaran’s aura flickered, unstable but immense, as if his very existence was preparing for ascension.
Interesting.
"Take a seat, Carrion," the professor gestured toward the back. "Next to Miss Elena."
Carrion nodded and made his way to the last row near the window.
Carrion sat down and immediately noticed the girl beside him.
She had long, flowing black hair and bright violet eyes. Her uniform was crisp, and a black choker with arcane symbols rested on her neck.
Clearly, a high-ranking witch.
She turned to him, smiling slightly.
"You're new," she said.
Carrion nodded. "I am."
She extended her hand. "Elena Nightshade."
Carrion stared at the hand for a moment.
Then, he reached out and shook it.
The moment their hands touched, both of their eyes widened.
Elena's smile froze.
Carrion's iris flickered—a soft pink glow appearing for the first time in his long existence.
A revelation.
His entire species—Carrion—only ever had one mate in life. The only way to find them was through physical contact.
And at this moment, as he held her hand, his soul confirmed it.
Mate detected.
Carrion, an ancient being who had never once felt romantic attachment, was now experiencing what humans called… "love."
His eyes softened.
So this is it…?
Meanwhile—
Elena felt pure, unfiltered horror.
The moment their hands touched, a crushing pressure weighed down on her entire being.
It was not magical, nor physical—it was the sheer weight of his existence.
It was as if she had just shaken hands with something out of an ancient legend.
Her heart pounded as her mind raced.
She had only ever read about beings like this in ancient scrolls.
Beings that should have been sealed away, lost to time.
Her lips trembled.
"Y-you…"
Carrion, still holding her hand, tilted his head slightly.
"Yes?"
"You…" She swallowed. "What… are you?"
Carrion simply smiled.
"My name is Carrion."
She stiffened.
Not just a name.
A species.
She had heard whispers of it before.
A race that should have never existed in this era.
And now, one of them was sitting next to her, staring at her with a soft, pink glow in his eyes.
…Oh no.
She was in danger.
The rest of the class watched in confusion.
A vampire leaned over to a werewolf. "Is it just me, or did something weird just happen?"
The werewolf squinted. "Dunno. But I swear, for a second, that guy’s eyes turned pink."
A dark elf muttered, "Pink…? Is he… in love?"
The room went silent.
Then, all at once—
"EH?!"
Vel’Zaran, watching from the front, narrowed his eyes.
He had sensed it.
That moment.
That instantaneous connection.
His lips curled into a smirk.
"...How fascinating."
Carrion, still holding Elena's hand, blinked.
"...You seem tense," he observed.
She immediately yanked her hand back.
"I'm fine," she said quickly, forcing a smile. "Just… surprised."
Carrion nodded, still gazing at her with soft fascination.
Elena, on the other hand, was internally screaming.
What do I do?! This guy is definitely not normal!
Wait—his eyes stopped glowing… was that really… love?!
No, no, no. There's no way.
She cleared her throat.
"W-well," she said, trying to regain composure. "Welcome to S-Class, Carrion. I hope you survive."
Carrion smiled.
"I will," he assured her.
After all—
He had already found a reason to stay.
