Chapter 4:
Re:Living One year Left until the end
The moment the plane’s wheels hit the runway, my heart skipped a beat.
We had landed.
Tokyo, Japan.
For years, I had dreamed of coming here. Of walking through the neon-lit streets, of seeing the cherry blossoms in full bloom, of losing myself in the very place where the stories I loved were born.
And now… I was really here.
“I made it.”
Beside me, Luffy began to stir, stretching inside his carrier before letting out a small excited bark. His little tail wagged furiously, his nose twitching as if he could already smell the change in the air.
“Hey, buddy. We’re here.”
The seatbelt sign dinged, and the plane filled with the sounds of passengers unbuckling and rustling through their belongings.
“Finally!” Ayumi groaned, stretching her arms dramatically. “That flight felt like an eternity! I can’t wait to get home and take a nap”
I laughed. “What, you didn’t enjoy spending 14 hours stuck in a plane?”
She rolled her eyes. “Oh yes, the nasty airplane food, the turbulence, and the guy behind me snoring like a chainsaw—absolute paradise.”
I chuckled,” Wow you sure love to complain. I don’t know about you but I’m pretty happy we’re here”
I was actually in Japan.
After everything—after struggling to survive, after every night spent in my car with Luffy, after years of convincing myself I would never make it—I had done it.
One of my dreams had come true.
It felt surreal.
“You okay?” Ayumi asked, tilting her head at me.
I realized I had been staring out the window, my grip on the armrest still tight.
“Yeah,” I breathed.Im just thinking about the past I guess.”
Ayumi’s teasing smirk softened. “Well, it’s time to stop overthinking, remember where you are now idiot.”
I looked down at Luffy, who was wagging his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. I unzipped his carrier slightly so he could poke his head out, and he immediately licked my hand, his excitement mirroring my own.
“Looks like someone’s happy to be here,” Ayumi laughed, scratching under Luffy’s chin.
“Of course he is,” I grinned. “We both are.”
For the first time in years, I felt genuinely happy.
First Steps Into a New World
Stepping off the plane and into Narita Airport was like stepping into another dimension.
Everything was so clean, so structured, so… efficient.
Bright signs in both Japanese and English directed travelers toward customs, baggage claim, and train stations. The automated announcements were calm and polite, guiding people along in a rhythmic flow. Unlike back home, where airports felt like chaotic, overcrowded nightmares, this place ran like clockwork.
“Ayumi, It honestly feels like everything just works here the way it’s supposed to”
“Well yeah, Japanese society is known for its efficiency, dummy everything here is about order”
Luffy sniffed the air eagerly, taking in all the new scents as we walked through the terminal. His little head swiveled from side to side, his tail wagging nonstop.
“Relax,Dude,” I chuckled. “I know you’re excited, but we’ve still got a few steps left before we can explore.”
Ayumi glanced at me. “Feeling overwhelmed yet?”
“A little,” I admitted.
“Oh, trust me, it’s only gonna get worse. Just wait until you see Tokyo Station.”
I laughed nervously. That didn’t sound reassuring.
The First Challenge: Immigration & Customs
Ayumi breezed through immigration without a problem. Meanwhile, I found myself stuck in a long line, gripping Luffy’s carrier as we inched forward.
When it was finally my turn, I stepped up to the counter, handing over my passport. The officer, a middle-aged man with a neutral expression, flipped through it before looking up at me.
“Purpose of visit?” he asked in Japanese.
I hesitated for a split second before answering, “Just visiting to see the country, maybe move here.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Do you have a work visa?”
I swallowed. “Not yet, but I plan to apply for one soon.”
The officer studied me for a moment, then glanced down at Luffy’s carrier.
“Pet paperwork?”
I quickly handed over the neatly prepared documents. Japan had strict pet regulations, and I had spent hours making sure Luffy’s paperwork was flawless. The officer scanned through them, nodded, then stamped my passport.
“Enjoy your stay.”
Step one: complete.
As I walked toward baggage claim, I glanced down at Luffy. “We did it, buddy. No turning back now.”
He barked happily in response.
Welcome to Tokyo
After collecting my suitcase, I reunited with Ayumi near the exit.
“Took you long enough,” she teased. “I was about to leave you behind.”
“Yeah, yeah. Had to make sure they didn’t throw me in immigration jail.”
“Well, now that you’re officially in Japan, how’s it feel?”
I looked around the bustling airport, then down at Luffy, who was practically vibrating with excitement.
“It feels… unreal. Like I’m in a dream.”
Ayumi grinned. “Well, dream or not, we’ve still got to get to Tokyo. And that means… the train.”
I blinked. “Wait. Isn’t this already Tokyo?”
She snorted. “No, dumbass. Narita is way outside the city. We have to take the train to get there.Man you’re pretty stupid, You should be glad you have me around”
I swallowed. “The… train?”
Ayumi’s eyes gleamed with amusement. “Oh boy. You’ve never taken a bullet train before, have you?”
“No…?”
“This is gonna be fun.”
And before I could protest, she grabbed my wrist and dragged me into the madness.
The Chaos of Tokyo’s Train System
Nothing could have prepared me for Narita’s railway terminal.
People moved in all directions like a perfectly coordinated current. No hesitation, no second-guessing—everyone knew exactly where they were going.
Meanwhile, I was completely lost.
Ayumi walked ahead with absolute confidence, while I struggled just to keep up.
“Alright, first we need to get you a Suica card. It’s a prepaid travel card for the trains.”
She led me to a vending machine and effortlessly navigated the touchscreen, purchasing one in seconds.
“Here. Just tap it at the gate, and you’re good to go.”
I hesitated, then followed her lead. As we stepped onto the platform, our train rushed in with perfect precision.
“Alright, newbie, let’s see if you can handle Tokyo’s train system.”
I took a deep breath. Here goes nothing.
Tokyo—At Last
The train ride felt like a blur.
Outside the window, the landscape transformed from open fields to towering buildings. My heart pounded faster with every passing station.
“We’re almost there,” Ayumi said, nudging me.
I nodded, staring out the window.
I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but when the train finally pulled into Tokyo Station, I felt my breath catch in my throat.
We stepped onto the platform, and I was immediately hit by a wave of sound, color, and movement.
The sheer scale of the station was mind-blowing. Neon signs flashed everywhere, announcing departures and arrivals. The energy of the city was unlike anything I had ever felt.
Luffy barked excitedly, and I bent down to pet him.
“We made it, buddy.”
Ayumi grinned. “Welcome to Tokyo, Yuuto.”
And for the first time in my life…
I felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be.
