Chapter 24:

Chapter 10

Deadly Attraction

I woke up in the morning and went straight to the mailbox. Finally it arrived. Grace told me that she had sent me something about Stiles. I opened the envelope. There was a letter.
“Few months before, Stiles had sent me this photo. He said that he liked this book and went to the place the book describes. I don't know if it can help you but I thought I should give it to you.”
There was a photo. It was Stiles sitting beside a tree. It looked like a mountain. He had a book in this hand. I wonder whether it can be a clue. Why did Stiles go there? Or is it a clue?
Maybe he knew that someone was behind him and gave us a clue. Maybe he hid something. Book. He has a book with himself. What book is it? I must find this book. Looks like the book is from Midnight Cafe bookstore.
He would have returned it back. I must check if there's something in the book. But wait. I must need a membership card to enter inside. Isn’t there any other way to go inside?
I was trying to find ways to remember something. Oliver has a card. I remember it. He showed me his card. I can take help from him. But where is he? It's Sunday so he won't be at the hospital.
I called him. He picked up the call and asked me why I was calling him. I asked where he was. He didn't answer. I heard the noise. It was like a club. He was in a club. He hung up the call.
I know where he is. He’s at the Electric Echo. It's a club near his apartment. I must go there. I quickly changed my clothes and drove there. I walked in the club. There were too many people.
Some people are dancing while some are kidding. Some are drinking while some are talking. I tried to find Oliver everywhere. I walked everywhere. Suddenly I heard his voice. He was near a corner flirting with a girl. Here I was trying to find him and there he is flirting with a girl.
“Are you cheating on my sister with this woman?” I yelled at Oliver, in a clear voice.
“What are you talking about?” Oliver asked me, confused.
“Wait. Is it true?” The girl asked him.“You know she is two weeks pregnant, right. How could you do this to her?” I yelled again.
“Are you cheating on her? You bastard?” The girl said to him, walked away.
“What the hell was that?” Oliver asked me.
“You hung up on me.” I replied back.
“So what?” He said, his eyebrows raised.
“Come on. We need to go somewhere.” I said, grabbing his hand.
“Where are we going?” He asked.
“To Midnight Bookstore. You have the membership card.” I said, opening the car door.
“But why?” He asked.
“None of your business. You aren't that useless.” I said, driving the car.
We reached the bookstore. Oliver showed the card and we went inside. I tried to find the book in the photo. It's a book named “The Last Clue”. I walked towards all the shelfs. Finally I found it.
It was too high for me. I stood on my toes to reach it. It was still too high for me. I jumped to grab it but couldn't. Then someone grabbed it so I turned to see who it was. That's when I bumped into him and some of the books fell down.
“Are you okay?” Oliver asked me, concerned for me.
“Yes.” I replied.
He handed me the book. I opened the book to see if it had something. It didn't have anything. Anyways, who will keep it for one year. Right. The place. Something can be buried there.
That's when I saw Britney. She was sitting on a couch with her friends. She was probably discussing a book. It is a weekend and she used to come here with Stiles. I walked towards her.
“What are you doing here?” she asked me.
“Right. I wanted to ask you something.” I said to her,
“Do you know this book?” I said, handing the book to her.
“Yes. It's The Last Clue. It's a famous book. But why?” she replied.
“I wanted to visit this place. Do you know where it is?” I asked her, giving her the photo of Stiles.
“Yes. It's Mystic Hollow. It's where the protagonist of the book goes to camp. And the tree you see is where he found the last clue. It's too far from here.” She said, giving the photo back.
“Why did you ask her about the photo?” Oliver asked me, moving towards the entrance.
“Nothing. We must go now.” I said.
Then I researched more on my case. I remember the police who investigated the house and said it was murder. It was Officer Daniel Couffaine. He's Luka’s older brother. So he was the one who investigated the case.
But why didn't he investigate further? Was he hiding something? Did he find something? Was he trying to save Luka? I must investigate it further.
