Chapter 30:

Chapter 12

Deadly Attraction

Now I have a few suspects. I am sure it was a murder. And Luka is surely hiding something. I must find the truth. My suspects are—
Luka Couffaine - He hesitated when I asked him if he met Stiles on 2nd May.
Daniel Couffaine - Is he trying to defend Luka.
I must try to find the truth fast. The real killer is out in the town. Oh right. I have a night shift tonight. I must go now. I drove towards the Hospital. Today I had to clear the supply room and organize it.
There were many medicines and antibiotics. I slowly checked if it was expired and threw the expired one. That's when I heard footsteps. Someone came into the supply room. Then the door got closed. I turned to see who it was. It was Oliver.
“I am here for some antibiotics.” He said, taking some antibiotics.
"Don’t mind me," I replied, flipping a page on my clipboard. He didn’t respond. A second later, I heard the door click shut. Then—silence.
Then, a sharp tug. Another. A low curse.
"You’ve got to be kidding me," Oliver muttered.
I finally glanced up. He was standing by the door, frowning as he jiggled the handle.
"What?" I asked.
He didn’t look at me. "The door’s locked."
I raised an eyebrow. "No way. Did you forget how doors work?"
Oliver shot me a glare. "It was open when I came in, genius. Now it’s not."
Sighing, I walked over. "Move." I tried the handle myself. Nothing. Another twist, a harder pull. Still nothing.
"Huh."
Oliver crossed his arms. "Yeah. ‘Huh.’ Great input."
I leaned back against the shelf. "Guess we’re stuck."
He let out an exasperated sigh. "This is your fault."
I scoffed. "Excuse me? You’re the one who waltzed in and locked us in."
"I didn’t lock anything!" He turned to me, frustrated. "Maybe if you weren’t so busy scribbling on that clipboard, you’d have noticed the door’s messed up!"
"Oh, so now I’m supposed to monitor door mechanics while checking for expired meds?" I asked, deadpan. "Should I fix the hospital plumbing next?"
Oliver groaned, rubbing his temples. "Just… great. Stuck with you."
I smirked. "I’m flattered. Didn’t know you cared so much about my company."
"I don’t," he shot back, arms crossing. "You just talk too much."
"And yet, you keep responding," I pointed out. "Almost like you enjoy it."
Oliver rolled his eyes. "Trust me, your charm doesn’t work on anyone."
I grinned. "Oh? Are you sure about that?"
"Positive."
I took a step closer. "Should I prove it? Let’s start with you."
He snorted. "Doesn’t matter. It won’t work."
Tilting my head slightly, I held his gaze. "I’ll make you fall in love with me, then."
Oliver raised an eyebrow. "You can’t do that."
I smirked. "Of course I can. Just wait."
His lips curled into a smirk of his own. "Deal.”
I moved away. I was searching if there was another way out. I opened the window. I looked outside. We were on the seventeenth floor.
“Do you think you can jump?” I muttered.
“From the seventeenth floor. No thanks. I don't want to break my bones.” Oliver said, raising his eyebrows. “To stop hearing your voice. Yes I will.”
“Just shut up and let me find a way out.” I said, pushing him away.
It was dark everywhere. The light was dim. I couldn't see anything clearly. I was walking to see what I could find when I bumped into a shelf. Some bottles fell down as I tripped over a wire and fell down.
It was alcohol. It spreaded everywhere. As I stood up. I smelled something. I walked towards Oliver and said that some alcohol fell down.
“What's that smell?” I asked him.
“Oxygen tank. I guess it is leaking.” He said.
“See there's the switch.” I said, turning it on.
That's when a spark is generated. I smelled something. It was the smell of fire. Something is burning. I walked forward as I saw some fire. The alcohol got mixed with the oxygen tank.
There's a fire. I must do something to stop it. I saw the smoke spreading everywhere as the Alarm system got activated which started making sounds. Everyone started to run away. No one saw us in the supply room.
Oliver was standing still. Like he was traumatized. He didn't move a bit. He looked scared. I yelled his name as there was fire near him. He didn't hear me. That's when I spotted a fire extinguisher and used it near Oliver.
Then a few doctors and seniors opened the door and saw the fire near us. They stopped the fire. They took Oliver and me outside. Some of the supplies were turned. Oliver was still not speaking.
There were some senior doctors in front of me. They blamed me for the fire. I was standing and hearing them blaming me. They started telling the strict policies of the hospitals.
“I don't think it is Liam’s fault.” Oliver said, stood up for me.
“What do you mean?” a doctor asked.
“I mean the light was dim. He tripped over and fell down which caused the leakage of oxygen tank and alcohol. I think you should change the lighting and be more careful with the supplies.” Oliver said.
“I think he is right.” a nurse said, taking Oliver’s side.
Everyone started taking Oliver’s side. The doctor said that he will talk about it. Oliver walked away saying that he isn't feeling well.
“Do you think Oliver will be alright?” A nurse asked others.
“Didn't he get traumatized?”
“I heard he had a similar accident.”
“What are they talking about?” I asked Dr. Gilbert.
“You don't know. Oliver had an incident. His house burned down and his parents died in that fire. He survived alone. He said that he couldn't save them.” She replied.
“I heard that's the reason he chose to get a doctor. To save lives. He still blames himself.”
I didn't know Oliver had such a past. His trauma came back and he couldn’t move away. He was so scared. He didn't even move away or talked. Still he stood up for me.
