Chapter 11:

Chapter 11 - Skeleton in a Room

The Skeleton Who Couldn't Feel, Yet Fell In Love Anyway

Tens of minutes have passed and there’s still no sight of Amara coming back.

“I wonder if she left me behind here…” I whispered, seeing as the sky started to get dark. Sitting on the ground, I leaned against the wall and gazed at the sky, the way I always do it.

I don't know where her house is since I’m pretty clueless about who Amara is supposed to be. I've never heard of anyone with that name before, and I’m sure I haven’t had a classmate named Amara before.

“I guess it’s been over 20 minutes now.” It’s safe to say that her house is far from here. If that was the case, then I understand that it would take her this long to do it.

It’s not like I could complain about it. She was already helping me a lot by doing many things. I shouldn’t think of her like that, everyone’s not the same. I convinced myself, not lumping her in with others.

—Footsteps

“…” I immediately turned silent as I heard footsteps from afar.

Is she here? I thought as I hid behind the wall. Let’s play some prank.

I slowly moved a bit closer to the edge of the wall, hiding myself as the footsteps started to get closer.

This should be enough. I thought as I took a breath and readied myself. Then, as the sound got closer, I noticed something off about it.

—Footsteps, Footsteps The sound continued, and I noticed that there was more than one noise.

Huh? Is it not Amara? I raised an eyebrow as I straightened my body. I moved a bit closer to the edge and took a peek when suddenly, two fires not from far away slowly approached me.

I frantically looked around, trying to find something where I could hide. But, it failed.

“Crap… this is not good…” I whispered. As a final move, I laid myself on the ground facing upfront, feeling the dirt in front of my face.

This is better than standing and leaning on a wall. I thought as lay on my front, like I was sleeping on the ground.

—Footsteps, Footsteps I closed my eyes, and breathed slowly bit by bit as the footsteps slowly approached.

And then—

“AH!” a guy screamed. “W-what is that!?”

“You scared me! What are you shouting about?” a girl said.

“Look at there!” the guy added. “D-don’t tell me that’s a real skeleton.”

I gulped. Hearing what he just said made me tense because he was not wrong. I remained silent, listening to both of the fire talking in back of me.

“That’s impossible.” the girl said as she approached me. “Look at it.” she continued.

“…” the guy followed and stood behind me. “What am I supposed to look at?”

“Don’t you remember that skeleton we saw last time?”

“The last time?” he paused and pondered for a while. “You mean the one in the room?”

“Yeah, that one! Doesn’t it look the same?” she said.

“Uh… I don’t think so…” he muttered.

What are they talking about? With my face still facing the dirt, I was forced to remain silent, avoiding giving them the idea that I was a living skeleton.

“Then let’s go and flip it.” she suggested.

“Eh… why would I do that?” he hesitated. “We don’t even know if it was the same skeleton. This could be a corpse or something.”

“A corpse? Hah… That’s a good joke.”

Then suddenly, my view turned around, and I found myself facing in front of the two floating fires while I was still lying on the ground.

Now… what am I supposed to do with this… I tried to breathe slowly, avoiding alerting them. I remained silent and unmoving, unsure of what I should do.

“I told you. It was the same skeleton.” she continued. “You think someone threw this here?”

“I’m not sure, maybe.” he responded, approaching closer. “What should we do about it. Bring it back?”

“Well…” she paused, pondering for a while. “I’m thinking of something fun.”

“Something fun?”

“Yes.” she said as she approached me and lifted my head. “Help me bring this to the room.”

This is bad, really really really bad. I can’t even make a scene or else it would make it hard for me to hide.

Sorry Amara! I’m going to be gone for a while. As I was readying myself, the other fire started to move.

“It’s surprisingly light.” he muttered. “I thought it was going to be heavy.”

“It’s a skeleton. Of course, it’s going to be light.” she said. “Now. Let’s do it.”

Then the world started to move as they both lifted me. The girl was lifting me in my head, while the guy was lifting both of my feet. It felt like they were holding me as if I was going to be hospitalized.

“How about this?” she said, placing me on top of the cabinet.

“I think it’s fine. It would be funny for them to see that there was a skeleton behind the door.” he commented, agreeing with her.

I don’t think it’s that funny though. I feel like it would make them scream instead of laugh. I would agree if I was not the one who acts the skeleton because this is not funny at all!!!

Stop thinking about it so seriously!!! As I screamed in my mind, the two floating fires seemed to come to a conclusion.

She grinned. “I wonder how will they react tomorrow.”

“More than you think.” he responded, looking at me. “But it would be fun to see it.”

“Surely.” she said as she floated towards the door. “See you tomorrow skeleton.”

Then the two floating fires exited the door, leaving me behind the classroom.

I sighed, jumping from the cabinet to the floor. “Finally.” I walked towards the door.

I hope they didn’t lock me he—

CLANK

This is not true…

CLANK CLANK I tried to turn the knob, but it wouldn’t budge.

“I am… locked inside…” I whispered, couldn’t believe my situation.
