Chapter 16:
Fight for you
"Not to be rude or anything but could you stop kissing my sister? Its.... eww." Chris says pulling Rox and I out of our little world we escaped to for a bit there.
"Calm down Chris. I haven't seen him in forever! I lost track of the days being out in the woods plus the three weeks in the dungeon." I defend my lustful actions.
"You were in the woods the whole time?!" Rox says concerned.
"Yea, grandpa found me and wouldn't let me enter the village til I beat him in a fight. Along with if I went home I probably would have been snagged since father, I mean Charles since he isn't my father, would have the place watched." I explained.
"You're chief?!" Rox exclaims. I hold the sword up for Rox to see.
"What do you mean father's not your father?!" Chris says the same time as Rox.
"Turns out my father is Jack. Mom and him fell in love and surprise." I smile shyly. "Oh but that's a secret only Jack, mom and I know."
"So the hoard of goblins surrounding us won't spread that?" Asks Chris.
"Ahhh shoot! Please no one speaks of my true father outside of this village." I ask the village people nicely.
"Yes cheif Sophia!" The crowd replies.
"I don't think I'm ever going to get use to that." I mumble.
"It'll take a long while for you, that's for sure." Rox says with a chuckle. He stands up then offers his hand to help me up. I gently hold onto it while I get my feet under me.
"So much to do! Oh so much!" Mama Rose starts shooing goblins from the town center. "We have the feast to prepare, wood to gather for the fire and how could I forget, I need a small group of you'll to help prepare the house. Oh dear, we need to get your washed up again. Let me get the water warmed up again."
Goblins start running everywhere most were heading for the forest, others into houses and a small group following mama Rose to a nearby house.
"Oh." Rox says his eyes following where his mom is going.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"Usually a cheif takes a partner or a volunteer to their house the night of celebration." Rox quietly says scratching the back of his head.
"So I pick you." I try being cute while side hugging him.
"There is only one place to sleep in there Sophia and I thought you wanted to wait for marriage?" He asks while resting a hand on my back.
Not sure how red my face got while I processed that information but Chris speaks up.
"Well Sophia you are in my debt again. For I your incredible brother," he pulls out a paper from his coat, "have a marriage certificate from the church in Frog Creek. AND I have been ordained." Chris has the biggest smile again.
"What?! How?!" I look at him funny.
"One of my friends asked me to marry him and his tangu girl. So while I was at the church seeing if you took refuge there, I got ordained and the certificate. Now that you're safe(ish til dad finds you) I'm free to do what I please." He explains.
I run over to him and hug him. "Thank you!" I say with tears of joy running down my cheeks.
"Eww snot." Chris tries pushing me away but its in vain, for I have locked my arms around him. I can hear Rox chuckle.
"But I would feel bad for using your friends certificate." I say straightening up and wiping my tears.
"I will just grab a new one when I drop this one off. Besides between you and me, I could give May another visit." Chris replies slyly.
"Just marry her already!" I yell at him.
"I would," Chris shrugs his shoulders, "but she says she doesn't want to be tied down in a relationship. I can't blame her, I feel the same way about traveling. Not everyone is as devoted as you are to church teachings."
"Alright fine, you do you." I throw my hands up.
"While you go figure out what you're wearing, I'm going to practice my speech for this wedding." Chris is chipper while he struts off to his horse.
"So we are finally getting married?" Rox's voice cuts in making the reality sink in deeper.
"Yup." I reply in shock of how fast that one happened.
"Good." He says then starts kissing me.
I kiss him back... This is lasting a long time. We are in public. I try breaking away but he pulls me closer. "R-rox" I finally get his name out of my mouth.
His expression looks as if he came out of a trance. He taps his forehead to mine.
"I'm sorry, I will wait til later." He whispers.
"Thank you. We should get washed up." I say.
"After tonight we will be able to help each other wash." Rox cracks a smile.
Then he chuckles watching me begin to overheat. He picks me up and takes me to where his mother is preparing to scrub me again. Rox kisses my forehead before taking off to get ready himself.
I'm left in a state of overheating the whole time I bath, describe a wedding dress to the seamstress and other minor details for the party that's happening tonight. This is fine. Lots of people fall in love with a goblin, get their title stripped/kicked out of their family, and on the same day of becoming chief, you also get married. Totally normal. Yea. I sink into the warm tub to be fully submerged hoping my mind would also be cleansed by the water. But no. I surface gasping for air. The goblins helping me are looking at me concerned. I reassure them that I was merely washing my face.
After the wedding the feast of the new chief will happen. Not sure what all goes on there but I was told I would be informed as I go. The preparations for Rox's and my wedding are complete as a short notice wedding can be. Jeana and Kiana picking some nearly dead flowers since its late fall but to help fill out the bouquet they found the prettiest colored maple leaves. The reds and yellows were still vibrant. They must have searched so hard for this. I gave them the biggest hug and asked them if they could lead the way to Rox using the other leaves they collected.
My wedding dress is a very plain white with hugging long sleeves, the top part is off the shoulders wrapping around with white rabbit fur over my bust, the mid section is also hugging til it flows into a long skirt. I'm even carrying both of my swords as part of the goblin tradition. Mama Rose brushed my hair out and braided a few strands of hair, just enough to stick little white flowers in it.
"You look gorgeous dear." Mama Rose has tears in her eyes.
"Thank you mama." I give her a big hug.
"Alright!" After stepping back, she claps her hands. "Time for some grand babies!" Says Mama Rose leading the way out of the house. She's still on that? Please be no speciality soup!
Drums begin to thump as we make our way to the platform in the village center. Jeana and Kiaha are throwing leaves leading me to Rox and Chris. Rox is dressed in I believe goblin tradition attire of brown leather armor with a white bandana over his black hair. Chris is in his adventuring clothes still since he was thrown out in nothing but a white shirt, blue jacket and blue slacks and then band from entering the house.
Rox's smile is contagious and I smile at him with my stomach in knots from excitement and nerves. He helps me onto the platform. I'm in a daze while standing infront of Rox. This is happening. I can hear Chris in the background talking and making the crowd laugh.
"Hey." Rox whispers.
"W-what?" I snap out of my trance.
"Do you want to marry me?" He asks.
"Yes! I do!" I say loudly.
"I pronounce you husband and wife!" Chris says proudly of what he has done. "You can now k-"
Rox gently holds my face and kisses me. I melt into him. So many emotions are running rampant through my body happiness and joy are the biggest but I'm also a little nervous of what's to come.
I can hear the crowd begin to celebrate in the background. Food is brought out to the platform and Rox hops off. I go to follow but he motions for me to stop.
"Goblin tradition for me to stand next to you, you will need to announce that I am your lover." He explains.
"Didn't we just do that?" I whisper back.
"For your kind yes but here you have to assert dominance. For you are above me as chief."
Rox isn't beneath me though, he is my equal, my partner. That rule is going to be the first to go.
"Alright," I whisper to him then turn to the crowd to raise my voice. "Hear me know! Rox is my lover who will stand beside me!"
The crowd cheers and Rox hops onto the platform. "That's my girl." He whispers to me.
We sit down and the feast begins. Lots of food, drinks and dancing is going on at once.
"Hey chief." Grandpa says quietly behind me, I nearly jump from my skin.
"Hi Grandpa." I say looking over at him leaning on the back of the platform sipping some tea.
"Looks like you're first order of business showed up. There is a small army not far from the village and the leader looks like that brother you got." He takes another calm sip.
