Chapter 14:
The Skeleton Who Couldn't Feel, Yet Fell In Love Anyway
After hours of nonstop sitting, the class finally ended. Most of the students already exited the room, but the three of them remained inside.
I looked at the three floating fires as they approached me. One thing is for sure, one of the fires is Amara, while the two others are still unknown to me.
“What should we do Mara?” a girl asked. “Should we bring it back?”
“I think so.” Amara said. “But it’s still early for that.”
“Right, we should wait for a while before moving.” a guy suggested.
They are the ones who brought me here yesterday! I thought, remembering their voice.
“Yeah let’s do that.” Amara said, floating away from me as she went to a chair. “Go seat first Rain.” she said.
Rain? Who’s that?
“Hm…” she muttered as she took a seat near Amara.
So her name is Rain… I thought as I glanced at the other floating fire without moving my head. I immediately noticed that both this fire and the other fire had no difference from each other. There might be, but not something I could see.
Only Amara differed from the other two, and only she had the orange fire, while the other two looked red.
“I’m still wondering what is this thing.” he muttered. My head started to move back and forth, which I believed because he was touching it. “We thought it was the same as the one in the abandoned room.” he continued.
“I thought it was a fun idea to bring it here.” Rain said.
“Well, it did work.” he said, approaching the both of them. “We got some reactions for it. But it would be great if it was Halloween today.”
“What are you guys talking about?” Amara asked, confused.
“As we said earlier, we thought it would be a fun prank to bring the skeleton here. You know, just to get some funny reactions.” Rain explained. “So both Kai and I decided to bring it here.”
“To be exact, it was your idea to begin with.” Kai said.
Rain chuckled awkwardly. “So yeah, that’s the story behind it.”
My only problem with it is that, I’m totally not a fan of that idea. It drives me crazy that I need to stay like this for hours without having to move. Yes, I don’t feel anything, but it doesn’t mean I can stay still for hours without doing anything! I complained, tired of sitting and not moving for hours straight.
“I think… I’m more worried to see that there’s a skeleton behind the school’s wall for some reason. If I were to see one, I would immediately walk away.” Amara said.
“You’re right.” Rain muttered.
“So who was it again who thinks that it was the same skeleton as the one in the abandoned room?” Kai reminded.
“I know, you don’t need to remind me.” Rain said, annoyed.
Kai laughed. “But, I wonder where this skeleton came from? It’s not normal to find something like it, right?”
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s normal at all.” Amara agreed. “It’s best to bring it back where you both found it.”
“Got it.” Rain muttered. “I’ll guess we should wait for half an hour then?” she suggested.
“That would be probably the right time. But, I don’t know when the teachers go out. It would be bad if someone found us with the skeleton. Let’s make sure no one is around the campus before doing it.” Amara said.
“Okay.” the two agreed.
I wonder if both of them are Amara’s friends. I guess it would make sense since they knew each other. If they manage to bring me back to the wall, I would be able to go back to hiding, and… I would be able to talk to Amara again.
━━━►◄━━━
Time has passed, and now they are lifting me.
“It would make it hard if both of you do that.” Amara said. “Isn’t it light?”
“I guess you could say that.” Kai said.
“Then can I bring it?” Amara suggested.
I don’t think I’m that light, Amara. I thought as the two others think whether to let Amara do what she wanted.
“Don’t overthink it.” Amara said, approaching me.
“Wa-wait!” Rain said, stopping Amara.
Then suddenly I felt a warmth on my arms as she lifted me, lifting me to her back while my hands are on front. The orange fire was close, and it felt like I was hugging a fire.
This is a piggyback ride, isn’t it?
Then with one final adjustment, she lifted me at my legs, where I could feel a light warmth on them.
Amara is really warm… I thought. I smiled, still feeling the warmth of the orange fire. Compared to the warmth I experienced last time, I could feel a little bit warmer now that I am close to her.
“Hold on to me tightly.” Amara said.
“Huh? Who are you talking about Mara?” Rain asked.
Amara chuckled. “The skeleton obviously.”
“Oh…” Rain muttered. “I’m not sure if the skeleton would be able to do that.”
Amara then piggybacked me, while both Rain and Kai followed us behind. It didn’t take too long before we exited the school’s premises and reached the wall.
“Is it here?” Amara asked.
“Yeah, we found it here.” Rain answered. “It is lying in front of the ground.”
“Okay…” Amara muttered, bringing me to the ground with my face in front. “Like this?”
“Yeah.” Rain said. “That’s how we found it.”
Now I can't see anything again…
“Then that should be all then. It’s best if we leave it here first, there might be someone who owns this skeleton.” Amara said.
“What does that even mean Mara?” Rain asked.
“I don’t know either.” she chuckled. “But it’s probably the best for us to leave it here. We don’t want to get cursed.” Amara continued.
I don’t have a curse though… I answered in my thoughts.
“Phew…” Rain sighed in relief.
“Acting like it’s not your fault.” Kai said.
“You don’t need to say that!”
“Aw, aw aw…. Stop pinching my cheeks!!!” Kai shouted.
“That’s your punishment.” Rain said.
Amara chuckled softly. “You guys really do like each other.”
“I wonder about that.” Kai answered.
“What do you mean you wonder!?” Rain exclaimed.
“STOP, STOP, STOP!!!” Kai screamed. “It hurts Rain…”
“Sorry…” Rain whispered. “It’s your fault. No…” she paused. “It’s my fault.”
“I got it.” Kai said, his voice was soft. “It’s all done. You don’t need to worry about it. But...”
"Aw aw AW!!!" Rain shouted. "STOP!!!"
"That's my payback." Kai said.
"Ouch..." Rain whispered.
“Should we go then?” Amara suggested, cutting them short. “Let’s see if the skeleton will still be here tomorrow.”
“That would be scary if the skeleton is nowhere to be found tomorrow.” Kai said.
“Oh… you’re right.” Amara answered.
After they brought me back here, they left me behind lying on the ground.
