Chapter 3:
Shotster
"Hahaha! Who do you think we are?"
Confused by the laughter and not being sure who they were, I remained silent.
"We are here with good intentions, don't worry."
These words made me lower my guard, in fact one of the two men rushed towards me and hit me in the neck with a karate chop making me pass out.
When I woke up I was chained to a chair, sitting at a table with other people, who judging by the clothing, some were important people, while others were normal people like me but without the chains.
The room I was in was dark, lit only by a few candles hanging on the wall, no windows and a double wooden door painted black with brass knobs, an elegant and mysterious room, but also disturbing.
"Welcome Mr. Kurosawa Issei."
"What do you want from me you rude bastards?"
"Uh, what a vocabulary."
"Hmpf."
"You took down a C2 monster."
"What's a C2 monster?! What are these monsters?! What do you want from me?!"
"You see, the revolver she has is not a normal weapon."
"Huh?"
"It's a magical weapon that can kill these monsters."
"Can you answer my damn questions?!"
"Oh, sure, sorry."
"Thank you."
"These monsters, well, we don't know where they come from or what they want."
"..."
"We've been observing her for some time and once we were certain we came to get you. We need you here at SMA."
"Because you need me, I'm a normal person."
"That's partly true. Your strength of spirit, that's your specialty that makes you different from the others, the reason why we want you."
"But what does that mean..."
At that moment, there were sounds of metal being bent and concrete columns crumbling. In the blink of an eye, a huge monster entered the room, breaking through the walls like a finger penetrating warm, soft bread.
“Alarm! Monster of class F3 or higher!”
One of the fragments of the structure hit me and I passed out.
Every now and then I came to consciousness and saw people with guns shooting luminous bullets just like I did that time in the restaurant.
“Take the guest to the vaults!”
They took me and took me to another room with very thick walls, I can’t even determine how thick they were. I was sure that if I was lying down, I could cover the entire distance of the thickness of the wall.
I have no idea how much time had passed but it doesn’t matter, when I woke up I was sitting in that office chair again but without the chains.
“Here again?!”
The room was still open revealing the immensity of the complex I was in, light was passing slightly from the point where the monster had entered.
“Please excuse the inconvenience.”
The one who spoke was at the head of the table and seemed to be the boss.
“No problem!”
I said sarcastically getting up from the chair resting my hands on the table.
“Please calm down, we are on your side.”
“What are you saying, you want to use me for some purpose of yours, you are not on my side at all.”
“We would like to help you.”
“And how, I don’t need anything!”
“We know about your living conditions and the job you do.”
“Tsk…”
“We promise to make sure you have a clean criminal record. We will also offer you a house to live in and a salary to live without problems in luxury.”
“You almost convinced me, but I don’t want anything more to do with monsters.”
“You can shoot as much as you want with whatever weapons you want. And maybe we can tell you something about your grandfather, for example we know that he has already passed away.”
“Huh?! What do you bastards know?!”
“We know a lot about everyone, if you need it we can offer you all the information you want.”
“So I’ll have my own house, a lot of money, and the ability to shoot whatever guns I want to shoot at my own pace.”
“That’s right, Mr. Kurosawa.”
“Plus, knowing something about my grandfather that I don’t know… All right, I’m in. I’m going to be a part of this thing.”
“It’s called the SMA, the Secret MonsterKilling Agency.”
For the second time, my life had changed completely.
“Before we leave you, we still have a couple of things to tell you.”
“Go ahead and tell me.”
“I want to tell you first that in the next few days, we’ll be coming to your house at 7:00 to take you to our Shotster school to train you in fighting monsters. Now, I want to introduce you to the best Shotsters we have.”
The men who weren’t in black coats stood up, all of them wearing very flashy suits painted in every color.
“ni ni ni ni nice to meet you!”
He didn't stammer, but hummed in a hoarse voice.
His bizarre movements made the various metal pieces he was wearing resonate.
On his back he had two large assault rifles with blades on the barrel.
He was a dark-skinned man with a green afro.
On his belt he had grenades and two golden pistols. He had brown pants with more pistols attached to the sides, and finally he had boots full of spikes.
"Hey new buddy."
Another man greeted me, but this one was calmer than the other.
He was dressed as a cowboy with two revolvers in his belt and a machine gun on his back. On his body he had a band of ammunition for the machine gun and the revolvers, and finally on his legs he had a saber.
"Ho ho ho, let's see what we have here."
A girl strode towards me, she seemed the most normal in clothing, but I'm sure no one is normal in mind.
She had no weapons with her and was wearing plain clothes, a red tracksuit with yellow stripes, even her shoes were sneakers. She looked like she had just returned from a marathon, but she wasn't sweaty.
"These three, they are our best soldiers we have. If we were to compare them to monsters, they would be class I7. Don't worry about what a class is, tomorrow when you arrive at the training camp we will explain everything."
I was escorted home, without my revolver but with a key, which I will use to access my locker, containing the equipment.
By now it was evening and I lay down on the bed thinking, what the hell did I do now? I better close the site. It was at that moment that I saw a new client who wanted to give me a huge sum of money in exchange for a murder.
So, before closing the site once and for all, I read the assignment.
He asked to kill one of the SMA officers.
I did not imagine that the two jobs would be so opposed.
Better to close this site forever and never talk about it again.
The next day I woke up on time ready to go to this training, I put on the clothes they gave me the day before, a military suit but black.
I heard a knock on the door so I thought it was the SMA guys who had come to get me and instead I found myself in front of a person armed with a rifle, he started shooting at me non-stop, I saw jets of blood coming from my stomach and going in every direction staining the wall. That series of shots seemed like an eternity, they hurt unspeakably. I hoped he would stop but I could already feel the next bullet coming out of the rifle barrel, everything was moving in slow motion but I couldn't do anything. I was about to die when I saw that the man in the green hood left me a note on the ground. What was that note for? Was it for the SMA to report that they had killed me and that they would do it again? But what do I care to know these things? I'm flat on the ground, covered in bullets and blood. I was thinking about all the things I've done during my life, good and bad. I hadn't accomplished much and thinking back I think I'm going to end up in hell. So this was the color of my blood? A dark red that instilled fear and reminded me even more of how I would end up in hell. By now everything was dark, I was definitely dead. How could I think? Did I have to spend the rest of eternity in total darkness reflecting on my sins? What an almost honorable punishment, being able to think is important and I like it, never leave things to chance, think carefully before acting, think before speaking. These were phrases I heard, that I had to respect. As a child I did nothing but complain about the terrible quality of life I had and as a high school student I complained about how difficult school was, which I passed without ever failing, luckily for me. In this darkness I feel truly depressed, it's scary but I feel sadder than scared. How long will I have to reflect on my actions? I can't stand this damned darkness anymore.
