Chapter 1:

Chapter one: Thanos

Escape: A Thangyu story

I’ve had my fill with this life. My career is destroyed. All because of that fucking MG Coin. If it weren't for him, I wouldn’t be $500,000 in debt, and now my career is fucking ruined.

I bite my lip and pick a scab on my finger as I walk along the street. I inspect everyone that walks by me. There was a couple that walked by, the girl was small with short black hair and brown eyes. She’s wearing a black oversized sweatshirt, which I'm guessing is her boyfriends’. Her boyfriend has short black hair that’s covered by his hood. His outfit is a simple black sweatshirt with oversized jeans. They're holding hands and laughing without a care in the world. They must be living the life. Meanwhile I'm enjoying my last day in this wretched world.

I reach the bridge. A car zooms by me, not knowing that I'm about to die, not caring in the least. They have better shit to do. To them I'm just a nobody walking along the sidewalk of the bridge. And I am a nobody. I finally stop and lean on the side of the bridge. Before I die, I pull out my necklace. It is a cross, and inside it is my escape from reality. I take a blue pill and pop it into my mouth, and in a matter of minutes, my thoughts fade away. My body escapes from me and I'm in my own world.

I use my strength to hoist myself onto the edge of the bridge. I look down only to find water. For a split second I hesitate. What if I miss out on life? What if things can get better? What if I'm about to do something stupid, and I can’t reverse it? Then I think of my debt and how my career of being a rapper is long gone. Maybe it is better to die- if I do, I won't have to live in this hell of a world.

I close my eyes, ready to jump.

“Sir.” My breathing stops and my eyes open. I turn towards the voice. Is it that guy in a black suit? He’s holding a briefcase in his hand. I give him a confused look.

“What the fuck do you want from me? Don't you see I'm busy?” He doesn’t answer my question, but instead opens his briefcase revealing a red and blue ddakji and stacks of cash. Lots of cash. Hundreds of thousands of won.

“Do you want to play a game?” He gives me an unsettling smile. By now, I’ve forgotten that I was going to die so I agree.

“There are some rules. If you lose, you have to give me 100,000₩, or you could pay with your body. Each slap removes 100,000₩ from how much you owe me. If you win, you get 100,000₩” I nod and take a puff of my vape that was in my pocket. We play this game and I get smacked almost every time. I beat him twice, but the money I got wasn't even enough to buy a new couch in my apartment. The guy pulls a card out of pocket inside his jacket and hands it to me.

“If you want to play more games like this and earn lots of money, call this number.” I look at the card. It has a circle, triangle, and square on it. I turn it around to see a phone number on it.

“Who am I calling? How do I know i-” I look up to see that the man has left and he was nowhere to be found. I look at the card, then the ocean, then back at the card. Maybe this is a sign. Maybe I'm not supposed to die yet.
