Chapter 3:
Escape: A Thangyu story
Music starts to play, and my eyes shoot open. Where am I? I slowly sit up. There are stacks and stacks of beds, with lots and lots of people. My outfit looks pretty cool. Except for the number on it. 230? What's that supposed to mean? Then I remembered the card I got and the van that pulled up at a random location and took me away somewhere. I check my pockets for my phone. Nowhere to be seen. I shrug my shoulders. There wasn't anything to do on it anyway since I couldn’t pay for the phone bill. But then I remember my cross. MY CROSS! I panic and start to check my pockets over and over again. I look under the pillow and blanket. Something cold moves on my neck and I feel it. It was my cross. Relief washes over me as I kiss it and place it back into my jacket.
“WHERE’S MY PHONE?” I jump from the sudden yell. It comes from the beds on top of me. The guy gets out of his bed, but falls, not realizing that he is high up. I hold in a laugh. I walk over to him. He has long black hair. His suit is the same as mine and his number is 124. I Hold my hand out for him to grab it. He looks at my hand - probably looking at my nail polish - then takes it, letting me pull him up. He looks at me, then his eyes go wide.
“You're the guy in the van that was sitting next to me!” I stare at him blankly. His face turns red.
“Oh, sorry, you were asleep.” He tucks his hair behind his ear. Then he looks at me again, studying my face. His face lights up again.
‘Oh, I know! You're that rapper I saw at the Club Pentagon. Thanos right? I was a club promoter there! We met each other one time,” I bite my bottom lip, trying to remember if I’ve seen him before. Oh yeah, I did catch a glimpse of him one time, and maybe we had a little conversation, but that's really it. In the corner of my eye, I see someone on one of the beds. He looks exactly like MG Coin. I snarl.
“That fuckin MG Coin.” Me and the other guy say in unison. We stare at each other and already know why we both said it. He pushes his hair behind his ear again, and looks at MG Coin. This guy seems cool.
“Hey, I didn't get your name.” He looks at me again.
“It’s Nam-gyu.” I nod. Then I grin and put my arm around his shoulder.
“You seem cool, Nam-gyu. Whadaya say we stick together, eh? For whatever might happen, I might need another man by my side.” He thinks for a second, then grins.
“Fine by me.” Just then we hear footsteps. I turn around to see three people in pink. The one in the front is wearing a square black mask and the two in the back are wearing triangle masks, and they are holding guns.
“Hello,” The one in the front says. “I would like to extend a heart warm welcome to you all.” People start asking questions, and some start arguing.
“Where are our belongings?” One of the people asks.
"We are keeping them to make sure they don't get damaged.” Everyone starts to get angry. Then I remember that I have a question about our shoes. I take one off.
“My shoes are fucking limited editions! Will they be replaced if they get messed up?” The people in pink don't respond. People start asking why they are here and if they can get out and go back home. The pink guard says no, that we had all came here on our own free will. Then I hear this one voice. It's a girl, with brown hair in a ponytail. There are two white braids in her hair. She’s good lookin.
“Hey guard? That suit that you're wearing, it’s pink. I like that color, why do we have to wear these rags? Can I wear yours?”
“You all came here with your own free will. You all are required to wear these suits.” Then he pulls out a remote and hits a button. A TV comes out of the wall and it turns on. The video shows the girl being slapped. Then the guard starts giving her information- her name, how much debt she was in. But it isn’t just her, it shows everybody, and the guard spills everyone's information out. When it shows Nam-gyu, his face turns a light pink and he shifts the weight of his feet a little. For some reason, I think he is a little cute in that instance. What is wrong with me? Guys don't think other guys are cute. I'm a man. I need to act like one too.
