Chapter 36:
Veil of the Shadow Hunter
The dark expanse of the Shadow Realm was alive with chaos as Leegna clashed with the living nightmares. His ring, now transformed into the Velvet Shroud, wrapped around him like a cloak of midnight. The cloak's power created a barrier that repelled their attempts to harm his soul directly, though the enemies pressed on with relentless ferocity.
-Leegna's movements were swift and precise, his training under Enzok paying off as he expertly maneuvered through the fray. The Living Nightmares, sensing the threat, adopted a defensive stance. They shifted, creating barriers of shadows that blocked Leegna's attacks, their eyes gleaming with an eerie intelligence.
Aternos, hidden in the shadows, watched with a calculating gaze. His expression was tense, but his eyes were unwavering. He could see the tide of the battle shifting slightly in Leegna's favor, and a flicker of concern crossed his face.
-Yuj, appearing as a shadow among shadows, was equally focused. He interfered with subtlety, whispering suggestions and illusions that aimed to mislead and disorient Leegna. But even Yuj's interference couldn't mask the growing sense of unease that something far greater was at play.
Leegna's right eye glowed a deep, intense blue as he tapped into the power granted by his pact with Yuj. The enhanced vision allowed him to perceive the weaknesses of the celestial beings and shadows. With each calculated strike, he seemed to be gaining the upper hand, pushing the Living Nightmares back.
Suddenly, the battle grew even more intense. The Time Guardians, seeing their realm under threat, joined the fray. Their attacks were precise and devastating, aimed to overwhelm and subdue Leegna. Blasts of temporal energy and waves of shadowy force rained down upon him, creating a storm of attacks that battered him from all sides.
Leegna staggered under the onslaught, his energy waning as he tried to fend off the combined might of the Time Guardians and the Living Nightmares. His cloak's protective power faltered against the relentless assault, and he could feel the strain on his body.
Amidst the chaos, the master of the realm made his presence known. His voice echoed with an ancient, commanding authority. "This has gone on long enough," he intoned. "A mere human challenging the guardians... How amusing. But you have underestimated the power of this realm."
-With a wave of his hand, the master unleashed a surge of energy that disrupted the very fabric of reality. The force was so powerful that it created a vortex, pulling Leegna and his opponents into its swirling depths. The battlefield seemed to twist and distort, the laws of nature unraveling around them.
In the midst of this chaos, Leegna felt a surge of determination. He knew he had to act quickly. Ignoring the disorienting effects of the master's power, he activated his Time Leap ability. Time itself seemed to fracture around him, and he glimpsed a counter ticking down from 4 to 3—his remaining uses of the power.
-The strain was evident. From a bird's-eye perspective, Leegna's life force appeared to drain visibly. The combination of using the pact power and the Time Leap was taking its toll. His form flickered, becoming slightly translucent as if struggling to hold itself together. Despite the physical and mental strain, his resolve remained unshaken.
The master's expression shifted from amusement to shock as Leegna vanished from sight. The battlefield fell silent, the Living Nightmares and Time Guardians momentarily frozen in confusion. The sudden disappearance of their foe left a void where moments ago he had stood firm against their onslaught.
Leegna reappeared in a new location, his breathing heavy and his body trembling from the effort. He glanced back at the scene he had just left, understanding that he had only gained a fleeting respite. The real battle was far from over, and the master's intervention was a stark reminder of the dangers still to come.
