Chapter 40:
Veil of the Shadow Hunter
Leegna stood in the center of the room, his cloak fluttering with a gentle breeze from an unseen source. His right eye glowed a deep blue, the signature of his pact power. He took a deep breath, knowing that what he was about to reveal could change everything.
Leegna: "The Time Leap isn't just a tool; it's a last resort, a desperate measure that comes with its own toll. I can only use it four times. Each use drains my life force, and I can't revisit the same moment twice. The butterfly effect takes over, and the more I leap, the more I lose."
He glanced at a mirror, his reflection showing streaks of gray in his hair. His face, lined with fatigue, told a story of the toll that his power had taken.
Leegna: "Each leap causes part of my essence to erode. My hair turns gray, my memories blur. This is why I've been targeted since birth—why my parents died and why Stina was taken from me. I was meant to have help, but fate had other plans."
Leegna's gaze hardened, the weight of his losses reflected in his eyes.
Leegna: "But with this power comes a heavy price. The higher I leap, the more I lose. I cannot undo what has been done, only affect the present and the future."
A hidden chamber, illuminated only by the flickering light of ancient candles. Yuj stands in shadow, his gaze fixed on Leegna with a calculating intensity.
Yuj: "You've learned much, Leegna, but there is more you don't know. The pact we made, it was never just about helping you. It was part of a grander scheme."
Leegna looked up, confusion evident on his face.
Leegna: "What are you talking about?"
Yuj stepped closer, his voice low and filled with a hidden menace.
Yuj: "My true goal was to use you to free myself from this realm. The Guardians and their master are my chains. Once I set myself free, I will ascend to become a higher celestial being, beyond their reach."
Leegna's eyes widened as the truth began to sink in.
Leegna: "So all along, I was just a pawn in your game?"
Yuj smiled, the darkness in his eyes betraying his true nature.
Yuj: "Precisely. But now you know the stakes. You and I, we have a common enemy in the Guardians. Together, we can achieve our goals, though our alliance will be fleeting."
Leegna's gaze hardened as he processed the revelation. The realization that Yuj's goals were so fundamentally opposed to his own was unsettling.
Leegna: "I won't be used as a pawn any longer. But for now, we have a mutual goal—to bring down the Guardians. After that, we shall see who stands victorious."
Yuj nodded, the air thick with tension as the two prepared for their uneasy alliance.
Yuj: "Indeed. Let's see this through to the end."
Leegna turned to the darkened corridor, his mind racing with the weight of what he had just learned. A steely resolve set in his eyes, reflecting the future he had yet to embrace. He knew that to defeat the Guardians and confront the true extent of his powers, he would need to become more than just a fighter—he would need to embody the legend he was destined to become.
Leegna: "This is only the beginning. I will uncover the full extent of my abilities and forge my path, even if it means becoming the shadow hunter I am destined to be."
