Chapter 14:
A Nonsense Afterschool Conversation Between a “Girl” and a Guy
As we’re about to head inside the school, Ari headed straight without turning to the school’s gate.
“Oh, where are you going?” Ren asked Ari.
“To study of course.” she answered. “I can’t study if I’m in the ####.”
“Well that’s because you’re not a student here.” he replied, and grinned. “I’m kind of jealous that you’re skipping your classes.”
“Oh really.” she muttered and smiled at Ren. “I can tell you that I’m more capable than you are.”
“Yeah yeah.” Ren muttered and looked away, shooing her. “I hear you fine.”
“I’m not joking!!!” she exclaimed, but Ren continued walking through the gate, not listening to her anymore. Ari then glared at me, looking at me as if I had done something wrong.
I glared back at her, giving her the same look. “What’s your problem?” I asked her straight, but she continued glaring at me.
We glared at each other’s face for a few seconds before she broke the eye contact. “…” she remained silent as she turn around and continued walking.
This girl… I thought as she walked away.
Since it was incredibly hot outside, I decided to head back immediately inside the school building. I pulled my uniform, letting the air in. “Ah…” I sighed.
What is he doing? I thought as I saw Ren talking to a girl I didn’t know. I walked to him and tried to get a good look at who he was talking about. Then as I was about to reach him, he immediately noticed me and took a glance.
“You know him?” Ren asked the girl, pointing at me.
I frowned at them as they looked at me. “…”
“No, who’s he?” the girl asked.
“It’s my friend. He told me that I should tell you that he was interested in getting to know you.” he answered.
“Huh!?” I exclaimed and pulled him towards me. “What are you talking about!?” I whispered aggressively.
“Really?” the girl replied.
He turned to the girl and nodded at her. “Yeah!” he said.
“Stop…” I raised my right hand and… —CHOP!!! Hit him straight to the head.
“Aw… Stop hitting me that hard…” he muttered.
I bowed at the girl apologetically, “I’m sorry about my friend here. He didn’t mean it.” I said.
Surprised, the girl shook her head and hands, “No no no it’s fine.” she said.
I raised my head and smiled, “Thank you. Sorry about Ren, he’s a bit problematic.”
She chuckled. “It’s fine. I was a bit surprised he started talking to me all of a sudden.”
I turned to Ren and looked at him, blinking multiple times. Realizing what I meant, he apologized to the girl, “I’m sorry about that.”
“Why are the both of you apologizing? It’s fine, it’s not like it’s a big deal.” she said.
You really just can’t leave this guy unattended. I thought and sighed deeply.
“We did waste your time, so it’s natural for us to apologize.” I answered.
“You can just laugh it off, you know?” she suggested.
“I can’t laugh naturally whenever this guy does something like this.” I said as I glanced at Ren.
“This guy is too serious.” she said, looking at Ren.
“That’s how he usually is. But he’s a good guy, and a bit handsome, don’t you think?” he added.
“Now that you think about it…” she muttered as she examined my face.
“…” I remained silent.
“I told you!” he said.
“Stop that.” I said, pulling Ren back. “We’re supposed to be going back to the class. We’re not doing any of this.”
“I know but wait—”
“I’m Emi, nice to meet you.” she introduced herself.
I bowed to her in response, “Nice to meet you too, this is Ren.” I replied, pointing at Ren beside me.
Ren bowed at her, “Nice to meet you.”
She nodded in response. “Nice to meet you too, Ren.” she replied and then turned to me, “May I know your name?” she asked.
“I’m .”
“Nice to meet you . Are the both of you first years?” she asked.
“Yeah. Are you an upperclassman by any chance?” I asked.
“Yes, I’m in my second year.” she answered.
“That explains why your beauty is different.” Ren commented.
“Thank you!!!” she said, smiling at him.
I looked at him with a disgusted face.
“Stop looking at me like that…” he muttered, looking at me. “It’s not a joke.”
“I’m not saying anything like that.” I replied.
Emi laughed. “The two of you are fun to watch.” she said, chuckling at us. “Are the both of you always like this?”
“Yeah, we’re best friends.” he said, placing her arms over my shoulders. “He might not look like it, but his heart screams joy whenever I’m around.”
“I hope that’s not the case.” I said.
“Pfft—.” she laughed hard, slapping her arms. “I-I don’t think that was the case, though.” she said to Ren.
When can I escape this encounter… I muttered in my thoughts as I looked at them. I was getting a bit tired from the extreme heat and wanted to go back to the room immediately.
“Yeah, he is a bit shy, but that’s not always the case.” he reassured, then took a glance at me. “Right…?” he said, slowing down his words.
“…”
“I’m sorry Emi but we need to go the class now.” he said, probably noticing my face.
“See you guys later!” she waved goodbye.
“Let’s go.” he said.
“Oh, it’s done?” I asked.
“You’re already half asleep.” he answered.
“I was?” I muttered and looked around, meeting with Emi’s eyes. “Sorry about that.”
She chuckled and gave me a thumbs-up. “See you guys later!”
I nodded once in response before walking, following Ren behind.
“That was close…” he whispered.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“You were about to fall asleep!!!” he exclaimed.
“How can I sleep in the middle of the conversation.” I answered. “That’s not humanly possible.”
“Ask yourself about it.” he replied, continuing stepping on the stair as we are about to reach the second floor.
I raised an eyebrow, unsure of what’s he talking about. “I don’t know if you’re joking or not.”
“I wish I was joking about it…” he said.
“Okay…?” I muttered.
After the extreme heat from the outside an hour ago, we are finally back in the room.
