Chapter 1:
The Moonlit Offensive
It started with a full moon. The moon cast its silver glow over the war-ravaged valley below. The trenches, the ruins, the bodies it illuminated them all without mercy. Lieutenant Renji Takashi adjusted the strap of his service rifle and exhaled slowly and steadily. The night was alive with the distant sounds of war. but for now, there was only silence.
Renji crouched low behind sine fallen stone pillars, His squad assembled around him like shadows in the moonlight each as battered and weary as he was, awaited his signal. The mission was simple in theory. It was to slip behind enemy lines, and sabotage a supply depot the sun could expose them. Simple in theory. In executions? it is a different story.
"The full moons not doing us any favors",' muttered Corporal Kenta Suda, peering over the ruins. "Feels like we're on stage for the enemies to see."
Renji didn't disagree. Their operation had been timed for this night, but now he wondered if the command had accounted for the clarity the moon would bring. Still, the orders came from command so we had to follow them. He glanced as his team Suda was always quick with a complaint but sharper with his rifle. Haru, their medic, eyes full of quiet determination. Kazu and Daichi There our demolition experts, already setting up the explosives. And then there was Sayaka are scout, her face unreadable as she watched the enemy camp ahead.
"Stay low,: Renji ordered. "We move on my mark."
A gust of wind carried the scent of smoke and blood. The enemy camp was beyond the ridge nested between remnants of what had once been a village. Now a Makeshift fortress of sandbags and steel. Guarded by professionally trained soldiers who would kill without a second thought.
Sayaka signaled from her position, Two guards patrolled near the main entrance rifles slung lazily over their shoulders. beyond them, crates of ammunition and fuel were stacked high perfect targets for their explosives.
Renji tapped Kazou on the soldier. "you and Daichi get to work on the far side. Sude, cover them. Haru, stay close to me."
Kazouo nodded, and the team split off like whisperers in the wind. Sayaka was already gone, she was like a ghost disappearing into the ruins. Renji took a breath and followed keeping low, his boots silent against the dirt. One mistake and the full moon would bear witness to their deaths.
As he reached the edge of the encampment, a strange unease settled in his chest something was wrong. The patrols were too relaxed. The defenses are lighter than expected. His instincts screamed at him to get out, but there is no time to hesitate
Then, a gunshot shattered the silence echoed into the air.
An alarm rang out. Shadows moved. And the full moon watched as hell broke loose,
