Chapter 5:
Earth's Last Countdown
Chapter 5: The Slaughterhouse Massacre
The air is thick with the sharp scent of iron and the scent of blood. Crimson streaks trail down the walls. Bodies lie scattered across the floor, their empty eyes staring into nothing. White smoke chokes the room, thick and suffocating. Distant echoes of gunfire, and the rhythmic hum of lockdown rays pulsing overhead.
R stands in the center, his body bathed with blood, refusing to move. His breath is shallow. His vision blurs. He can barely tell if he’s awake or slipping deeper into something worse.
The sounds are distant at first. "Commander… can you hear me?"
"We’re surrounded! Commander, what should we do?!"
A voice soft but urgent cuts through the chaos. "Wake up, Commander." His fingers twitch and his heart pounds, the static in his head begins to clear. Then, the voice becomes sharp and commanding "R, wake the fuck up!"
His eyes snap open., his reality slams back into him.
SHAID is back.
R hears SHAID’s voice and smirks. "Welcome back to this shithole, SHAID." "Fuck you, R," she fires back. "You feel like shit." R chuckles weakly. "Well, this shithead was doing fine without you."
"Oh really? “she fires back”. So, walking through the red room of a slaughterhouse is doing fine?"
"Fuck off." R replies with a soft moody tone. SHAID’s tone shifts, a bit more serious now. "Three months, R. I was out of commission for fuckin three months, and now you’re in a goddamn massacre zone." R scoffs. "Then why the fuck were you making me look like a madman? Popping into my head while glitching, when I specifically told you to take your damn time rebooting. Did you listen to my orders? Fuck no. Did you keep popping up? Hell yeah." SHAID growls. "I was trying to warn you. Not to follow the fucking landlord, R. But did you listen to my advice? Fuck no. Did you follow the Landlord? Hell yeah"
R pauses from her response as he clenches his jaw. "How the hell was I supposed to understand you when you were bitch-glitching every two seconds?!"
"Oh, so now you’re blaming me for your fucking mistakes R?" SHAID continues. "If anything happens to my precious cure, that’s on yo Ru, not me."
R exhales through his nose. "You know, for a biological AI, you’re fucking insane." She laughs. "And you’re an idiot. Let’s get the fuck out of here."
R tries to shake off the haze, but his vision stays blurry. The gas still lingers in the air, messing with his senses. "Why the fuck is everything still blurry?"
"The gas that was sprayed during your fight with these shitheads the ones you turned into headless corpses." Wait… are you stepping on scattered brains? Eww..." R grits his teeth. "Focus, SHAID." She huffs. "The gas is laced with hallucinogenic compounds. That’s why you’re seeing things, it messes with your senses as you inhale it. And the aftereffects? Well, they're making your system malfunction."
"For how long?" R asks as SHAID replies "Fifteen, maybe twenty, maybe thirty minutes. You should be ai’ght in fifteen, though. Your system is still sharp, thanks to me turning off the gas as soon as I reconnected. A simple thank you would be nice."
"Yeah, yeah," R mutters. "If you can hack fucking gas pipelines, just hack the system and shut down the lockdown mode." SHAID groans. "I would have fucking done that if the only way to disable it wasn’t a biometric scanner. Some genius thought a literal finger was a great idea."
R rolls his eyes. "Great. I thought my way back was just straight down, but with all these bodies, I don't remember shit. Scan and find me a way back to the bar."
"Already done. Let’s go. This place smells like shit." SHAID mutters R sighs. "Which way?"
SHAID chuckles. "Oh, right. You’re half-blind at the moment. Just walk forward."
R grins. "Fuck you."
SHAID chuckles. “Fuck you too”
As they step out of the corridor there is silence; No alarms, no shouts, no immediate attacks. But as they reach the next passage, sound rises from ahead filled with multiple footsteps R tightens his fists. The massacre isn’t over yet.
He starts to hear footsteps, multiple people coming towards him. He pauses and says, “Did you hear that?”
SHAID responds, “I can hear what you’re hearing, you know?” R ignores her and asks, “How many are they?” SHAID replies “Twenty mercenaries coming towards you.”
“Are there no other routes?” R asks trying to avoid what is coming ahead of him as SHAID replies rudely “According to my scans, this place is just a bunch of dead ass tunnels with no real destinations. Each tunnel is locked with the same door lock at the Landlord’s office. The only open door is the wooded door at the bar, and the tunnel leading to it is straight ahead of you. The mercenaries are coming from there.”
R scowls. “Any shortcuts?” SHAID laughs, “You’re half-blind, not half-deaf.” R grunts. “How far are they coming towards this direction?”
“About thirty meters and closing.” She replies
R’s hands move to the nano-tech pistol at his waist, the glow shifting from red to blue as it floats into his hand. “Weaponry and how close are they now?”
“These guys aren’t armed with lethal weapons, but they are armed,” SHAID replies. R confused with what SHAID just said “the fuck you saying” SHAID chuckles as she Their arms have been replaced with literal chainsaws one has a fuckin cool laser sword. But still, who advised them?" SHAID laughs, making a jest of their mechanical bodies. "One of them’ s got a metal leg, bro thinks he the main character, this ain’t taekwondo blud." R raises an eyebrow. “How close are they?” SHAID chuckles as she notices R weapons changing color to blue. “Bastard, your weapon’s upgraded to blue. How many people have you fucking killed with Reaper?”
R’s lip curls as he replies. “he hasn’t eaten for months. He’s hungry. Had to feed him. What SMGs does Reaper have in his collection?”
“Hmm... the Kriss Vector CRB G2, Mac 10, and PP-19 Bizon,” SHAID answers, then adds, “Damn, you haven’t fed this boy in ages.” R growls, “SHAID, for fuck’s sake, how close are they?”
“Fifteen meters, and getting closer,” she replies. “They brought chainsaws to a gunfight? This isn’t fair.”
R grins with a dark smile. “Life isn’t fair.”
He rushes towards the mercenaries, their footsteps growing louder. They start shouting, unaware of what’s coming. Before they even see him, R launches his hands forward, and Reaper transforms from a normal pistol into a Kriss Vector CRB G2. He sprays the mercenaries down—no time to think, no time to react. They fall, lifeless, before they even had a chance.
SHAID shouts, “Headshots. Nice work, R.”
As he strides through the dead bodies, the journey back to the tunnel continues, with more sprays in the air and mercenaries dropping around him. R replies “you!! fuckin crazy bitch” SHAID giggles hearing this.
More gunfire fills the air, more mercenaries drop around him. Sounds of lasers slicing through the darkness come from all directions. The unique thing about Reaper—R’s weapon—is that despite taking the form of a gun, its bullets are pure energy, shaping into solid rounds at the moment of firing. Light, fast, and devastating.
The battle rages on. R keeps catching bodies, and SHAID is having the time of her life. As R’s vision sharpens, his movements become even deadlier. His brutality worsens. Mercenaries fall before they can react. Those who see him met a merciless commander and his reaper in a blink before meeting their demise. Finally, they reach their destination; the tunnel leading to the bar.
“This is it. Our destination is straight for………. Dodge!” SHAID warns. R tilts his head slightly just in time to dodge a shot aimed straight for his last good eye.
SHAID snickers. “You almost became a full-blind man.” Suddenly, gas floods the area. Thick. Choking. It swallows everything. R grits his teeth. “SHAAAAAAAAAAID!” “No worries,” she replies calmly. “This isn’t like the last gas. It won’t affect your body. They’re just trying to make you blind.” The glow of Reaper flickers. The blue hue fades to black. R and SHAID mutter at the same time, “Shit.”
Reaper needs blood to function. It won’t power back up unless it makes physical contact with fresh blood. Then, the scavengers emerge, multiple figures step out of the side rooms— eft and right, cutting off the path forward. R tenses. His guess was right. They’re near the kitchens. His vision remains clear for now, but as soon as they fire, it’s chaos. The bright lasers rip through the air. R dodges the first shots, but they don’t stop coming. They don’t want him to charge forward. He can’t see them, but they can see him which makes him very frustrated as he asks. “SHAID, why the hell can’t I see them, but they can see me?”
SHAID hums. “Darling, they’ve upgraded their eyes. Advanced coding. They can see through fog, darkness” R dodges another round of laser fire, smirking. “Those eyes… they’re programmed, right?”
SHAID replies “of course they are fuckin pro………... oooh” she pauses then laughs. “You sneaky bastard.”
“How many are there?” R asks, sliding behind cover. “More than fifteen.” SHAID replies
“And the kitchen?” R curious
“that’s where the last scavenger is —armed to the teeth.” SHAID replies
R grins like a predator as he drags Reaper along the ground, the weapon shifting into a long katana. He tosses it to his other hand, and in an instant, Reaper duplicates, forming dual black katanas. R points into the fog, straight at the enemies he can’t see with a dark grin as he says. “Then let there be darkness.” SHAID bursts into laughter, a villainous, chaotic laugh as the red warning lights flicker. Then, in an instant, the entire area plunges into blackness.
Panic erupts as the red lights comes back but the scavengers eye sights are gone.
“My eyes, my fucking eyes!”
Every scavenger with mechanical vision goes blind. They scream, shooting wildly in every direction, desperate, confused, scared.
R smirks. They don’t even know what’s coming as he charges towards the blind scavengers.
A deep womp sound hums from Reaper, signaling its ready for the massacre about to happen.
R becomes a ghost in the dark. The scavengers can’t see him, can’t hear his steps. He rips through them. Blades cleave through flesh. Limbs hit the floor. Heads roll. R stabs straight into their mechanical eyes, destroying their enhancements one by one. The blind fools start firing at each other in panic. As R faces the last person who doesn’t know where to move SHAID filled with joy says “FINISH HIM”. R tears tears the scavenger stomach, cutting him into half intestines pouring on the ground.
The massacre ends, R stands alone as the gas clears, bodies are in pieces.
SHAID sighs in amusement. “R wins. Fatality.” Reaper flickers back to red as Its low hum pulses in the air.
R nods, stepping over the last corps, heading toward the first kitchen, then he stops.
A massive figure blocks his path. R’s body tenses as he raises his head up to the beast in front of him. His heart beats start to skip. “This thing… fuckin is huge SHAID.” He says
R stands 6’2" tall, with a broad, muscular frame that speaks of years of combat and survival. His build is both powerful and agile not just brute strength, but a body conditioned for speed, endurance, and precision. His chest is thick and well-defined, his pectoral muscles hardened like steel, while his shoulders are broad and squared, giving him an imposing presence. But next to this monster, he feels like a damn infant. The figure grips a massive spiked baton, nails jutting out from all sides as steam hisses from the tubes lining its body. Looking at this scary beast R remembers this beast is the same one he saw earlier. The one that beat a man to death, leaving only a bloodied pulp. Its metal cage mask gives away nothing. Only the deep, guttural breathing from the pipes connected to its face.
SHAID’s voice breaks the silence.
“…Damn. You’re fucked.”
