Chapter 29:
I dream of an end
K4 gives a smile towards Lucy, who leaves the room immediately to begin the defence operation; K4, on the other hand, leaves to get Hino, who is sitting in the waiting area of the HQ.
"We are going to the wall." K4 stands above Hino, who seems to just be relaxing.
Hino refuses. "I don't want more trouble with that woman..." His tone was rather defeated.
"We don't have time for this!" K4 grabs Hino sharply, pulling him up and running out of the HQ. They run down the stairs and see the convoy of SUVs about to head out. Quickly, before the last one leaves, K4 grabs the man inside the car who was peeking out to see if it was his turn.
The agent inside stares at her in shock that a mere girl was about to approach him. "Get away—" Before finishing his sentence, K4 grabs him and throws him out of the SUV onto the pavement. Quickly sliding her hand into the SUV, she unlocks the door and hops into it. Figuring out the controls, K4 opens the door to the back for Hino.
Hino gets in, and both of them slam the door shut. "Ah, I like this car... Hino, this will be our new transport for now!" With the car powered on already, K4 slams the pedal, and the car zooms forward; her driving skills were master level from her database information.
K4 had a wide range of drivable vehicles stored in her mind; she included planes, helicopters, tanks and even any model of car. Her skillset would be super useful in a war where speciality is needed.
She starts tracing the signal emitted way out of the city centre, the same way except backwards; after minutes of driving in the panicked city, she was stuck in traffic...
"What is this stupidity..." K4 blurts out.
Hino leans from behind. "Maybe you should've taken a helicopter instead of stealing just a car."
"Don't lecture me about robbing..." The ongoing traffic was still going slowly; by the time they leave, there won't be any city to save.
With a quick weave of the steering wheel, K4 starts half driving on the sidewalk on their left; they might be breaking laws, but there was no enforcement to even stop them at this stage; there are more important matters.
"Agh!" Hino, not having his seatbelt on, starts to get flung around, the fluffy cushioning being his only hope of not breaking apart.
The SUV gets out of the congested city, finally leaving the skyscrapers behind, and gets greeted with the metal sheet of Shilo. They had kilometres of a metal sheet to drive by, and K4 instantly starts to pull down the pedal, shifting the gears to achieve maximum speed.
Hino, back onto his seat, makes sure to put on his seatbelt. "We are basically criminals now." His sour expression doesn't give away this rather disappointed outlook.
"We were always criminals in this city the moment we broke in. You just see it better now!" The enthusiasm wasn't intoxicating to Hino; it was just odd that a robot could have such a hyper-energetic mind in the face of death.
The rest of their ride becomes smooth, but their possible death leaves a daunting feeling within them. After around ten minutes, they reach the wall at last, staring at the huge, towering creation above them, the sun enlightening it a bit more.
They arrived at the wall's bottom. The towering creation is daunting to look at, but with a shift passage in the wall every hundred metres, there is an elevator installed for heavy-duty equipment and personnel to enter and leave with easy access.
Both of them walked into the elevator; it had metal doors, and the walls had a far warm wallpaper that stuck to it. The size of the elevator could even fit around twenty of them. "Hino, make sure to not let that huge robot hit you. I will deal with it, and you will deal with the things underneath us trying to break in."
"That sounds reasonable." As the elevator ascended, there was a twisted tension in the air, the idea of trying to defy fate itself to save the people of Shilo; it wasn't a small task to handle.
Having built a community of people, they shouldn't be abandoned by them. Hino despises this way of thinking that K4 has developed, but it was unavoidable after so many rewinds. They now have a mission to keep Jumper and Lucy safe; despite their brief times together, they knew that they were good people.
'This monster is something I haven't even encountered. I don't know the weaknesses of it or the attacks it has. All I know is that it has the power to destroy the Shilo Wall, and that alone is terrifying.'
The elevator halts at the top of the wall, the metal doors slide open, exposing them to the gusts of wind so high up on the wall, and the screams of men and orders given out were overwhelming but expected in such a situation. They both walk out of the elevator, taking in the view.
Cannons and men with rifles, snipers and rocket launchers firing at the distant monstrosity coming; its body was like a balloon floating in the sky with arms. It was a huge mass of robotic parts and flesh put together into a clump, a moving meatball that seemed to float off the ground.
The explosion of cannons deafens out their hearing from what's happening; the area was clearly in a state of panic. Turning back to Hino, he gives a slight nod and starts walking towards wherever there are robots underneath; K4, on the other hand, prepares herself.
'Time to face some real firepower, meatball.' She positions herself towards the meatball; her right arm points itself towards its body, and the white glow emitting from the metallic barrel envelops the attention of the staff upon the wall; their uniforms made of silver reflect the white glow.
With her power output at 100%, this was going to be a powerful blow compared to her previous limited ones. Due to the distance and the size of her arm, the output level was necessary at this point.
zzt
The bolt of light flashes the wall; a white flash consumes them all for a mere moment, which transfers all of its energy towards the barrel. It becomes a thin line with the power of a star; the bolt shot out of the barrel travels at near light speed due to the output.
A direct penetration of the meatball's body, a huge hole left in the middle of its clump takes shape, a successful hit
'This thing is more powerful than I expected...' Her lens watched the meatball, seemingly unaffected by her attack.
"Hey Hino, this thing might be a bit too strong for me." Her lens turned to Hino, who was shooting down at the robots trying to weaken the wall.
His eyes turn to meet hers, his eyes tired of this ordeal. "If you can't defeat it, then we might as well quit," he continues firing down below at the robots.
'I need more output... 100% isn't enough, but that's all I can muster. There has to be another way.' Her eyes wander around, seeing if anything can be done to help, but her ideas run short.
With no better motive, she goes up to an agent operating the cannon and knocks him out. "Sorry, I just need this device." Her lens wanders to the earpiece the agent has; she kneels down, making sure to pick it up without any force that could break it.
The earpiece was black and would fit any human ear, with her build being made of a human resemblance; it should also fit. Her hand wanders to her ear, making sure the earpiece is secure; the sound of Lucy ordering around agents is clear from the earpiece, and she seemed rather stressed.
Turning back to the meatball ahead, her lens noticed the railgun hole was fully healed up. 'That's impossible...'
The meatball finally stops moving a kilometre away from the wall. It starts to spin forward towards the wall at an increasing pace, and all the agents continue firing while K4 knows what's about to happen.
"hino!" She sprints over to Hino, who looks at her desperately moving; he immediately realises the danger of the situation and starts to run towards the elevator towards K4.
At that moment, the wall breaks, its towering mass toppling down, crumbling under the power of the meatball. K4 and Hino look to their left, seeing the meatball above them; they look at it in anger and fear of its terrible might.
Grabbing Hino like before, she drags him off of the wall. She jumps off of it slightly using her left hand to scale down the mixture of materials in the wall; her arm was way stronger compared to the rusty, broken-off wall.
