The rhythmic clatter of hooves was a constant backdrop as our carriage moved steadily toward Eldoria, the heart of the Avalon Empire. The early morning sun filtered through the thick forest canopy, casting shifting patterns on the dirt road.
Sylvie sat quietly across from me, her posture composed. She had been assigned by Mother to accompany me on this journey, a silent yet diligent presence.
My gaze was fixed on the passing scenery, though my thoughts were far from peaceful. The face of Baron Thalos lingered in my mind. A man of weak resolve but a cunning opportunist—closely acquainted with Morgana.
Did she order the attack?
It didn't matter.
Whether Morgana was involved or not, I would find out eventually. The only certainty was this: Baron Thalos had crossed a line.
A cold smile tugged at my lips. And I will crush him.
The carriage jolted slightly as the road curved, pulling me back to the present.
"We're near the capital," Sylvie informed me in her calm voice.
I nodded without replying.
Moments later, the towering walls of Eldoria came into view, majestic and imposing. Beyond them lay the city—bustling streets, grand structures, and at its heart, the Celestial Sanctum.
The carriage came to a halt at the gates of the sanctum. Alaric and Edwin dismounted first, their commanding presence parting the crowd of nobles and attendants gathered outside. I followed closely, Sylvie trailing behind without drawing attention.
Inside, the sanctum was a grand spectacle of marble pillars, shimmering chandeliers, and vibrant banners bearing the imperial crest. Nobles from all over the empire were gathered, their elaborate attire a testament to their status.
I scanned the crowd, noting familiar faces and unknown ones alike. Conversations buzzed around me, but I paid them little mind. My gaze moved with precision, evaluating and cataloging each figure.
Then I saw her.
A fiery red hair and sharp, red eyes standing amidst a group of nobles. Her bearing was regal, yet there was a calmness about her that set her apart.
She met my gaze, her expression unreadable.
Princess Caelia.
She didn't flinch or avert her eyes. Instead, she held my stare with quiet confidence.
I maintained my indifferent expression and turned away without reaction.
Just as I moved forward, a booming voice echoed through the hall.
"His Highness, Prince Diluc, has arrived!"
The crowd parted, all eyes turning toward the grand entrance.
And so did mine.
To be continued....
