Chapter 31:

Final impact

I dream of an end

'This energy – I feel liberated, like a force that will allow me to evolve into a further being. It's beautiful.' K4 notices the changes in her body, her subtle twitches suggesting the power is a bit too much for her body's liking.

Pandemonium stares down onto k4 still. "Seems you still got that power in you after so many rewinds. I finally won't be disappointed after all the wait." Her voice shivers with enthusiasm; definitely couldn't be contained for a while.

"Just tell me where to aim!" The mouth wavers as the surge of power is hard to control; the slight hint of desperation riddles within her.

Pandemonium points out far beyond the Shilo wall, kilometres away, forcing K4 to zoom in with her lens. "Do you see that wire sticking out? That's where its energy is supplied."

"Understood." Her arms turn and twist themselves towards the wire poking out of the floor in hopes of hitting it perfectly apart, her aim not faltering for even the slightest second, even Pandemonium, who usually talks, seems to be in complete silence.

'Hope this playful demon isn't a liar after all...' She lets go of the systems controlling the railgun's power; her hand vibrates uncontrollably despite her best effort, and K4 starts trying to restabilise her hand.

'This thing is powerful...' With a couple more seconds of wrestling with the drag of the railgun, K4 regains a bit of control from the energy within, her arms refocusing back onto the faraway cable, the meatball waiting for its impending doom rather obediently.

The white beam spurges out of the railgun barrel. K4 throws herself onto her back from the immense kick, almost falling off the building, now turning into an earthquake simulation. Her body's circuits fry internally, and she bleeds out white liquid from within her insides; her lens gives off multiple warnings like her life was about to end at that moment.

Hino from below feels the tremors of the railgun; he adjusts himself to look upwards into death's eye. The white beam, bigger than a helicopter, penetrates the sound barrier, causing a deafening effect to break his ears. The silence embraces him while the robots below also marvel at the exquisite sight.

"Oh wow, that's a big blast." Pandoium leans over forward, looking at the light speed beam hit the exposed wiring like she told K4.

Hino on the ground with the agents still looking around on the railgun blast travelled in mere seconds; the sky turned white, and the stars became the darkest part of the universe, the uniformed beam sparking slightly little trinkets of energy down onto Shilo.

The meatball starts slowly falling from its floating position, its balance vanished like the darkness before the blast. "It worked..."

"told you to trust me a bit..." Pandemonium starts rocking around on K4's shoulders like a delighted teacher after the student listens.

'My systems feel weakened, very weak.' Her body wobbled slightly around the signal tower, trying to gain its footing back.

"Was that too much...?" Pandoium's eyes dart down underneath, giving a slight nudge.

"What is it?" K4 looks down, noticing the mass ruins of what the railgun did; the earth cracked, and the city was like an earthquake aftermath. The meatball falling added just that extra bit of ruin to the already massacred city of Shilo.

What was once a city of hope and survival for humanity became a place of wastelands and nearly collapsed buildings.

Hino looks at the robots, seemingly stunned; he instantly gets his laced arrow and winds the arrow up into the firing position. "Do not get distracted!" he screams to the agents, who instantly start getting ready for action again.

He shoots the arrow, piercing a nearby robot, while the other agents start shooting using their guns at the other mass of distracted robots looking at the location of the railgun being fired from just a couple of seconds before.

They fall one by one like an army being bombarded by shells, with their head command screwed over; the rest of the robots start to run away in many directions, especially back towards the wall, thinking they could get another chance.

"This should be a win; keep pushing." Hino commanding the agents towards the breached wall, he takes the lead, making sure the agents don't forget that a mere teenager could outperform them.

Robots of all kinds, dogs and cats and even humanoid ones, start to fall and break like just components; K4 alone changed the doom of what was going to happen to Shilo. Altering history was the closest that one could compare it to.

Back at the signal tower, pandemonium was nowhere in sight, seemingly having enough of whatever the aftermath was; K4 alone wobbles, almost about to collapse.

Moments pass until the realisation hits: 'Can't move anymore.' Currently, she should be trying to fight back or figure out a solution, but she couldn't at this stage; she didn't care anymore to try and save herself.

K4's body, now limp from the power drawbacks, starts to topple over off of the signal tower; her body falls into the sky, her lens slows down completely, and peace is the only thing she can feel at this moment; there was no point.

the signal tower started to get further and further from her while the sight of the skyscraper started to enlarge; the wind blew from underneath, trying to lift her up to no avail; there was no struggle or sounds coming from her, just the mere acceptance of what's going to come to her soon.

"Was it worth it?" Above her, a fiery red child flutters down with her white robes slightly leaning in towards her; those yellow eyes sparkle with delight and anticipation.

K4 gives a weak smile back to the child. "Even if I die, even if I can't save humanity anymore, I saved everyone here. I think I'm satisfied." slowly closing her lens to get invaded by the darkness

It was peaceful.

It was beautiful.

...Hino hears a loud shattering sound in the distance; he throws no attention to it. His duty was to lead the agents to victory at this counterattack.

'We have to be quick, or they might recover their senses.' His arrows pierce numerous amounts of robotic humanoids trying to run away, their metallic bodies being nothing more than just a fun game for his aim.

His efforts drive out the robots from the main city; his command of over fifty agents with the control room support gives him an edge above the average. "Get in your vehicles!" His orders were echoing across Shilo; the agents immediately started running towards their vehicles while Lucy analysed from the control room.

Her gaze focuses on the screen pointing down at Hino. "He's a natural-born leader; I will make good use of him. Prepare a medic team for K4; her body is a little bit destroyed..." They dispatch a medic team hoping to recover K4, who lies on the shattered ground in ruins, circuitry and limbs all detached.

The screens project the vehicle slaughtering happening at the metal sheet; the burning of passion within the agents transfers onto the metal sheet, blazing it hot down from the sunlight. They drive the robots closer and closer towards the breached wall; arrows and guns alike pierced over five hundred robots at this point, and the rest faltered.

Sounds of vehicles and rotors fill the sky and ground; their misery ends in just a kilometre, and the wall continues to get closer and closer, with Hino leaning out of an SUV urging them forward.

Whatever robots remained, they managed to escape into the safety of the plains, pressing forward past the breached wall, leaving uncertainty and danger that could be unparalleled to what happened today.

'One left' Hino, at the breached wall, sees a single robot standing outside of the confines of Shilo. His arrow starts penetrating the air, flying at immense speed towards the singular robot. The wind whooshes and bends to the arrow's will, and a slight whisper emits from the speed. The laced arrow is hungry and devours the middle of the robot, causing it to fall over.

"We have won!" Hino calls out their victory as everyone sighs in relief or jumps in joy, the last robot in front of them starting to slowly get up...

'impossible!'
