Chapter 12:

Side B

Rain, Rewind and You

Morning, the day Sofi leaves the village

The sun is already up.
Waves are soft. The sky is clear.

Sofi zips her bag, standing at the edge of the small bus stop near the beach.
She’s not crying. Just staring out at the sea like it’s telling her goodbye.

Her phone buzzes.

1 new message from El:

“If you have time, come by the studio. I’ve got something for you.”

She doesn’t reply.

But she goes.

Studio, final time she would show up here.

El is there — standing by the console.

Not waiting. Not nervous.

Just… present.

He hands her a small box.
Doesn’t say anything. Just gestures for her to open it.

Inside: a worn-out Walkman. Carefully cleaned.
And a cassette, handwritten label: Side B.

“It’s not perfect,” he says. “But neither are we.”

She laughs — the real kind, messy and soft.

“Does it even work?”

“Only when you press play.”

She holds it like it weighs something sacred.

The Bus stand by the beach

The Bus Arrives.

No dramatic chase.
No long hugs.

They stand there.
Side by side.

Sofi puts on the headphones.

El presses the play button for her.

The tape plays:
It’s the full song.
Layered hums. New chords.
No words — just everything they couldn’t say out loud.

She closes her eyes.

He watches her, quietly.

The bus doors open.

“You coming back?” he asks.

She shrugs.

“Next year. Same week.”

“You sure?”

She pauses.

Then smiles.

“Let’s see if the sea remembers us.”

She boards.

El doesn’t wave.

The bus leaves.

City, weeks later

Sofi walks through the city streets, headphones on.

The Walkman clipped to her jeans.

She rewinds the tape.

Presses play again.

Cassette ends.

Click.

Fade to black.
