Chapter 24:

32. Dragons dream for the river of stars

The path to Peace! ~ Mizunashi

With the relation between humanity and dragons, and nanites, steadying, we had our singularity.

Dragons and angels technologies combined could manufacture their own food, if associated with the proper supply lines handled by humans and then the NUN.

The New United Nations, or New Utopic Nation unlocked this technological skeleton key that was similar to the authority I had bee. exceptionally given.

Now the system had found its harmony to do everything, steadily.

This allowed it to unlock some previously forbidden technologies, although with voices more clear to interact with the system, we could find our ways just more efficiently.

The dragons allowed themselves to bloom into a new singularity nation turning the supplies into technologies and vessels, with the symbiosis to the system and our old biology ecosystem.

The concept of machine life became real from the dragons.

While fairies had the biological symbiosis and control to push our combined species even further. They became harbingers of organic chemistry and biology.

Together and in peace at last, we could finally head for the stars.

The nanotechnology golden age of civilisation was regrown, but not reborn. If the essential defences were insured with the help of the dragons and the remaining laser defence satellites, it was better to go a step further and resurrect all the potential of the old civilisation in the matters of safeguarding the future.

But nothing more defence wise.

A lot more civilisation and resource wise however.

We rebuilt vaults from old nuclear bunkers to store food, technology and nanites relays. So that if one were to fall in a great tragedy, the other would remain, and be able to continue autonomously.

For us, that meant continuing our path to utopia, provisioning for the long term future.

Managing the balance of the biosphere was the nanites' duty. They also loved playing humans, clearly. But they were eager to help generally, and helping us sow the seeds of the future was thrilling to them. Even if it was just to guard and conserve a stock of food and technology deep below a mountain, or drilling on the moon for helium3...

All the sites Technology Isekai had in the past were repaired, and new ones were built to complete their network, and insure they had everything they needed. Enough back-ups and stasis fields were built around the world, and in space.

And then, at long last, we sent dragons into spaaaace!

That was insanely fun. With the right protection and extended apparatus, and boost on lift off, some volunteer dragons were the first astronauts of this time.

They cried in terror as the rocket carrying the first three lifted off, but then, they fell in love with the sight. Funky machines they were. They were sturdy and adaptable.

Without a hitch, the rockets propelled them one after another beyond Kerman’s line, and further into low Earth orbit, for the first stages of the new road ahead.

Funnily enough, we were staggering behind to redevelop nanotechnology directly. But rockets were launched easily with the proper propellants and supply chains.

We managed to keep contact with our first drakonauts, and all they did was yell how beautiful the planet was when seen from space. The resurrection of the space age with these ones was a blissful success we celebrated worldwide.

I bet it was beautiful... I wanted to go too, to see the planet from up there, with Aster and our child, but we’d have to wait our turn.

Dragons and fairies were the best astronauts and cosmonaut teams imaginable. We focused with their passionate ones to bring the civilisation forward.

Fairies were easier to launch and able to do precise work that included repairs on the existing structures, and detailed manufacture in 0g. They flew all the time with their light wings, weighed nearly nothing, and had human intelligence if not more. They were perfect, and they knew how to adjust biological chemistry with acute sensibilities.

While the dragons were able to fly around with their magic, they were able to sustain far more radiation and temperature damage than biology ever would, and give the stronger push when it came to carry or move heavier objects. Their next generation alloys for scales would even turn cosmic rays into energy to feed them further.

Nevermind the repurposing of their military advantages in that extremely hostile environment, we were scratching the beginning of their evolution into a fully new species, adapted to the harshest conditions of space.

We would give them new scales, engines, thermodynamic circuitry and even propulsion systems, so they could survive longer and longer terms in EVA. They were living equipment that kept getting better.

Also, until we would be able to build a proper spacecraft to hold humans, only they were able to proceed with a re-entry into atmosphere without burning. Their military scales had probably been derived from space shuttle tiling before they came.

So and so, things were progressing well.

Everyone on the island of utopia was clapping at the sights of the first space flight made by dragon and fairy. Perfect size-gap team! And a giant leap for the future of our collective species.

Funny we built space rockets before we could build any plane, but that was reusing our friendly dragons and nanites civilisation’s knowledge and know-how.

So most rockets sent to space carried a payload, and a dragon meant to stabilise the re-entry of anything sent out there. They couldn’t fly very well to adjust altitude of satellites, but still give the last minute adjustments and repairs.

And, well, they loved it. These big things were lining up around the spaceport in anticipation for their turn up there. This was like a great ride for them. They loved the mechanical strain of the boost and lift off, and then the peaceful sight from up there. Even if it was exhausting and wearing their bodies.

It was a bit weird to have a handful of sages doing crowd control of the accumulating population of dragons around the spaceport as they all wanted to take a turn being shot up there.

Gigantic kids...

But they were so happy. We had unknowingly shared that dream of flying a bit higher into the sky.
