Chapter 1:
A Painted Bond
Between the tall, golden towers on the northern side of the kingdom, I wander with my notebook , the one I always carry, ready for any inspiration to strike. Here, where nature go beautifully with the elegance of royal architecture, I find the only place where commons like me are allowed near the castle. So I sit quietly, observing, and sketch whatever the moment brings to mind.
"loufas come here quick!, i found an orange dog come he is so adorable."
That's my friend butch he is quite the joyful, "sure i'm on my way" i guess there is no Creative moment for me this time, it's not like i don't want to be around butch ,but it's just always the time where i get inspired then he cuts in, it annoys me a little. after all he is my only friend and i'm thankful for him being always by my side.
"you see him let's catch him." Butch excitedly said.
It’s just a normal dog. The only thing unusual is its fur, a strange, striking color. Even if that’s something to talk about, it’s hardly worth chasing it down.
" Run quickly! We’ll lose him! " Butch yelled.
What a great day to run after a dog, instead of sitting quietly and observing nature, But for someone like Butch, I guess that kind of peace is impossible. He’d rather charge through things, breaking this and that along the way.
We kept running through the towns until we reached the city, the place where the king and all rich names live. I had run so much I could barely feel my legs, while Butch looked like he hadn’t burned a single ounce of energy. Sure, we were both sweating buckets, but that’s just Butch nothing ever slows him down.
We eventually lost sight of the dog and ended up stuck among the city’s crowded monuments. And by 'crowded' I don’t mean full of people, the place was nearly deserted. What I meant was that it was packed with grand constructions, the kind the wealthy live in and hide behind.
"man i wanted to hug that dog you do not see majestic beings like these around the village."
I didn’t care that we couldn’t catch the dog — all I wanted was a bench to rest on. My feet were burning. I grabbed Butch by the arm and dragged him to the nearest bench so we could sit and eat.
We found two benches neatly aligned in front of a massive yellow-stone fountain. A girl in a long green dress was already sitting on one of them. Without thinking much, we took the other.
"have you noticed that green lady loufas?!."
I said softly, "Lower your voice, man. The rich could get us in trouble."
Butch shrugged. "I don’t think she’s one of those loud gold-holders. She looks about our age maybe we could be friends."
"You’re the one being loud," I muttered.
Even if Butch was right, I wouldn’t have given it much thought. The rich are all the same, no matter their age. Besides, I never cared much about girls.
Honestly, I just wanted to be alone when I grew up — wandering the great wide world, discovering nature and…
He just went to her.
"hello here is an apple, you eat these right?"
What an idiot, I thought. Of course they eat anything gold and silver can buy.
But as Butch went on, my attention drifted. I kept glancing at her, wondering what kind of face was hidden beneath that odd hat.
Then she raised her head. She took the apple with a soft smile and said, in a voice that sounded like something from a dream, "Thanks. I love apples."
And in that moment something has changed.
For a second, I forgot how to breathe. My legs rooted to the ground, my thoughts spinning.
I stood there, hand on my chin, staring at nothing , trying to make sense of the sudden ache in my chest.
Told ya she wouldn’t bite," Butch grinned. "Name’s Butch Willson, and that’s my frien—"
"Okay, that’s enough, Butch. We’re going to be late..." I cut him off quickly.
I wasn’t feeling right. Something in my chest was spinning, and I needed to leave. I grabbed Butch by the arm and started walking away in a hurry.
Then, her voice stopped me. That soft, unforgettable tone again.
"Mine is Sara. Sara Lay — the great King Lay’s youngest daughter. I didn’t catch your friend’s name yet!"
What in the world had we stumbled into?
The king’s daughter.
Of course.
Perfect.
I tried to say my name, to form a proper reply , but nothing came out. I just stood there… humbly. Awkward. Frozen.
"Bye now! Have a good day!" I blurted out, my voice cracking slightly.
And I ran.
Dragged Butch by his shirt as we took off down the street.
Behind us — footsteps. A lot of them. Loud. Fast.
My stomach dropped.
The guards.
They had to be after us.
I glanced back — and my worst fear was confirmed. Four of them. Fully armed.
Then I looked at Butch.
And my heart sank even further.
He was holding her hat.
" What are you doing, Butch?! Why are you holding that hat? Why did you steal it? " I yelled, barely catching my breath.
" Loufas, I didn’t steal it! " Butch snapped back. " I asked her if I could have it, and she gladly gave it to me! "
" When did you even do that? And why would you take it, Butch ?"
" Friend, " he said proudly, " I asked her right in front of you. You were too busy daydreaming. I took it because it looks awesome! "
I stared at him in disbelief. He’s going to be the end of me.
"I swear, Butch… You’re trying to get us both thrown out the kingdom. Now they think we stole from the king’s daughter!"
Could it get any worse?
We left the city and rushed straight into the town — the trade center. It was packed with merchants from every corner of the kingdom, people literally standing on top of each others that is how stuffed the town was.
I couldn’t keep going. My legs gave out, and I collapsed on the stone road. Butch tripped right over me and landed on my back.
Then , silence.
I looked up.
The guards had caught up. Four of them. Surrounding us.
