Chapter 20:

Thalia Goes Full Rage Mode

Falling for the Priestess

While the other two were busy dealing with the horde of undead, Thalia was making her way to Heda. Her mind was racing and she felt a sinking pit in her stomach as she approached the platform where her beloved little sister stood. But was this even her sister anymore now that she was infected with corruption or was this just another monster wearing Heda’s skin? Of this question she was uncertain.

When Thalia’s feet touched the floor, she felt the overwhelming feeling of dread. “Heda, face me. It’s me you want right? Then fight me and me alone. Call off your horde and just focus on me!”

Heda just let out another deranged laugh. “I will not be doing that. I have your weakness now. I know you won’t be able to focus on defeating me with your full power while you are worrying about your human. Despite this, I will give my all to this fight!”

Without another wasted moment, Heda came flying towards Thalia at speeds that rivaled her own. Thalia did not remember her sister being this fast the last time they fought and miscalculated the speed so a blade of ice cut deeply into her arm. Her marks both lit up and an agonizing scream could be heard in the direction of Alara. “Shit, I’m going to have to be a lot more careful than usual because if I don’t it will hurt Alara,” Thalia thought to herself.

She turned around and caught Heda by the sleeve. She sent a powerful burst of wind into one of the growths on her side. Heda stumbled. Thalia had an idea, “Maybe if I cut off all the tumors she will return to normal?”

With a renewed sense of direction, Thalia activated her god tier level flash step. In a matter of seconds, she had chopped through nearly all the tumors but one. As she was about to strike the last tumor, in the voice of Heda when she was young, “Save me Big Sis. Please help me.” She hesitated for just a second, but it was long enough for Heda to bury a sword of ice right into her heart. Thalia spit up a mouthful of blood, but immediately looked to the battlefield where Alara fell to her knees and collapsed. She could feel Alara’s life force fading as Yotaro carried her away from the horde to higher ground.

All the reason drained from Thalia’s body with it, the shine of her eyes also faded. She let out an animalistic growl before her body and Heda’s was engulfed in dark flames. Heda let out a wail as Thalia’s hands gripped her throat and squeezed hard enough to crush bone. The flames had burned Thalia’s flesh as well and the layers of burnt skin flaked off as they had begun repairing themselves. Thalia threw Heda full force into a wall leaving behind an indent in the shape of the necromancer. Heda too was immortal and began to heal her many broken bones, but before she could recover, Thalia was back on top of her again. She grabbed Heda by the back of her hair and dragged her face violently against the ground, peeling off the flesh down to the bone.

Heda put her hand up and attempted to shock Thalia with lightning, but Thalia was faster, snapping her arm back in the wrong direction. The bone stuck out and for the first time, the real Heda returned, but it didn’t matter anymore. Thalia’s consciousness was completely gone at this point. She began to pummel Heda’s face, with both fists. She was hitting her so hard that her own hands were riddled with broken bones. Even when Heda stopped reacting to the punches she continued until her hands were so badly damaged that she could no longer form a fist.

The soulless Thalia got up and moved towards the other source of movement. The still active undead horde. This meant that despite all the damage, Heda was still alive by some miracle.

Thalia jumped down into the horde but instead of destroying them with her fire, Thalia was ripping them apart limb by limb, and crushed their bones with her bare hands. When overwhelmed by their numbers, a pile formed on top of Thalia so she lit herself and the pile on fire. Thalia began to look more like an undead than the actual monsters as she dragged her body forward while her wounds healed.

Meanwhile, Heda had not fully healed yet either, but she regained consciousness. She had never experienced so much pain in her life. Her breathing was shallow, but her mind had become clearer than it had been before the corruption consumed her. At first she had just noticed an odd bump forming on her abdomen, but before long there were others. Soon even her thoughts were not her own. She was consumed by her jealousy and her feelings of unrequited love.

She couldn’t remember what she had done to make Thalia so angry, but she couldn’t bear to see her peaceful big sister become this way again. With all her might she prayed for help from mother Elis. “Mother Elis, please hear me now. Thalia needs your help. If you have forsaken me for my betrayal please at least help her before she destroys herself.” She got no response from mother Elis and instead fainted from the painful remodeling her face was going through.

Thalia continued on her rampage, recklessly breaking her own bones and burning her own flesh. With each regeneration less and less repairs were being made. Soon Thalia could no longer move her arms and began tearing away at the undead army with her teeth. In her mind, Thalia was curled in the fetal position, and each enemy she killed was filling the room with more and more water until she felt like she was drowning. No rational thought was happening. She muttered but a single word. Alara. If she wasn’t saved soon, Thalia was not going to be able to return from that place of darkness.

Yotaro laid, curled in a ball on Alara’s chest. Her heart was no longer beating, blood dripping from her mouth, but her body was not cold yet. Her consciousness still lingered in her body as she stared at the back of her own eyelids. “Is this what it feels like to die? Why is my body so heavy? I’m so tired. I should just go to sleep now.” When Alara had stopped fighting, she started to see the world through Thalia’s eyes. She saw her destroy Heda’s face, light herself on fire, then brutally destroy hundreds of undead. In a pool of water that had collected, Alara saw Thalia look at her own reflection. Her eyes were dead. Body badly injured and it was as if all humanity had been stripped from the priestess.

“No! Thalia no! You can’t do that, you’re going to kill yourself for real this time.” Alara mustered the last strength that she had to send a desperate message. “Elis, I don’t know if you are listening, but I need you to save Thalia. She is in trouble and I can’t help her because I’m dying. Please if you have any love left for your daughter take what is left of my life to save her. I love her too much to allow her to die this way. Please hear my prayers Goddess of Creation!”
