Chapter 21:
Song of Grace
Jale dragged himself to the castle like a beaten dog and yelped and squirreled in front of me like a worm in the dirt pleading for mercy as he told me about the calamity that fallen upon him and the Unicorn’s fire that consumed man’s flesh as it would be made from straw
It took all my self control to restrain myself from killing him on the spot. He served me well before and deserved my mercy even if he failed me and dared to come back bringing ill fated words of Cat’s demise that casted dark shadow on the world I was destined to protect at any cost never until now questioning what this price might be. It didn’t matter..
Almerious told me many times that the great kings of old showed mercy to those who served them well and even if the only reason he told it to me was to to shield his race from my wrath there was a merit to his words
It saved them from the pain the other traitors suffered brought on themselves with their foolish actions and now it would save the tracker
So Jale will live i told myself and send him away from my chamber before my control collapsed under the rage that burned in my heart
She failed, she betrayed all the trust i placed upon her, i wanted to scream in anger but i controlled myself and i collapsed on my throne drained by this effort, holding tight to the golden armrests until my knuckles turned white and i couldn’t feel the pain in my hands anymore
She…
Few tears flowed through my cheeks and fallen of my knees covered by soft satin robe embroidered with gold and silver that felt so out of place on my body
She…left me
