Chapter 1: A SHOCKING Ability

September 1st, 2024

(Edited on February 12th)

Beep… beep… BEEP!

I look out of the window.

“Whoops, there we go. Another incident this week. Gosh… how much I love Al Qantara.”

I take another look out of my room’s window as I view the beautiful scenery of the busy streets in Al Ismailia, Al Qantara, Egypt.

I can hear people cussing out other people.

“Man… it’s literally 4 AM. I always wonder how the streets are busy 24/7, as if it’s a job by itself.”

As I view the scenery out of the window, I hear the words “Game over” coming from the TV.

“DAMN!”

I accidentally yell out loud.

“Oh shi—”

Right after I yell accidentally, I hear the doorknob turn.

As the door opens, a young lady steps into my room—also known as my mom.

I quickly pretend to be asleep, dropping the controller in my hand and hopping onto my bed.

“I know you’re awake… I’m not stupid,” my mom says.

Right after, I say:

“Aw, man!”

“Oh well, there you are. I tricked you pretty well… Get to sleep now, or you know what happens.”

“D-Damn… she caught me.”

My mom leaves the room.

“Oh boy… now that my mom mentions it, tomorrow’s the first day of school… The cycle starts again.”

I look back at my TV. It’s not the latest model or anything—just a blast from the past type of TV.

I notice that even though I made sure to turn the TV off when my mom walked in, the screen is now grey static.

“Hmm… that’s weird. My TV does act up sometimes, but I guess I’ll just pull out the cord?”

I walk up to the TV, reaching my hand to the back.

“And… there we—”

As I insert my hand to remove the cord, I feel a light zap coming from the TV.

“OW… w-what the?”

I quickly eye the zap. I can actually see it clearly. It isn’t light blue—it’s a green and purple zap.

“What the hell…? I’ve never seen a zap that’s purple and green.”

“That’s like… one of those video game glitches.”

I may or may not have been right…

I look at the time once again. Since I don’t really mind a light zap, I shrug it off.

“And it’s 4 AM.”

“Three… no, two hours of sleep on a first school night would be absolutely crazy!”

I say sarcastically as I get in bed.

I immediately fall asleep for some reason…

Beep beep! Beep beep!

“Not this shit again… (after 3 months).”

“DIE FOR GOOD!”

I reach my fist out and absolutely DEMOLISH the alarm clock next to me. I don’t really notice it, but my fist is charged with electricity, moving in a glitchy motion—purple and green.

“Ah… much better. Maybe I could just slide 5 more hour—I mean, 5 more minutes…”

I realize something.

Harith: “Wait… I’m not even strong enough to lift a fork…”

Harith looks at his hands. His hands are surging with electricity and visible glitches.

Harith: “YOOO! I’LL ABUSE IT!”

Harith lifts his hands, but they immediately fall.

Harith: “The last night’s coffee boost ended…”

Harith almost falls asleep while sitting on the bed. As his hand falls on his thigh, he accidentally zaps himself awake.

Harith: “SHIT! OH—I need to get ready now…”

Harith realizes something else.

Harith: “Bro… did I just…?”

Harith removes his other fist from the nightstand. What’s left are the remaining pieces of his phone.

Harith: “Great.”

After a full minute of intense staring…

“Well… that’s certainly a good way to start my day.”

I look up at my now non-existent phone.

“Hmmm… guess I have to follow the stars like a classic Egyptian!”

I get out of my bedroom quickly to check the living room clock.

“And it’s 7:30.”

I look at the clock, not surprised.

“It’s kind of a habit of mine to screw up on the first day of school.”

Harith moves quickly—but a bit too quickly. He doesn’t realize he’s leaving dark blue trails of electricity behind him.

Harith quickly sprints and takes a look.

Harith: “Just in time?”

Harith looks at the clock again.

“It’s 7:45. Class starts at 8:00.”

“You know… there’s a specific show that I really like. I learned just a lil’ technique from it.”

I put my feet together as I stare at the non-existent camera.

“And…”

I start running quickly to school.

“MAKE A RUN FOR IT!”

5 minutes of epic technique running later:

Panting…

Harith: “I did it!”

As I reach the school, the gates shut in my face.

I turn white with a deadpan look.

“Oh… well, no problem!”

Harith: “I know a way! I wouldn’t be a real Egyptian if I didn’t know about it.”

Harith climbs up the school gates and drops himself to the other side.

The two guards—who’ve probably been working here for thousands of years—spot me.

Guards: “Oi, kid!”

They start yelling at me in Arabic, cussing me out.

I make a run for it once again.

Harith: “Wonder why these human beings are obsessed with cussing out my mere existence…”

Harith dashes out of their way and eventually disappears—without noticing. He’s just moving too quickly…

The guards stop in their tracks.

“Nope… we are never paid enough for shit like that.”

The guards simply go back to sleep.

Harith: “Now that’s what I call—”

Before I finish, I bump into a tall girl and fall backward.

I look up at the girl and notice she has long blue hair.

Harith: “Let me guess, you’re Syrian?”

Girl: “And what about it?”

Harith: “Oh yeah, nothing. Just explains why you dyed your hair blue.”

The girl doesn’t like my comment about her hair.

Girl: “And what are you? An Egyptian?”

Harith, in a “no shit” tone:

Harith: “We’re in Egypt.”

Girl: “YEAH, THAT DOESN’T MATTER. You just sound like your average Falah (a type of Egyptian from a farming bloodline) who grabs a small bowl and puts salt and pepper on it to add flavor to their food.”

Harith suddenly punches the girl square in the face, knocking her out.

Harith (angry): “Calling me a Falah wasn’t a good idea… Insulting me by it was even worse.”

Harith ignores the fallen girl and snaps out of it.

Harith: “Wait… my class was supposed to be D1?”

Harith quickly runs off to his class like a cartoon character.

The girl is left on the floor with a broken nose from the force of Harith’s punch.

The girl opens her eyes slowly.

Girl: “I’ll get him.. I’ll make sure of it..”

As Harith runs off. He quickly comes back.

Harith as he runs back next to the girl

Harith: “OH! It’s right there. Should pay more attention for real.”

As Harith is about to open the door. He can feel something really cold from his back.

The girl had gotten up and tried to backstab Harith.

As she is about to stab him. Harith quickly turns with his elbow and his elbow hits her already broken nose and she falls again.

As Harith turns: “Wait. I dropped my backpack.. And whatever cold behind me that was. It’s probably the breeze outside.”

The bell rings

Harith: “Let’s see.. Everyone’s gonna stare at me as if I committed adultery.”

Harith opens the door quietly to sneak into the class.

The teacher immediately notices Harith’s failed attempt on sneaking into his class.

Teacher: “So, mind telling me why you are late. Mr.Kharaba?”

Harith: “Uhh.. I was on my way to school and my mom called me and told me she’s pregnant. I then found out I was adopted.”

The whole class laughs at Hairth’s terrible excuse and banter.

The teacher takes a deep breath and sighs.

Teacher: “Take a seat. And minus 10 marks for lying and being late to class.”

Harith: “Yeah, sure.”

Harith knows the teacher is just trying to scare him so he doesn’t really give a damn.

Harith looks around at the new students and notice a friend of his.

I look at a familiar girl who has short, brown hair and freckles.

“That’s Amina!”

I yell out.

“YO!-“

The teacher quickly shushes me.

Teacher: “Shhhh.. Speak again and it’ll be minus 20!”

In my mind.

(Bro, I KNOW this guy doesn’t get paid enough to do something like that.)

I stay quiet. But the girl actually hears me and turns to me and does a cute, silly little wave.

Harith’s mind: “Wait.. Amina is NOT the type of girl to do this.”

Harith looks closely. It’s just another new student who happened to look like here. Harith leans his head slightly and notices the real Amina behind the other girl who looks familiar

Harith: “Oh, there we go.”

Harith: “Hmm.. say, Is it me, or is the atmosphere in this room muffled?”

Harith looks at some random guy next to him.

Guy: “Yeah, I actually agree. Also, what the hell is that blue ball next to you?”

Hairth turns to his side and sees a light blue, cold ball.

“Hmm.. wonder if we eat this thing..”

I tap the ball. It raises in the air by itself before it Explodes, sending dangerous needles down at the class.

Harith: “The hell..?

The ball that exploded sends blue needles that ricochet around until it hits something.

Harith takes a cover under the table.

The guy next to Harith gets stabbed. The stab gave him the effects of a frost bite.

Alot of people in the class actually just die.

Harith Looks at Amina

Harith: “She’ll suit herself.”

I see Amina (the short brown haired girl) use her ability to create a spectral blue, glowing shield that blocks every hit with it despite how sharp the needles are.

“Gotta worry about myself instead..”

Harith peeks out of the table to look at the ball that still didn’t stop.

Harith: “damn.. shit ain't stopping anytime soon, huh?”

Harith looks at the ground and sees an empty, plastic water bottle.

Harith: “Speaking of which. I think I know how to stop it.”

Harith grabs the plastic water bottle from the ground.

Then Harith twists the water bottle. Giving the upper part of the water bottle Pressure.

Harith: “Time to show my lil’ trick.”

Harith slides his finger against the water bottle’s cap. Undoing it by 50%.

Harith then charges the bottle with his own electricity power and then shoots a really fast and charged projectile at the deadly Blue sphere. Totally shattering and breaking it down.

Harith: “Just did a good deed..”

Harith looks again

Harith: “Not. These people got Knitted pretty well.”

I call for Amina.

Harith: “Yo! Amina! You good?

Harith walks up to her.

As he walks up to her. She slaps his face.

Amina: “HARITH! Why didn’t you save the guy next to you?! He was a good friend of mine!”

Harith: “WHAT?! How am I supposed to save this guy when all of a sudden I see a sphere that shoots needles that eats away at your skin from the intense coldness it has?!”

Harith: “And plus. We’re in the first hour of school. Aint no way you already made friends.”

Amina: “Yeah, you’re right. I just wanted a reason to give you a good morning slap.”

Harith stares at Amina speechless.

Harith: “Anyways. Where did that thing even come from?”

Amina: “.. I think it was Saryia Nada.”

Harith: “Yoooo! Love that “guy.””

He replies sarcastically.

Amina: “Guy? That’s a girl, dude.”

Harith: “Yeah. As if I know names in this goddamn school.”

Amina: “It’s the blue haired girl.”

Harith: “Oh, her? I just knocked her out-“

Harith points at the door. But her body had disappeared.

Harith’s eyes widen in surprise.

Harith: “What…?”

Amina: “Yeah, real funny. Doubt you could beat a rat in a fight.”

Harith notices a body like Sayria’s approaching.

Harith: “Yo, isn’t that her?”

He points

Amina: “Yeah.”

Harith quickly runs at her.

Yet Sayria doesn’t run away. She slowly approaches him like a robot.

Harith: “Wait. Why is she-“

Sayria’s body explodes into sharp ice shards.

Harith: “Oh shi-“

Amina quickly places a shield around both of them.

Amina: “I think you should be careful.”

Harith: “Sure, sure. Next time i’ll check if the person I am dealing with is a clone or not.”

He replies sarcastically.

Sayria speaks silently. As her actual self runs away.

“Fool.. I’d never approach you like that, that was just my illusion that I created from my abilities..”

Sayria speaks with a broken nose and a bloody forehead. She had ran outside of school and to Never be seen again after.
