Chapter 22:
A Solstice Love Song
What the hell were Darcy and Jet doing here? They likewise seemed surprised as our reaction was simply a back-and-forth.
“Blake?”
“Darcy?”
“Blake?”
“Jet?”
“Marco?”
“Hello Jet.”
“Marco?”
“Hello Darcy.”
Luca! I heard in my head, and only after hearing that, could I imagine Noah’s sad voice commenting on how everyone always forgets about him. But that was irrelevant. I had bigger things to think about.
“What are you two doing here?”
“I could say the same for you.” Darcy commented.
“You know why I’m here. You did my styling and everything.”
“You never told me where you were going.”
I had to think. I suppose I never did tell her I would be here. How could I when all I had was an address and no other information? I didn’t even know I would be coming here.
I sighed.
“Sorry, you’re right; I’m just surprised to see you both,” I replied.
“So you two are on a date?” Jet asked.
I suppose I never told him I was going out for the day. I kind of figured Darcy would mention it, though I guess I didn’t mention her date with Jet. I guess it was one of those days where the stars just aligned or something.
“Yep, and I’m guessing you are too?”
Before Jet could reply, Darcy spoke, having obviously read our lips.
“I’m just here taking my dog for a walk.”
Jet didn’t say anything, but he looked somewhat embarrassed. He shuffled about awkwardly, eyes fixed to the ground. The Jet, the tamer of women, the slayer of virgins, the womaniser himself, embarrassed.
I started cacking myself with laughter. I had to grip onto Marco’s arm; otherwise, I would have fallen over.
Jet looked mildly annoyed and appeared to be about to say something back, but Darcy shot him a look, and he began to whimper like a sad dog.
Her sheer dominance over him left me with a question I just had to know.
“I think I ask this on behalf of everyone,” not that anyone else was thinking it. “Jet, are you being pegged by Darcy?”
Jet didn’t say anything. The lack of denial was more than enough confirmation for me. But I wasn’t going to leave it there. I asked Darcy the same thing. She didn’t say anything, but her smile and wink did more than enough.
“So...” I commented, trying to break the awkward silence.
“So...” Jet mimicked.
“I suppose we can have a double date then,” Marco suggested. I was glad he suggested it. I thought the same thing, but I was worried Marco wouldn’t like it.
“Sounds good.”
We walked around for a bit as a group. Although I liked spending time with Darcy and maybe Jet—although that was still debatable—I also couldn’t help but feel a little worried. I kind of wanted to spend time alone with Marco.
After checking out the rest of the miniature countries, we wandered over to a cantina. Marco and Blake went off to get us some drinks while Darcy and I reserved the seats.
“How’s your date been?”
“It’s been good. Marco keeps spoiling me.” I blushed. “How’s yours been.”
“My puppy has mostly been well-behaved.”
I gave her a dirty look. “So you are enjoying your date?”
“Yes,” she smiled.
Jet and Marco returned with some glasses of fizzy drink. They placed them on the table, and I grabbed a lemonade, and Marco grabbed a lime drink. I expected Darcy and Jet to do the same, but instead, Darcy grabbed both the remaining glasses and stared directly at him.
“Paw?” she instructed.
Jet gave her his hand.
“Good boy. You may drink now.” She responded, handing him his drink before patting him on the head. I gave her another dirty look. She seemed to ignore me.
Some time passed, and it was almost closing time before we knew it. Jet and Darcy looked at each other before Jet commented.
“Well we may head off.”
“You going?” I asked to double-check.
“Yep, we want to see a bit more of the town.”
“Alright, well, I guess I’ll see you tonight.”
“Tell me everything” Darcy signed to me.
“I will if you do.”
“Do you really want to know?” Jet signed.
Fuck! How the hell did he learn that much sign language in such a short time? He must have had some intensive training from Darcy.
He proceeded to stick his tongue out at me. But as he did so, Darcy grabbed it and pulled it towards her. Jet fell to his knees, though she didn’t let up. Instead, she leaned in, letting go only when she gave him a big smooch. Jet looked surprised and slightly red-faced. He was panting as if Darcy had sucked the last of his breath out of him.
“I didn’t give you permission to speak.” she teased.
“He just responded with a “wolf.”
I shuddered. I can’t believe I actually felt sorry for Jet. I was planning to have a proper conversation about her and Jet, but now I was beginning to think I would have to change my warning about Jet to a warning of her own behaviour. After this heated scene, they promptly left.
It was just Marco and me alone.
“Your friends are quite the characters.”
“I suppose so,” I responded, showing signs of secondhand embarrassment.
“I’m glad you have wonderful people around you.”
“I would like to meet your friends one day,” I added, leaning in to rest my head on his shoulder.
“Sure, I look forward to it.”
He rested his hand on my cheek. At that moment, I felt I had to tell him how I felt.
“Marco, I love you.”
“I love you too.”
After that, we left together to head back to the hotel. As I went to bed, I had dreams of the day—the wonderful day. But I didn’t know the date would be the turning point in geopolitics that had slowly been bubbling, a situation that would try to keep Marco and me from seeing each other.
