Chapter 1:
Reverie
As a child, I was not very special. I lived out my life with my single-mom, Michelle Arco. She worked as a primary school teacher and enjoyed her job. While we lived very honest and quiet lives, my childish self wished to become a hero. I never new why I wanted to become such a silly thing, but it stuck with me, and I tried to do good for the community.
And yet something was wrong.
As I grew older, I started forgetting about being a hero. I just wanted to be someone. Someone who did something for the world. I felt like it was generic, but I would figure out myself in high school.
And yet someone was wrong.
I did not have much of a passion in sports or anything, so I had only one real friend, Aiden. Aiden was popular with girls probably because of his looks. He was not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he was nice. I never understood why we became friends, but he was a good friend. At the start of 9th grade, Aiden asked me to join the soccer team. I was not bad or neither good at the sport, but I had lots of fun. I studied for my classes so my grades were alright, and I was on track to some college. I felt like it was going all well.
And yet I was wrong.
I was so so wrong.
At 17, I joined the literature club because my mom begged me to. She claimed it would build skills to help for college. So I joined.
It was a hot day, July 9th. The sun burned bright while I strolled down the road. Some uneasy feeling climbed over me. I ignored it and thought it was because of the heat. I just got back from school and heard a shriek coming from the block ahead. I ran to see.
I saw it.
A body soaked in a rouge hue.
The hot air took away my words. I froze in place.
I saw another man next to me. He was the one crying for help.
I saw the police running for me.
"Put the knife down!" the policeman yelled at me.
"Offfficcccer- I- what- I did nothing sir..." I trembled in fear.
In that moment, I started running. I did not know what impulse told me to do it... but I ran.
"COME BACK!!!" the policeman shrieked as he started to chase after me.
I could not comprehend what was happening. I did nothing wrong. Until I saw in my hand, a knife. My hand was clenching it, and it dripped of hot sticky blood.
I dropped to my knees and the officer grabbed me. Right before I was taken into the car, I saw at the corner of my eyes 2 figures.
It was probably because of my shock, but regardless, I was sure I saw my mom and Aiden watching with a grin growing on their faces.
In that moment in time, the world paused and I blanked out.
