Chapter 19:

Chapter 19

Love Beyond Worlds

When we arrived outside, a battle raged on. A duo were in the middle of battling the T-Rex from before. They weren't just fighting the T-Rex, though.

“Die, you dumb lizards!” The girl shot a magic beam straight at the group of six-legged lizards. This world had a lot of six-legged monsters for some reason. It looks really weird.

Some of them managed to escape death by leaping away in time. The less unfortunate ones evaporated in front of my eyes.

“Ah…”

The magic strikes were dazzling, beautiful.

“...”

“It- It’s pretty, that’s all! Nothing more!” Just because magic attacks are pretty, that didn’t make me think any less of Elerina. Not in the slightest. Not far from that girl stood a boy who ran around the T-Rex, keeping its attention on him.

“You take any longer and we'll be minced meat!”

“I'm trying, okay!? So shut up and do your job!”

“Oh, I am trying, alright!”

The two were yelling at each other, but they were grinning. It looked as if they're enjoying this.

“... Shouldn't we help?” I asked after realizing Elerina had stopped moving.

“... Should we?”

“I think we should, but your call.”

If we got involved with the wrong person, the one to suffer from it is Elerina, so I let her make the choice.

And she made the conscious choice of not dealing with those two.

“I'm cancelling the quest.”

“Hey! Help us!”

Their voices appeared through the action camera. The boy was the one that shouted, still running around the T-Rex.

Elerina let out a sigh and shot forward. Her target wasn't the T-Rex, but the smaller lizards by its side. Like lightning, she slices through several lizards at a time. It didn’t take her a lot of effort to split them into two. Realizing she no longer needed to deal with the lizards, the girl switched targets and struck the T-Rex instead.

Once the lizards had all been killed, Elerina switched, and all three of them pounded on the T-Rex. The girl struck the T-Rex repeatedly with her spells. Each strike dealt a massive amount of damage, evident from the blood pouring out of the T-Rex. Whenever the T-Rex turned to her, Elerina and the boy would jump in and break its agro. It took a while, but the mighty beast fell at last.

“Hehe, see that? Now that's what I call power,” the girl said proudly while pointing to herself.

“Heh, you would be dead if I didn't protect you.”

As they squabbled, Elerina tried slipping away, but unfortunately, these two had keen eyes.

“Thanks for the help. Can't believe my partner here couldn't even handle a couple of lizards.”

“Maybe I should have thrown you in as bait.”

“Haha…”

In truth, she did most of the work when it came to attacking the monsters. The lizard probably had some kind of magic shield on them, resulting in her magic not being as effective.

“Anyway, I'm Angen Mirtorr, nice to meet you,” The girl introduced herself. She had short brown hair decorated with pretty accessories. cat-like ears appearing from the top of her head suggested her felink heritage.

“And I’m Memorus Hereboir,” the boy said. He had long straight blue hair. There was no defining feature on him, so I assumed he was a human.

Their names are certainly… unique, but I should expect that since we came from different worlds.

“I’m Elarina Monterez Tera Kore, thank you for your help.”

“Why do I feel like I’ve heard that name before,” Memorus cocked her head.

“Our help…?” Meanwhile, Angen focused on a different matter.

“That dinosaur is my target.”

“Oh, finders keepers, then?”

Elerina pulled out the paper the guild gave her and signed on it, then handed it over to the two.

“Don’t mind if I do.” Angen snatched the paper off Elerina. Now that we had finished our quest, it’s time to return and grab another one, or so I thought.

“See you.” Elerina waved and turned around, about to walk away, when Memorus called out to her.

“Wait, you’re from the elven noble family, aren’t you?”

Elerina stopped in her tracks. She glanced behind her, her left arm already on the sword’s hilt. “Yes, why?”

“You’re a noble!? Wow!” Angen leaped closer. She observed Elerina from all sides, while her partner tried reeling her back.

“So- Sorry for being rude, Madam!”

“What are you- hmpf!”

“Shut up for a sec!”

Elerina let go of the sword and turned around to face the two. She folded her hands, a serious gaze in her eyes.

“So, what did you want? I’ve already given you my quest, haven't I?” The way she spoke reminded me of when we first met. Given her position, it’s natural that she felt wary of any stranger she met.

“Return it!” Memorus scolded.

“Ain’t no way! I worked hard for this!” Angen hissed.

Elerina’s expression was a mix of suspicion and confusion.

“Just take it, you did most of the work.”

To be fair, Elerina also did a lot. Had she not killed all those lizards, these two would be overwhelmed. This isn’t just my biased opinion. They really did look like they’re struggling with the numbers.

“If that’s all, then I’ll be heading out.”

“Ma- Madam!”

“Just call me Elerina. My title no longer means anything.”

“Elerina… that’s too long,” Angen pouted. “I’ll call you Ellen instead.”

“El- Ellen?”

Do felinks call each other by nicknames?

“Angen, that’s rude.”

“Eh… It’s not, right Ellen?”

Elerina- pfft, or so I should say, Ellen, looked dumbfounded. She came from a culture that considered nicknames an insult, but the true insult probably came from Angen downright ignoring her. She was completely speechless.

“Ugh…”

“Where are you going, if I may know?”

The question snapped Elerina back to the conversation. “Nuversyevik.”

“Oh wow, this must be fate! We’re heading toward that area as well, want to come with us?”

“Umm…”

“We’re going there by magic carriage, it’ll be much faster.”

After some careful consideration, Elerina nodded. “Alright.”

Using her magic, Angen called a carriage over. This one didn’t have any horses pulling it. Its top was covered by tarp, so not the luxurious kind, either. It would still be better than walking. Elerina hopped onboard. Angen sat upfront, while her partner sat in the carriage with Elerina.

“Alright, time to go.”

The carriage began moving along. It drove down the road at around ten kilometers per hour, a rough guess based on how fast the scenery passed by. It felt slower compared to Elerina’s run, but it was still faster than walking, and she couldn’t run all the time to preserve her strength.

“I’ve been meaning to ask, but what are all those things on you?”

“Eyes on the road, Angen.”

“Oh, shut up.”

Elerina pointed to the action camera on her helmet. “This?”

She then glanced my way. I thought about an explanation that could convince them.

“How about ‘a magic device that boosts movements’?”

We wouldn't want them to know of my existence. It should be easier to explain in her world, thanks to the unknowns of magic, but bad things might happen if they knew. Thus, it's better if they remained in the dark.

“This is a magic device that boosts my movement.”

“Ah, that's one interesting thing. Mind if I try it?”

“So- sorry, it works only on me.”

“Aww, too bad…”

“You can get your own.”

“Gosh, you're so annoying.”

Now that she couldn't move, I used this chance to get my tasks done. But there's just one issue.

“I had a meeting in half an hour.”

One of our classes required us to work together on a project, and we would use this call to discuss the specifics. That of itself wouldn't be an issue. I attended meetings with Elerina by my side before. The thing is.

“Ellen, what's your favorite color?”

“Ummm…”

Angen is a talkative one. She bombarded Elerina with question after question. My wife clearly didn't speak a lot with her types of people, as she constantly seemed at a loss. She looked toward Memorus for help, but the boy had fallen asleep.

“Well, he isn't one for staying up,” Angen said, looking back at her partner.

“... Aren't you supposed to look forward?”

“Eh, no biggie…”

Elerina turned to me, her eyes asking for help. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone named help, nor do I have any I could provide. I didn't even exist in her world, how could I help?

“Just say you want to get off? You just remembered there's somewhere you need to be?”

She tried saying that, but…

“Where do you need to go? I'll get you there.”

“Umm…”

“Don't you have any experience entertaining people before?”

I figured, as a noble's daughter, she should have had to entertain guests, speak with high-ranking people, or do other stuff a noble is expected to do.

Elerina sharpened her gaze. She couldn't say anything, as doing so would only make her look crazy. Her glare didn't last long, however.

“Oh, by the way, you brought so little things. Top adventurers are a different breed, huh?”

She could only open and close her mouths a couple times as she looked for her words.
