Chapter 9:
How My Guardian Angel Became My Boyfriend?
“ There you are! I thought you were never going to show up. What took you so long? “
“ What’s the meaning of this? “
Kaito asked as he flew toward Christopher, who suddenly made his wings disappear before spreading his arms in midair.
Confused, Kaito asked, “ What are you on about now? What are you doing? “
“ Go ahead, Kaito! I promise not to budge. “
?
“ What are you waiting for? Go ahead! “
Staring at Christopher, Kaito said, “ What pleasure would I gain by beating you up? I’m not that childish. “
Surprised, he asked, “ You’re not angry for what I did to you after I almost ruined your relationship with Sakura Fambrose-San? You’re simply going to forgive me just like that? “
—
“ Why did you do it? “
“ What? “
“ I heard from Fluffy that you’ve always been envious of me. Is that true? “
He inquired from Christopher, who admitted before him as follows: “ Why did she have to tell you when I did my best to hide it? “
Listening to the tone in which he responded, Kaito then said, “ You’re not denying it, so it’s true? “
“ Yeah, you’re right, Kaito. “ He nodded affirmatively. “ I’ve always been envious of the fact that you never seemed to give up, no matter what hardships came your way. The more you went after what you wanted, the more pissed and irritated I got. Can you imagine how infuriating that is? “
—
“ If you were so pissed off, you should have come to me instead of making a fool of yourself. “ He uttered softly and straightly added, “ Had you done that, I would have admitted that you weren’t the only one who was feeling so blue. “ He concluded, giving room for interpretation.
Looking at him with a confused expression across his face, Christopher couldn’t help but say, “ Are you trying to infer that you felt the same thing I did? How is that possible? You must be lying to me right now, aren’t you? “
Gazing at his stern expression, he asked, “ Why would you have been envious of me, Kaito? I don’t understand. “
Sighing, Kaito simply said to the question, “ Because of your perfection. “
“ My what? “
Whereas, in the library, Camille and Sakura were currently having a conversation about a potential partnership.
“ Repeat what you just said a moment ago, Green-San! “
Nervously, Camille uttered before Sakura for the second time, “ Using your superb drawings and my narrative, would you partner up with me to create a manga together? “
To the repeated question, Sakura remained silent for a long while. With all kinds of thoughts going through her mind at once, Sakura asked sternly, “ Why me? “
“ What? “ Camille expressed her confusion.
“ For this project of yours, why did you think of me? “ Sakura asked straightforwardly to Camille, who answered without an ounce of hesitation, “ That’s because you’re the only one who can make my narrative come to life, Fambrose-San. “
Joining them later on were Kaito and Christopher, who didn’t understand the tension between the two.
The only thing they heard when they arrived was, “ I’ll think about it, but you shouldn’t get your hopes up. “
Standing up, Sakura left the library. It was at that moment that Camille noticed Kaito’s presence and got startled as she recalled Sakura’s identical drawing.
Going after Sakura, Christopher said, noticing the expression Camille was giving him. “ That was Kaito, and just like me, He’s also a guardian angel. To be more precise, he’s Sakura Fambrose’s guardian angel. “
Hours later, at home, Sakura kept thinking of Camille’s proposal over and over while holding her sketchbook in her hand.
“ What are you doing, Sakura? Is there something on your mind? “
Startling her was Kaito, who was staring at her sketchbook and noticed her recent drawing.
“ You made another drawing of me? “ He uttered before adding soon after, “ You've got immense talent, Sakura. “
—
Hearing his thoughts, Sakura couldn’t help but think of Camille’s words yet again and said, “ Drawing is just a hobby for me. It’s not that extraordinary to be able to draw this well. “
Closing her sketchbook, she left for her room. Picking it up and opening it again, Kaito mumbled, “ You don’t draw this good if it’s just a hobby, Sakura. What exactly are you afraid of? “
Throughout the night, Sakura could barely sleep. Leaving her room to go get a drink of water in the kitchen, she mumbled, “ Me, draw a manga? Impossible! I don’t see myself in that line of work. “
In the days that followed, Sakura avoided Camille the best she could whenever she ran into her.
Keeping that up, a whole week went by until one day, Camille trapped her at the exit, making her efforts to run away futile.
“ Fambrose-San, why do you keep avoiding me? “ She hurled. “ Have I done something wrong? “
—
Walking toward her and stopping before her, she uttered, “ It’s not you, but me. “
Accentuating her words, she said, “ I don’t think I can help you with what you want to do. I’m not the right person to ask this. I’m very sorry, but I seriously think you should approach someone else who will be able to better visualize your ideas. “
Walking past her, Camille suddenly grabbed her by the wrist, making her unable to move. Forcefully returning her to her original spot, their gazes met once more, and Camille said, “ I can’t believe that you didn’t feel it. You’re lying, Fambrose-San! You felt it too, didn’t you? “
Remaining silent, Camille continued. “ The same feeling I felt when I gazed upon your drawing, you felt the same when you read my narrative, didn’t you? Try telling me otherwise, Fambrose-San! “
“ Why are you denying me so strongly? “ She asked before forwarding, “ Are you against the idea of partnering with me, or is it that you’re scared of something? “
!!!
“ Scared? “
Surprising herself as she pronounced the word, Sakura broke free of Camille’s grasp and ran away as if her life depended on it.
Watching her from afar, Camille mumbled, “ Fambrose-San, are you actually scared of something? “
Recalling Camille’s words at home, Sakura tried getting her mind off things by reading the latest volume of “ Featured Dreams. “
Gazing at the beautiful drawings, she was surprised, “ How great would it be if I could draw as amazingly as Zero-San? “
— “ What did I just say? “
The following day, Kaito found Sakura grasping her sketchbook tightly. Before he could ask her anything relevant, she said, startling him, “ Could you stand still for a moment? “
Doing as he was told, Kaito remained immobile while Sakura made a quick sketch of him from various angles.
After the tenth sketch she made of him, she asked, “ Could you sit down now? “
Following her instructions, Sakura was able to make all sorts of sketches of him. At the end, she grinned when she looked at the finished work.
Standing up, she thanked Kaito for the help provided before running toward her room and shutting her door.
In the week that followed, Sakura would always call it a night right after finishing dinner. Unable to see her much, Kaito couldn’t help but wonder about what could have been taking up her time.
One day, however, Christopher joined him in the school yard. Not noticing him for once, Christopher asked, “ What’s wrong with you today? You don’t look like yourself. Did something happen between you two? “
Gazing at Christopher as if on the verge of crying, he said, “ Sakura is avoiding me. Do you think I did something to make her mad at me? “
“ She’s avoiding you? “
Surprised at what Kaito was telling him, Christopher said, “ First, she avoided Camille, and now you. Could it be the same issue? “
Recalling her request a few days earlier, Kaito said, “ I don’t think that’s it. “
“ What do you mean? “
Explaining himself, he said, “ A few days ago, she made sketches of me. While she was sketching me, I could spot it in her eyes— “
“ Spot what? “
“ It was something I had never seen before. I can’t explain exactly what it was I saw, but it was twinkling brightly. “ He concluded with a slight grin.
Listening to him speak, Christopher emphasized as follows, “ Maybe she’s busy with something. That might explain why it looks as if she’s avoiding you. It could be that she doesn’t even realize that she’s doing it, don’t you think? “
“ You might be right. “ Kaito agreed with his explanation.
“ It was nice letting out my feelings. “ He said, additionally, concluding with, “ Thanks for listening to me, Chris. “
“ Chris? “
Before he could react, Kaito had vanished. Mumbling by himself, he said, “ He hadn’t called me that for a very long time. I wonder what got into him suddenly. “
Days later, at the Fambrose Residence, Sakura hurled, “ Done. Finally, I’m done. “
Walking out of her room, she found Kaito sulking in a corner of the room.
“ What are you doing? “
!!!
“ Sakura, you startled me! “
“ What were you doing there, Kaito? “ She asked once more, to which he responded, “ I was enjoying myself as you’re so busy these days. “
Revealing his thoughts aloud, Sakura gasped, “ Were you lonely? “
Gasping as he realized what had just gone across his mouth, he stood and furtively moved backwards. “ This wasn’t what I meant, Sakura. Forget everything you’ve just heard! “
Attempting to run away, she caught him by the wrist. Startled, Kaito reacted, “ Sakura, would you please let go? “
In response to his pleading, Sakura hypothetically asked, “ What if I said no? What will you do, Kaito? “
