Chapter 19:
The Prince of the Otherworld becomes a Highschool Student
The scarlet eyes of Iscodaya opened themselves, groggily staring at the roof. He lazily moved around his bed before forcing himself to stand. He exited his room and passed through a hallway with four empty bedrooms. But as he went down some stairs, he saw three people in the living room.
His older brother, Daranya was making food in the kitchen, wearing the uniform of his part-time job. Senodaya was waiting on the table, fixed on his phone playing games, “Fix your uniform Seno,” Iscodaya remarked as the boy buttoned up his clothes.
“Morning,” greeted Kaus as he patiently waited for the food. Iscodaya let out a murmur as Daranya brought in what he was cooking. It had been about four months since Daranya and Senodaya had arrived on Earth, with Iscodaya and Kaus nearing a year.
Due to the four of them living in a small apartment, Serioth gave the four extra money to rent a bigger one. To help around with gathering information, Daranya became a zookeeper; due to his love of animals and wildlife but also learning about them and all the different species. Due to Senodaya’s age, Iscodaya and Kaus forbide him to work, so instead he became a middle-school student.
But for highschool, Iscodaya and Kaus had been fitting in perfectly. Kaus’s popularity had gone down as expected, but he was still very popular; he had also won a kendo tournament he entered with Yuuma. But for Iscodaya, he had become the top academic student of his grade; his popularity, rising due to some changes.
Notely his appearance, for he decided to wear his Princely hair style, and ditch the glasses. His attitude also became slightly better, for he wasn’t glaring at everyone now. And he let himself laugh a lot more.
So as the two walked through the halls of their school, a lot more people were looking at Iscodaya, a fact he didn’t really like. But he bore it. As the two entered their classroom, they saw their group of friends. Yusuke and Kaus exchanged a secret handshake while Iscodaya and Yuuma talked about a video game they played yesterday.
But as Iscodaya made it to his seat, a hand came over his eyes, “Guess who it is?” A familiar voice remarked. The boy scoffed as he removed the hands and turned around.
“Someone who can’t even hit the shuttlecock correctly,” Iscodaya responded as he saw her face. Brown eyes, black, medium-length hair, and a beautiful face, one, who was currently giving him the stinkeye.
“It was one mistake, only one,” Kei retorted as she reached out to pinch Iscodaya for mentioning her fail yesterday.
“Doesn’t matter, you still made us lose,” he added while defending himself from her attack. But as they calmed down, and peace was made between the two, they began to talk about various subjects. But deep inside, Iscodaya thinking about something, “This dense girl I swear,” he remarked inside his mind, “I even changed my appearance to make her notice me more, instead she just teases me.”
Iscodaya Kousa, second Prince of Phirines, and a Prince that had never accepted a marriage invitation by any nation in Eon. But for the first time in the sixteen years of his life, he had fallen in love, with none other than an Earthling.
Iscodaya listened as Kei talked and talked, he was a master at hiding his true feelings, so nobody looking in realized. Except he wanted someone to know, only one person, “Yeah, me and Rin were just walking around, then we actually got cat called by some students from another school. It was very weird to be honest.”
Iscodaya nodded, as he agreed and even felt defensive. But his mouth then suddenly spewed out some unexpected words, “Yeah, they are weird, but I do see what they are talking about.” Iscodaya gritted his teeth in anticipation, his heart was beating faster than before.
But then, Kei nodded, “Yeah, Rin is a very cute, I often have to tell people off when she becomes too uncomfortable.” Hearing her reply, Iscodaya got a bit angry at Kei for not taking the hint, so he added to his earlier statement.
“I’m talking about you as well, you might also need someone to tell people off when they make you uncomfortable,” yet again Iscodaya’s heartbeat rose, as he covered his cheeks behind his hands to hide his slight blush.
“Uhh, I really don’t need that, I just tell them off rip,” Kei airheadedly replied, causing a defeated Iscodaya to deflate, putting his head down on his wooden desk, “Huh? What’s gotten into you.” Seeing that he was upset with something, Kei tried to cheer Iscodaya up. She first poked his cheek a few times, then made a funny face, but when that wasn’t working, she also put her head on her desk, then turned to Iscodaya.
“What are you doing?” The boy asked.
“Cheering you up,” Kei pointedly replied. Iscodaya felt a rush of blush swell up to his cheeks, as he turned the otherway to hide it, “What’s wrong,” Kei asked, her worry evident.
“...You’re… cute, when you act like this,” Iscodaya whispered, loud enough for Kei to hear. A few seconds of silence came over the two. But then, Iscodaya’s face was grabbed and was forced to face Kei. And as the two stared at each other, Iscodaya saw the seriousness in her eyes. And he thought that it was finally happening, she finally knew.
“Iscodaya… you’re still cuter.” All hope left Iscodaya’s eyes as he was so close to just saying it outright, but his pride wouldn’t let him. He removed Kei’s grip of his face as he yet again put his head down on his table.
But then he heard some approaching footsteps, “What’s going on here?” The voice of Yusuke called out. Iscodaya almost rolled his eyes as he knew Kei enough for her reactions.
“O-oh Yusuke, didn’t see you there,” Kei stammered, making Iscodaya grimace, “Iscodaya’s upset with something, I don’t know the reason though.”
“Because you’re so dense,” Iscodaya recited inside his mind.
“Yo bro, what’s wrong?” Yusuke asked out of genuine concern, causing Iscodaya to look up at him.
He tried to think of an excuse to say, “...I’m still upset with Yuuma how he lost us the game yesterday, also at a certain someone who made me lose again, but in the physical world this time.” Hearing this, Kei whipped her head back at Iscodaya.
“You’re still on that?” She asked genuinely.
But after hearing his reasoning, Yusuke nodded, “I see, well your problem with Kei, that’s yours to settle, but for you, I’ll personally tell Yuuma off.” Yusuke walked off, as Iscodaya saw him start to make fun of Yuuma.
But then his gaze went to Kei, her face finally letting out a bit of blush. The sight of it made him roll his eyes, “Do you think he noticed?” Kei asked as she tried to hide the redness of her cheeks.
Iscodaya stared at her plainly. “Did you notice?” he asked sarcastically. Kei turned to him and shook her head in confusion. Internally, Iscodaya was fuming. “YOU KNOW FULL WELL THE SIGNS OF SOMEONE IN LOVE!! WHY CAN’T YOU SEE ME?!” His thoughts screamed.
But as the bell rang, and Kei had to go back to her seat, Iscodaya tried to forget the topic as he calmed his mind and started to solve equations. But unbeknownst to the Prince, someone else was watching him and Kei, someone who knew him more than Kei, and someone who knew his true feelings for the Earthling.
So as Iscodaya started to note down the things on the board, Kaus was side eyeing him, before also going to his books.
