Prologue: The Beginning of the Champions

Clear skies. Few clouds. It was a perfect day. I was sitting on the hill not that far from town. I didn’t think much of it. Until the noise came from the town square. Everyone seemed so interested, for whatever reason. 

“Nia! There you are! Come on, there’s something happening!” yelled Shila, my best friend since forever. We were always together, and inseparable. 

“Do you know anything about that?” I replied. She raced towards me, and out of breath, said, “New *huff* champions *gasp* today,” she puffed.

“New champions? But… there hasn’t been any in a million years! How could there be?” I asked, confused by Shila’s response. 

“Idon’tknowhurryupcomeon!” she said, running off again. I ran after her trying to keep up. As we ran down the hill, I could see the mayor standing on the well, trying to quiet everyone to make a speech. We ran up to the crowd and pushed our way forward.

“Everyone, please settle down,” the mayor shouted, and all went silent. 

“I know you all have heard about the message sent from the tombs of  the former champions. The guards of the graves have told me that they have a message for all of us. Today, some chosen ones will become new wielders of the Elements,” she replied, which sent awe and excitement though the crowd.

“You were right,” whispered to Shila. I couldn’t believe it. New champions would rise! 

“Of course I was! You think I would fool you? I heard the messengers talking about it on their way here!” she whispered confidently. And just as she finished, clouds crowded over the sky, and a beam of light showed through a gap. And suddenly, all of the gods descended.
