Chapter 18:
The other side of the end
The research center was actively preparing for the launch of the time pillars. Inside the pillars, they placed the tihirax, which they obtained on an artificial island, and performed calculations of how much the time compass would need to be moved to find itself at the most optimal point in time.
The main team, which consisted of Kelis, Lien, Tera, Axel and Eirk, spent hours in the room with the time pillars. Not far from them, Sena sat and watched to see if they were doing everything according to plan.
- “So how do we proceed? How far will we move the Earth?” - Lien asked.
- “To avoid the possible negative impact of the Rebirth, which may remain after it… And also, considering how long it takes for the universe to take shape for the normal existence of the planet and all life on it, we need to move one billion years,” - Tera said.
- “That's what we initially thought,” - Axel said.
- “So you changed your mind?” - Lien asked.
- “Yes. In a billion years, the Sun will not exist yet. And without it, the temperature of the Earth will drop to minus two hundred degrees. The whole planet will simply freeze,” - Axel added.
- “So, we will focus on the time when the Sun should appear approximately. And this is in about nine billion years,” - Lien said.
- “Yes, but not later, because we will need to take into account the threats that appear over time,” - Kelis said.
- “For example?” - Lien asked.
- “Our Sun will destroy our Earth in five billion years. Of course, we cannot know that in the new world the Sun will repeat its fate exactly. Just as we cannot deny that in the new world the Sun will sooner or later become a threat to us. We would like to give our planet more time in the new world,” - Kelis answered.
- “So we’ll take that and it’ll be about ten billion years. That’s how far we’ll need to travel,” - Lien said.
- “Yes. That’s how far we’ll turn the time compass,” - Tera said.
Lien looked thoughtfully at the time pillars.
- “Have you heard that rumors about our project are becoming more and more widespread?” - Lien asked.
- “There was even an entire article about it in the newspaper recently,” - Tera added.
- “Have you read what people think about it?” - Lien asked.
Everyone stopped thoughtfully and sadly and stopped working. They were distracted by Lien’s question. Lien looked at everyone present in surprise.
- “Did you read it too?” - Lien asked.
- “We are all interested in what others think about it. After all, we did not ask them if they agreed with our project. We decided alone that it would be better for humanity to launch the time pillars,” - said Kelis.
Lien thought.
- “But the Ark project did exactly the same. They did not ask people if they agreed with the project. They simply chose it,” - said Lien.
- "Be that as it may, there are some people who disagree with him. And this is not surprising. After all, among them there are those who got on the Ark and will already be saved. There are relatives of those who got on the Ark and do not want to risk their salvation. There are also those who will not get on the Ark, and whose relatives are not there. But they do not like what we have planned either. This means that we have taken on the role of gods, which we are not, and began to decide how the fate of humanity should turn out. Whether it is salvation for the entire planet, or death for everyone," - added Kelis.
- "However, we are already changing history," - added Axel.
Everyone looked at Axel.
- “Remember Kelis, what you saw in the future. Those protests, civil wars, and that capture of the ark that was supposed to be organized soon. All of that is gone,” - Axel said.
Kelis thought about Axel’s words.
- “The impact of this project on history can already be seen. All that remains is to launch it and see if it works as it should,” - Axel said.
Kelis waited a few seconds and answered Axel and the others in the room.
- “Well, we’ll see if we were right soon… I think that’s enough work for today. I don’t want to see anyone in this building tonight. Go home, spend time with your family. Do what you love, and remember why you want this world to live so much. And I’ll meet you the day after tomorrow. Let’s launch this project!” - Kelis said.
Everyone looked at Kelis with a slight smile, and then at each other. Only Sena did not smile and sat to the side with a cold look, watching everyone.
At this very moment, an unknown person who was hiding on the other side of the room and listening to everything that was said there, left the room, having heard everything she needed. The only thing that was known about this person at this moment was the purple laces on the boots that this person was wearing.
After a hard day, the whole team went home. They did everything as Kelis advised them. These people forgot about the project for a day, and completely devoted themselves to their lives outside the research center. They spent time with their families, at the table, playing baseball with the children, tidying up the apartment, painting the room, mowing the lawn, watching TV, shopping at the store and dozens of other everyday things as if these were ordinary days. As if the day after tomorrow they did not have to work on an important project.
However, no matter how much they were distracted, one way or another, each of them had a moment that brought them back to the project. Someone was distracted by the sky, which was glowing with the approaching Rebirth. Someone was distracted by the newspaper or TV, which told about the Ark or the mysterious project to move the Earth in time. And some were returned by people who walked with blank looks from disbelief in the future, because they were not lucky enough to get on the Ark project and they do not want and are not going to believe in the rumors about the project that will save the entire Earth.
All these moments forced the team to consciously return to the project, and to understand what an important and difficult task they all face.
