Chapter 8:

Peace end Quick

Hope never lost

As the decision was postponed, the Rangers went back to their usual duties, and the expedition group also went back to their investigation, as Ms. Shaman was also hard at work to make the best case possible before the trial day came. As one week passed, all were working hard in their respective jobs.

“I have a proposition, how about we take a more pacific route and send over some from the expedition group and-” Ms. Shaman was saying as she interrupted herself from rehearsing.

Back to her desk, and sat down as she got more paper and started writing.

“I must make a better and convincing case. I only have a week left,” said Shaman as she started jotting down new ideas in a notebook beside her.

Two guards are stationed far from Ms. Shaman's office at the settlement's entrance, performing their routine.

“I'm so tired.” Said one of the guards as he yawned.

“Seriously, Thomas, did you not get enough sleep this night?” Said the other guard.

“I have told you about this before, Yuza. I have so much trouble sleeping.” Said Thomas.

Yuza sighed, got closer, and took a small digital recorder out of his bag, and handed it to Thomas.

“No way you have a digital recorder, where were you able to get this?” Said Thomas, surprised as he was inspecting it.

“Well, actually, one of my friends is in the expedition group, and he found it in one of the expeditions he found it, but he didn't have any use for it, so he gave it to me.” Said Yuza.

“That's so cool, bro,” said Thomas as he was about to get it back.

“Oh no, you could keep it. Some songs in it are pretty calming. They might be good for your sleep.” Said Yuza.

“Wait, really? Oh, thank you so much, Yuza.” Said Thomas as he pressed play and the first song started playing.

“That first song is pretty soothing. I have repeated it many times. It talks about a person walking through the desert.” Said Yuza as the song was playing.

“Yeah, you're right, the melody is so smooth.” Said Thomas as he tried to imagine the lyrics of the songs.

“Wow, I could even imagine it with my eyes open.” Said Thomas.

“Haha, what are you even talking about?” Said Yuza with a small chuckle.

“A silhouette of a man walking towards us.” Said Thomas.

“Ok, now you're just imagining too much,” said Yuza as he looked forward and was surprised by what he saw.

A person is walking towards them.

“Stop the music, you're not imagining someone is coming closer.” Said Yuza loudly.

“Oh shoot, seriously, do you think the music attracted him?” Said Thomas, surprised as he put away the digital recorder, and both of them put their weapons up in a defensive mode.

“What no!” exclaimed Yuza

As the figure got closer, the guards were able to see that this man was seriously injured and was limping on one leg.

“Please state who you are and if you are here for the digital recorder, I am not giving it away, my friends gave it to me.” Shouted Thomas.

“What are you saying? he is not here for the digital recorder!” Exclaimed Yuza as he tried to inspect the man from afar.

“Wait, Thomas look he has a raider badge, they're one of us take him in immediately!” said Yuza as he took in the injured man closer to the gate, the injured man handed over a paper that he had on him before letting out his last breath Yuza took the paper and read it.

“Hey Yuza, what does it say?” Said Thomas with curiosity.

Yuza's face showed how stunned he was by what he read as he looked at Thomas. When two more guards can by to assist, Yuza spoke.

“You call the doctors and bring this man in, see if we have a chance a reviving him.” Said Yuza to one of the guards as he left running.

“Alarm the head of Raiders and the head of Expedition because our chief has spoken.” Said Yuza to the other guard as he also ran away to inform.

Meanwhile, in the office, the door immediately opens, and Ms. Shaman's secretary speaks to her.

“Ms. Shaman, there is an emergency!” exclaimed the secretary.

Ms. Shaman stood up immediately from her desk.

“A letter from Mr. Hitman,” said the secretary.

“What?” exclaimed Ms. Shaman in surprise

As the scene shifts towards the inside of a department store, Touma is there to obtain some items for the house.

“So, thinking about fixing the house a bit.” Said the clerk.

“Yup, this morning Alice ran straight into the wall, and the pieces of the wall started falling off.” Said Touma, putting his hand on his forehead.

“Damn, I would have never noticed she would have hurts herself.” Said the clerk as he looked at Alice walking around the store.

“She walked it out fine, but the wall didn’t, so now I'm worried about the house.” Said Touma.

“Ha, ha, alright, I'll see what I can get you.” Said the clerk.

“Thanks so much, Mr. Thompson.” Said Touma.

Mr. Thompson went to the back end, came back with some things in his hand.

“Well, Touma, I can leave you with these basic things, but if you need any other things, just come to me.” Said Mr. Thompson.

“Ok, thanks, Mr. Thompson.” Said Touma when Alice came up to him with a small dress in her hand of the size of a toddler.

“Daddy, can we get this?” Asked Alice.

“What? But you don't even fit in that.” Said Touma.

“It's not for me, it's for Ms. Bear.” Said Alice as Touma remembered that Ms. Bear is the name that Alice put to the toy Bear he gave her when he found her.

“Really.” Said Touma.

“Please.” Said Alice as she tried to convince Touma, hugging the dress tightly.

Touma sighed and directed himself to Mr. Thompson again.

“Can I also get that?” said Touma, pointing to the small clothing Alice was holding.

“Ha, ha, ha, Sure, why not?” Said Mr. Thompson.

“Thank you!” said Alice, waving around the small clothing.

“Thanks,” said Touma as he turned to leave with Alice when he opened the door of the store, someone suddenly stopped and ran straight to him.

Touma, Touma, finally found you. I was running all over, looking for you.” Said Sarah.

“What's the matter?” Said Touma

The Head of Rangers and the Head of Expedition just called for a meeting again, and Ms. Shaman is calling for you.” Said Sarah as she breathed heavily from all that running.

“What? But the two weeks haven't passed.” Said Touma and us surprised.

Touma immediately went to Lucy's house and knocked on the door, and Lucy answered.

“What's wrong, Toma? You look like you're in a hurry,” said Lucy.

“There's another meeting. Can I please leave Alice here with you?” Requested Touma.

“Sure, no problem.” Said Lucy.

“Thank you, Lucy.” Said Toma as he left Alice with Lucy and ran towards where the meeting place was going to be held.
