Chapter 7:

The spy

Kitty's neighborhood

Kitty's mind was preoccupied with Niki; her behavior had caught her attention. But now wasn't the time to dwell on it—she had work to do. She wanted to sleep, but there were tasks at hand. Mila had gone to Margaret's house, Luna was off searching for Timmy, and the twins' mother was washing clothes in the yard.

Kitty got to work: she placed milk on the table for each member, prepared some sausages and cold cuts, and retrieved the dried fish Lucy had given her from its hiding spot. Then she went to help the twins' mother, and when they finished, they returned to the house.

Upon seeing the spread, the twins' mother asked in surprise, "What's all this for?"

Kitty replied, "I have a surprise."

Just then, the others arrived. They glanced at the food and asked, "Kitty, are you throwing a party? What's going on?"

Kitty shrugged nonchalantly and said, "In two days, we're all going to Mila's party."

Mila looked at Kitty curiously and asked, "Where?"

Kitty said, "At Shooper and his team's place. We're going to marry off Luna."

Luna choked on her food and started coughing. Mila let out a small scream, and simultaneously, everyone exclaimed, "Kitty!"

Kitty stood up, paced around the room, looked at Luna, then at each of the others, and said, "We need a spy to get rid of them, and Luna, with her innocent face, can solve the problem. Besides, she already knows Fred."

Mila interjected, "If they find out, her life could be in danger. They're male cats."

Kitty said, "We'll keep an eye on them. I'll send Ralphy to watch over her."

After saying this, she began eating. Luna was silent, staring at the table.

Kitty said, "Luna, eat. It's nothing. I'll watch over you."

The twins' mother, who had been silent until now, said to Kitty, "I trust you. I really believe you can protect her."

Kitty gave Luna a deep look, then glanced at each of them and said, "We all have to protect her." At that moment, Kitty noticed Niki's absence.
