Chapter 10:

It's Clear

Hope never lost

After leaving Lucy's house, Touma walked towards his own. As he entered his house, he headed towards his room where he had placed the safe, which he had gotten for the safety of Alice. He took it out and pressed in the code 0417, remembering that this was the day he found Alice, April 17th.

“OK, it opened.” Said Touma as the safe opened.

“It's been some time since I closed this safe.” Said Touma as he laid out all his weapons on top of the bed.

When he took everything out, he closed the safe and put it back where it was. he took all of the weapons and went to the table and placed them there.

As he saw outside the window, he noticed it was getting dark.

“I should go rest; I wonder if Alice is sleeping right now?” said Touma as he had already gotten so used to putting Alice to sleep at this time. He then went to the room and lay on his bed and fell asleep. As the morning shone on Touma’s house, he got up and went to the bathroom. As he readied himself, he put on a doctor’s coat. He went outside to the table and got some of the weapons and put them on his waist and inside his coat. he also took out a case from the closet and brought it to the table. He put it inside the case other supplies he would need to help the injured. Finally, Toma went inside the kitchen and got himself an apple, and left his house.

Touma finally managed to get to the settlement doors and saw the huge group of raiders ready to depart.

“Oh, there's our doctor.” Said Mr. Roger in a proud tone.

“Why so jolly?” Said Touma in a serious tone.

“I know in the meeting we weren't on such good terms because we were in opposite sides but you were just defending what you thought was right and I respect that. After all, we are all in the same side here and any fight there is, it should be resolved with peace.” said Mr. Roger.

Touma was surprised by this side of Mr. Roger that he hadn't noticed.

“I didn't realize that you're not a barbarian who thinks with his fist.” Said Touma.

“Of course not, wait, do people think I'm a barbarian that thinks with his fist?” Said Mr. Rogers, surprised.

“Uh, never mind. Are we ready to head out?” Said Touma.

“Of course, we are just waiting for you.” Said Mr. Rogers as he turned around and faced the crowd of raiders.

“Everybody, listen, we're heading out.” Said Mr. Roger as he lifted his arm and pointed forward.

“Yes, Sir!” exclaimed all the raiders at once as they all marched away.

Sometime later, as they're walking, someone gets closer to Touma, and it's Seki.

“Yo, I heard you're forced to come with us.” Said Seki.

“Yeah, I did, but with all these raiders, I expect the job to be done quickly.” Said Touma.

“Yeah, this is basically all of the Raiders from the settlement, so it will be pretty quick.” Said Seki.

Seki got closer to Touma and hung his arm on Touma's shoulder.

“Hey, don't worry I am one of the bests raiders there is so I'll protect you no matter what.” Said Seki with total confidence giving Touma a thumbs up.

Touma looked at Seki and smiled.

“Thanks, Seki, I really appreciate that.” Said Touma.

At that moment, a loud Commanding voice could be heard from up front. It was Mr. Roger giving an order.

“Raiders, we're getting close to our destination. Ready yourselves.” Yelled Mr. Roger.

As all the raiders took out their weapons, waiting for a command, Mr. Rogers spoke.

“Now go forward and attack.” Yelled Mr. Rogers as he also got out his weapon and ran with them.

The whole group broke down the defensive door of the settlement and entered the settlement, scattering until they all came to an abrupt stop.

“What? Where are they?” said Mr. Roger in his defensive state.

As the Raiders looked around there appeared to be no one in the settlement it was a lifeless place. Until Toma spotted some metal cages with what seem to be like blood, so he started getting closer.

“Hey, where are you going?” Said Seki as he followed Touma.

“Dr. Hidayashi, where are you headed? Asked Mr. Roger.

“There's something strange about those containers. I would like to investigate some more.” Said Touma.

“Alright, everybody scatter and see if you find anyone.” Ordered Mr. Roger as he also followed Touma to the cages along with Seki.

As the three of them got closer to the cages, they looked around.

Touma crouched down.

“I have a feeling these people kept prisoners here, and that might prove the first part of the chief letter,” said Touma until he noticed a small piece of paper on the floor next to the cage.

Touma picked it up.

“Hey, this might be the second part of the ripped letter.” Said Touma.

“Wait, really? What does it say?” asked Seki.

“Yes, please read it.” Said Mr. Roger.

“It says: ‘...eplace. And fix the outer walls. Place Raiders at the doors. And at the centers of the settlement, under any circumstances, don't leave the settlement. Defend it because Zodrick. Has a crystal that can control the monsters. And the first place he wants to attack. Is our settlement.’” Said Touma as his heart sank when reading those last words.

“So he did not want us to raid this place but to defend our own?” Said Mr. Roger as he hurried to call over all of the Raiders.

“So that R was meant to be for replace and fix. Wait, but that means,” Said Seki as he looked back at Touma.

Touma was silent; the surprise and the dread in his face could be seen.

“Alice” Was the only thing Touma could mutter, as he knew what this meant.
