Chapter 8:

Disappear

My Cute Raven: I Really Really Want To Devour You!

*Snap*

The calm and tranquil walk in the woods abruptly halted with the sound of breaking bones under the pair’s feet. They have now entered into a broken ruin of desecrated tree stumps, scattered bones and ground oozing with sticky grey puss.

A natural cave beckoned them with howling winds that channeled within.

In front of the cave was an altar made out of stacked rocks and carved bone ornaments wrapped around in bloodied cloth rags. A statue of a man and a woman stood in front of the cave entrance, one carrying a sword and the other a shield.

“What kind of altar is this?”

“Watch out!”

*Bam!*

Lim lunged and pushed Estra to the ground as they both narrowly avoided being cut in half by giant claws.

“Ahh!!!”

Dust clouds of disturbed dirt and bark scattered throughout the landscape as a beast stood above the pair looking down with glowing red eyes of pure bloodlust. It was a giant mutated wolf like monstrosity of overgrown bone armour and purple fur.

Its teeth grinded together with drool dripping down.

“EWW!!! It's all slimy!”

“Lim, there's no time for that!”

Estra raised forth a metallic wing of obsidian bladed feather out of her armour. She dashed towards with a decisive uppercut that knocked the beast backwards. It stumbled around disoriented, shaking its head in a low growl.

“Look, it's all over me! Estra it's so disgusting!”

“I know. I know. Let me see… hmmm If we take down this beast I'll let you bathe with me!”

Estra blushed with a perverted smile proud of her idea only to be taken down by Lim’s sudden face of seriousness.

“Huh… Be serious Estra.”

“Tsk… buzzkill we’re all adults after all….”

Estra dashed forward with immense speed.

“What's wrong with a plain ol bath!”

*Bang*

Her bladed wings struck at the beast once more. This however failed to penetrate its thick skin.

“I… wouldn’t mind. Really.”

“Huh! Really?”

A sudden lapse of judgement was followed by the beast finally retaliating in anger. Its claws swiped at Estra as she flew into the nearby trees.

*Swoosh*

*Crack*

*Cough*

“Oh shit. That was close!”

“ESTRA!”

“Stay back!”

Lim being the stubborn man, he ignored her and rushed towards the beast. He opened his hand as an orb of fire appeared.

“Take this!”

*Woosh*

Lim threw the fireball at the beast only for it to bounce and sizzle into nothing.

“oh….”

Not knowing what else to do Lim continued to throw the weak orbs of flames hoping to catch its attention. The problem was that it worked too well.

The beast stood still planting its feet deep into the ground as a low vibration emitted out. Its bone-like armour glowed a bright blue.

*Bwoom*

Orbs of pure mana burst out like heat seeking missiles that raced towards Lim. He ducked for cover menuvering in and out of fallen trees.

*Crack*

Lim ran as the projectiles melted clean through his covers, one by one effortlessly.

“Oh shit I think that's the last one!”

The beast was not done as it readied another charge and this time towards the defenceless Lim who could do nothing but cower.

“DAMN MONGREL! DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH HIM!”

Estra jumped up cupping her wings to catch the air as she flew with a burst of speed. In a split second she arrived wrapping her wings around Lim just in time.

*Bang*

*Crack*

Her wings absorbed the impact of the beast’s claws with the obsidian blades slowly shattering. Lim watched on as Estra grew paler than usual. She was breathing erratically and heavily. Watching her he noticed that he was the same, it was hard to breath and everything had begun to blur. He was feeling drowsy all of a sudden.

“Estra whatt… I… It feels off….”

“This place is draining out mana. The closer we are to this monster the greater the effect will be. We need to take it down NOW! Or we will be done for.”

Estra cupped her hands together as an orb of concentrated wind bubbled into a large ball.

“STAY AWAY!”

*Fwossh*

Her wings unfurled as she released her spell.

“HE IS MINE!”

*Woosh*

An immense concentrated gust of wind bloomed and burst outwards sending the beast flying far into the forest. Its body tumbled and hit the trees destroying all in its wake.

“Who is yours?”

“Ahem… I need your help Lim!”

“Oh.. right. Right. What do you need?”

“It's time you fully complete your lesson.”

“What? Right now? I hav–”

“Don’t care! I will pool both our mana together. You said that you figured out how to do the spell right?”

“I did… but it's not very impressive.”

“Idiot. I know you are holding back again.”

“No I. Just….”

Estra wrapped her body around Lim as she held his right arm forward, straightening it facing the monster.

“Your technique is fine but your doubts are limiting its flow. Take a deep breath in.”

Lim followed Estra’s instructions, allowing her to dictate his every move.

“Let it flow. Throw away all doubts and worries and be free.”

“Okay….”

Their bodies quickly had strings of blue lights that coursed throughout their bodies. It converged all around their arms slowly turning orange.

The beast shook its head and returned to its mindless charge.

Lim and Estra paid no mind to the incoming threat but were simply focused in the moment. A low sound of grounding metal pieces echoed as an orb of fire bloomed out like a bright flower.

Estra whispered softly into Lim’s ears as it twitched with redness.

“Don’t be afraid of your heritage.”

Lim’s pure emerald eyes opened, lighting up with bright intensity as the beast appeared only a few metres from them. It lunged for an attack.

Lim uttered in a tone unlike his meek personality. It was strong, bold and with clear intent.

“Disappear!”

*Swishhh*

*Bwoooom*

*Booom*

A ray of concentrated orange energy erupted forth in a devastating beam that rocked the forest with pure energy. The beast was easily pierced as it flew backwards unable to withstand the rushing tidal wave of pure energy. An unmatched destruction that caused untold destruction towards the landscape before fizzling out leaving behind a long burning crater.

Lim pants with heavy breaths and Estra who proudly patted his back with a wide grin on her face.

“I’ll make you a demon yet!”
