Chapter 12:
Hope never lost
Sometime later, Seki comes back to the entrance of the settlement along with a huge number of people.
“Hey, Touma, I'm here.” Said Seki.
“OK, good, and how many are there? Do you have a count?” asked Touma
“For the explorers, there are the total number of 400.” Said Ms. Shaman, who also came along.
Mr. Roger also came close.
“I must apologize because of my decision; we lost many lives.” Said Mr. Roger, not showing his usual prideful self.
“There's no need, I don't hold any grudge against you, I know that you were just doing what you thought was right for the settlement.” Said Ms. Shaman with a smile.
“Thank you.” Send Mr. Roger.
“Touma for the Raiders, there is a total amount of 500.” Said Mr. Roger
“I see.” Said Touma as he looked around at the whole crowd.
“Now separate every person who is a doctor and those who know the basics of first aid.” Said Touma.
As Mr. Roger and Ms. Shaman went around, they put aside the doctors and many of the Exploration and Raiders group that had the basic knowledge to aid someone.
“Now, how many do we have left?” Asked Toma.
“Well, now in the exploration team we have about 340.” Said Ms. Shaman.
“And in the Raiders, we have 450.” Added Mr. Roger.
“I understand well then from the Raiders take out 150 and from the explorers take out the 40 to make it 300.” Said Touma.
They did what he said.
“So, what are you planning to do, Touma?” Ask Ms. Shaman.
“Everybody who has been separated from the main group, we'll stay here. the ones with medical experience will tend to all the wounded that are here in the settlement, and they will stay to defend the settlement as well. The rest of us will go and end what we started, what we set out to do,” exclaimed Touma.
“Are you crazy? That means you want to go with no doctors.” Said Ms. Shaman.
“Toma, you might be a really great doctor, but one doctor can't attend to 600 people.” Said Mr. Roger.
“I know I was not planning to attend to you guys, I was planning to fight, we are all going to fight because if it's true what Junkei said about this guy Zodrick guy having a rock that can control the infected. Then there might be a slim possibility that if we obtain this rock or even a piece of it, we might be able to reverse the infection process,” said Touma.
“Isn't that but a slim chance?” Said Mr. Roger.
“Yes, it is, but I am willing to bet on this slim chance, a slim chance to save our settlement, a slim chance of saving all of humanity, and a slim chance of saving Alice.” Said Touma.
Toma started walking forward and faced the whole crowd.
“Look at this settlement this is your home your friends, your family live here but they won't for much longer if we don't go and deal with this danger because there is a slim chance that we might be able to save all of them because we don't just fight to survive, we fight to protect. So, lift your heads up as we strive into the battle, we shall come back alive and with a cure. But if we don't, we will at least die trying. But I have hope that we will go through this because hope is the last thing we'll lose.” Said Touma, looking around in the crowd.
Suddenly, the crowd started cheering.
“Yeah, let's go kill these monsters.” Said one of the raiders
“They won't escape us.” Said an explorer
“Let's save humanity.” Said another raider
“I see all of our people have a great resolve, but there's one question: how will we know where Zodrick is?” Asked Mr. Roger.
“We will be following one of the infected.” Said Touma.
“Wait, what?” Questioned Miss Shaman.
“One of the chemics told me he couldn’t get into the bunkers in time, but he survived the attack, but then the Infected started leaving. He got out of his hiding spot; it seems like all of the Infected were heading in the same direction.” Said Toma.
“How can you be sure that they're all going to the same place?” Ask Mr. Roger.
“This chemist relates that one of the infected passed right next to him and totally ignored him as if all of them were being drawn to somewhere or something.” Said Touma.
“And where are we going to get that monster?” Said Mr. Roger.
“Thankfully, the chemist team had one locked up.” Said Touma as four people brought over a cage.
Touma looked at the crowd.
“Is everybody ready to head out?” Yelled Touma.
Everyone in the crowd unanimously said yes.
“Then free the infected.” Said Touma as he pointed toward the exit of the settlement.
Once the infected person was let out of the cage, it started heading straight out of the settlement, and the crowd turned to face the entrance of the settlement; they started heading out. Touma took the lead along with Mr. Roger and Mrs. Shaman behind him as they all followed the infected. Every explorer and every Raider was fully armed and ready for the battle as the explorers and raiders talked about different strategies.
“Look, there's something in the distance.” Said Mr. Roger.
Just as Mr. Roger said in the distance, it could be seen a huge Monument and surrounding the monument, there were a huge number of infected walking around the monument. suddenly, from the entrance of the monument, came out running a person, but the infected attacked him and devoured him.
“Aaargh!” said the man getting devoured.
As that was happening someone else came out of the entrance a tall man with long red hair he was wearing a flowered T-shirt and a white coat on top of it with a golden chain around his neck he walked out casually in the middle of all the monsters but none of the monsters attacked they all stood still and then kneeled to him.
“Ha, ha, ha, I'm not so fond of making new friends, but you guys will do well as part of my ascension.” Said the man was he revealed in his hand a green glowing orb and pointed towards us.
As he did that, the monsters started going to Touma and everybody with him.
“This is it, what do you guys think about ending this story?” Said Touma.
“We've got your back,” said Mr. Roger and Ms. Shaman unanimously as they readied their weapons.
Everybody is ready with their weapons, and we're ready to attack.
“Attack!” yelled Toma.
