Chapter 24:
My Dear Dictator
Pierre is walking around a corridor. he then hears footsteps behind him. Mr. Bark stands behind him holding a pistol. he aims at Pierre.
"You lied to me. you told me that Assmann was going to die today. this was a trap. I feel stupid for listening to you." said Bark feeling like a traitor.
"You sold out your people for nothing. how sad." said Pierre mocking him.
Bark falls on his knees. he is broken. he never intended to put his team in danger. it was all about finding Hannes Assmann's real identity. he was too obsessed with finding the dictator that he neglected his own teammates.
as Bark is crying and feeling broken and guilty. he finally grabs the pistol. he was about to shoot the enemy. then some Royal Assmann soldiers come in. one of them shoots Bark in the head from behind. he falls on the ground dead. there were tears on his eyes.
Pierre keeps moving on with his mission. there are multiple names to eliminate. he can later solve the issues between him and his beloved Grace. he commands the army. he tells them who to attack and who to leave alone.
"Don't forget men. we all fall into a certain role. our role is to fix the torments over our master's shoulders. we must protect his dignity." yields Pierre.
"What do we do sir. I mean, if we live survivors then people would ask what happened. we need a cover story." said a random soldier.
"I have the titular for a news article right on the tip of my tongue. teachers lose their mind out of rage because economy, unfaithful lovers, and annoying kids. then they finally explode, and then they plan the worse crime ever in the history of America." said Pierre in a cold tone of voice with bright sinister eyes.
then they keep moving up. they walk around. the kids who aren't in the kill list are sedated and moved inside of a truck to keep them safe. every soldier is meticulous with every action taken without fucking up. they move evenly keeping the steps consistent.
then there are some kids who are taken down easily. there are some staff members or other people who stepped in there who are also killed. they have no mercy towards those who aren't worth keeping around. they keep moving coldly and emotionless.
Pierre looks at the few bodies around the floor. he feels nothing. it doesn't matter how many have to be taken out. as long as the job is done. there is no reason to feel sorry or bad about them or anyone else. the only person who matters is Grace.
"Oh, father in hell I found my castle. in heaven the recipient of my heart. in a trench I find my ego being subjected to a test to question my loyalty. oh, father. I wish I was blind to not be subjected to such brutal beauty. a hell of my making." whispers Pierre.
while people are killed left and right. some are taken out of there. then there are some students hiding in the bathroom.
Timothy, Martin, and Patricia are hiding among others. they don't know what to do. Martin is trembling feeling scare. he tells the others to be stay calm. Patricia is hugging Timothy trying to find comfort on his arms.
they will need to leave sooner or later. Martin opens the door. he looks at the others. he lets them know that they need to leave now. Martin walks out of there. Timothy and Patricia decided to follow him. there is another guy who follows them. they have no time to care about others when their lives are on danger.
it didn't take long for the soldiers to get to the bathroom. they eliminate some and take others to the truck. Martin trembles as he hears the gunshots. he is sweating cold. his life has never been on danger before. he is a nerd. a nerd who can't fight.
the four of them keep walking slowly. every step taken is careful. they avoid attracting the attention of the soldiers. the fourth person introduces himself as Alfred Williams. he is a twenty-four-year-old guy studying chemistry.
Martin is almost crying. he finds strength from out of nowhere. he wants to survive. he doesn't know what to do or where to go. Martin is no leader. he thinks hard. but there is not a single solution coming to him. he feels defeated.
Pierre steps in front of them. he looks at them with a sinister smile.
"What are your intentions? what will you do to us?" asks Timothy trembling.
"Fratello. nothing to you. or her. not sure about the older guy. but him. he needs to be gone. orders of our master." said Pierre smiling.
Martin pushes the others away. he starts to run away. Pierre sends some soldiers to follow him with a sinister smile. Pierre is bored by the whole ordeal. he just wants to go back to Grace's embraced and feel the comfort of her soul.
"What truth is hidden behind such sorrowful eyes." said Alfred.
"Nothing that should bother you. soon you will forget what happened today. it will all be a long nightmare that never happened. I be a phantom that came in with careful steps. a shadow that no one will miss. and that is all you need." said Pierre in a wooden emotionless tone of voice not even trying to conceal his disdain for humanity.
on the other hand, Martin keeps running away. he is too scared. he stopped thinking straight the moment he was told that they would kill him too.
"Bern. where are you. Bern, help me bro. I need you Bern." yields Martin feeling desperate as he hears steps coming after him.
Martin was all by himself. he is used to doing everything with Bernard. the steps sound closer and closer by the minute. he looks behind to see some soldiers following him. Martin keeps running around the corridor.
his feet feel light and fragile. every step taken becomes slower than the previous one. he is too tired almost out of breath. he is breathing loudly. he is sweating like never before. Martin's body wants to give up. but he keeps running. pushing for his survival.
Martin was never a kid to think deep about things. he only cared about the simple pleasures in life like books and comics. he loved everything related to literature. and because of his point of view about the world, he was mostly alone. his only ever friend was Bernard. now Martin thinks about books as he keeps running.
after some time running, he gets out of there. he goes to the parking lot. the bus is finally at a visible distance. he yields for his best friend. he looks at some soldiers surrounding the bus and shooting. it is too late for Martin to turn around he keeps running.
someone drops a smoke grenade making it hard to see. Martin stops for a second. he can't keep running anymore. in the middle of all that chaos he finds Bernard slightly visible between the smoke. Martin smiles.
"Behind you." yields Bernard.
then BANG.
