CHEERS!

Two days later, Shibuya.

Three hours left until the meteorite strikes.

In the last two days, we wandered through Shibuya without a care, later leaving the city to explore other areas of Tokyo, all the while watching the meteorite that has grown significantly in size.

It’s crazy how, back in Yokohama, the meteor felt far away, but now it seems like it could hit us in just hours, minutes, or even seconds…

Yet despite that,

“Yuiko!” Alice points towards a tall building in the distance. “Let’s climb the Tokyo Tower!”

“Ehhh?” I droop my shoulders. “I really don’t want to climb though…”

“Come oonnn~” Alice pulls on my arm. “Trust me, it’ll be worth it!”

“Will it be worth killing my legs for?” I moan out.

“Absolutely!” Alice determinedly exclaimed. “Now come on! I don’t want to miss it!”

“Alriiight…”

Not like it matters anyway…

Tokyo Tower, one hour left until the meteorite strikes.

After half an hour of walking, we enter the building and make our way through the area until we finally reach an opening. Here, we see a gate labeled 'Stairs600,' accompanied by a sign saying that there are approximately six hundred steps and that it will take about fifteen minutes to reach the top.

“See, it’s not that far.” Alice placed her hand on her hips.

“Six-hundred…”

“Come on now!” Alice pulls on my right arm. “We can take a break once we’re up there, so let’s go!”

“Gueehhh…” My shoulders droop as I let Alice pull me along.

We eventually take the first step upwards, heading towards the top of Tokyo Tower.

Alice walks in front of me at a fast pace, and while I was able to keep up with her in the beginning, I started to lose a lot of steam somewhere midway through the journey. As we get higher and higher, the sight of a destroyed Tokyo becomes more and more apparent.

Structures adorned with vines, their exteriors fully revealed…

Streets with roots and cracks scattered throughout…

Several toppled down trees…

“…”

I wonder if there’s any value in doing all of this…

I wonder if this whole journey has any meaning…

Maybe it doesn’t have any, and all we ended up doing is wasting our time…

I see Alice ahead of me, climbing the stairs with a straight posture.

The ladder is designed in a circular motion, so the moment Alice turned to ascend the next flight of stairs,

A serene expression was plastered on her face…

As if she’s ascending towards the heavens.

“…”

Just seeing that sight alone is enough of an answer to all of my wonders…

There’s no need to answer them…

All we have to worry about is what we will do next…

Before long, we eventually reached the second-highest point of the Tokyo Tower.

“…”

“…”

The glasses on the buildings are shattered, sending strong winds swirling around us as we look down at the extensive devastation the city has suffered.

Several buildings have fallen upon one another, trees have bent downward, and some land areas are scorched, likely due to a fire caused by an electrical pole.

Yet, despite all this,

This tower still stands tall…

Despite most of the citizens’ lives being taken due to the large wind currents and earthquakes, somehow, most of mankind’s creations did not meet their demise, proving the incredible outcome of what our imagination could create.

“…”

Alice and I silently gaze into the sky.

In the distance, the meteorite’s color gives off a large streak of blue, its speed gradually increasing as it points downwards.

Once that meteor strikes, everything that mankind has created will come to an end.

As if to mock humanity’s perseverance…

“…Yuiko,” Alice looks at me, her face brightening. “Let’s check out that bar!” She points to a sign that displays the word bar.

“…Yeah!” I move a few steps ahead of her. “We’ve never drunk together, so let’s do it!”

“Oooh!” Alice placed her hand on her chin. “Now that I think about it, that is true!”

“Right?!” I place my hands on my hips.

“Hehe… hahahaha!” Alice jogs forward, quickly leaving me behind.

“No fair!” I shouted, running after her.

After a light jog, we arrived at a bar that had been completely demolished. At first, Alice grew anxious, but she briefly scanned around the surrounding cabinets to see if she could procure something.

“We got wine!” Alice raised the bottle high.

*Whiiiirrrr*

“Let’s goo!” I screamed as I got closer to her.

*Shooooooo*

“Well, we don’t have glasses, so we’re just gonna have to drink directly!” Alice opens the bottle with aggression, causing the cap to fly off.

“…”

*Shoooooooooo*

“Well…” Alice holds the bottle out to me. “Cheers to reaching Tokyo!” She tipped the bottle to her lips and gulped down most of its contents.

“Cheers!”

*Whiiiiirrr*

“Buaaah!” Alice hands the bottle over to me, a grin plastered on her face. “Tastes disgusting!”

“Hehehe!” I grab the bottle from her hand, raising it high. “Cheers for losing my virginity!”

*Sizzleee*

“Cheers!” Alice raised her right hand up high.

*Crack* *Crack*

I press the bottle into my lips, letting the warm liquid go through my throat.

*Crack crack crack*

“BUAAAAH!” I lowered the bottle from my hand. “Tastes like shit!”

*Rumble rumble*

“Right?!” Alice shouts out.

A huge, contented smile lights up her face.

As a flash of white blinded my vision.

*BOOM*
