Chapter 11:
Ripped Away
Sasaki laughed hysterically as he stood in the middle of the abandoned warehouse. He was topless, with a mark engraved on his chest and face, and the white part of his eyes had turned into an inky black color, with the veins on his eyes being a blue color like his iris.
The Uncle stared at him in disbelief, seeing Sasaki alive yet again. After all, he saw him chopped into bits, and hell, even eaten alive. He saw him die, but he was back, alive and kicking.
“What the fuck.”
“Hehe… helloo! Uncle! Aren’t you proud to see your nephew alive again?! ”
The Blood-red anomaly didn’t look surprised compared to him. Knowing that Sasaki had passed the trial of the soul, and is more lethal than before.
Considering his inhuman feats as a normal human, his strength had been multiplied by the Kigai Factor after he passed the trial. Though it was curious about one thing,
“You passed the trial. Well, I’m not surprised… you’re already strong to begin with.”
“Trial?! What trial are you talking about?! ”
The Uncle was even more puzzled than before. First, Miyuki was stronger than he anticipated; second, Sasaki somehow resurrected from the dead.
—What’s with this bloodline? Are they super soldiers or something?!
“You’ve seen Kigai users, right? ”
“Yeah, I work for one,”
A thought had sparked in The Uncle’s mind after hearing the statement the creature made.
“Wait, you’re not telling me Sasaki is—”
“He is. You see, there are two ways to get a Kigai: one is through a covenant with an anomaly, and one is through dying at the hands of an anomaly. And this kid passed the trial, and now he has some sort of Kigai. I doubt he would figure it out immediately, though, so he would just be a piece of cake to kill.”
“You talk big! You talk so much shit! ”
He giggled erratically, then in the blink of an eye, The Uncle had been tossed like a ragdoll across the entire warehouse as a large cloud of dust enveloped the ceiling.
The Anomaly’s pupils dilated, seeing that Sasaki hadn’t even moved from his place.
He was scratching his head as small strands were falling off the ground. He stared at the Anomaly with a maniacal grin.
“Oh? Where is Uncle? Did he leave already? ”
—What the hell just happened… I didn’t even see him move.
“Is anything wrong? Why are you staring at me like that? You know… I hate being stared at! ”
He appeared out of thin air in front of the puzzled anomaly. Clawing the creature with his nails in a frenzy, as blood splattered all over him like red paint, he spilled all over him.
“How’d you like this, and that and this, and that and that that that! ”
Out of fear, the creature grasped Sasaki with its claws, its fingers piercing his upper body as it slammed him repeatedly into the ground before throwing him across the entire warehouse.
But there was no impact, no dust had formed; he simply had disappeared out of nowhere. Then suddenly, the anomaly felt a cuddling sensation behind him.
“Smooth, I love smooth! ”
The anomaly was startled as it eagerly tried to get Sasaki off its back. While he treated it like a bull ride, it was clear that he was toying with the anomaly, and he was doing this with the most maniacal smile on his face.
He gripped the Anomaly’s hard skin, ripping it out like paper, doing it in a repetitive manner as the anomaly desperately tried to reach his back with its small, thin arms.
“Slushie! Slush Slush Slush! ”
Sasaki pierced both of his arms on the anomaly’s back in an attempt to find some sort of treasure, while the anomaly tried its best to resist. As he was doing so, he felt a soft yet sharp feeling in his hand,
“It’s flogging time! ”
He pulled out the Anomaly’s spinal cord with a wide grin, whipping it around like a rope, destroying parts of the warehouse, as the rubble crushed both of them.
“Whoops—”
“Well… this is one way to start my morning.”
A charming blond man with a tall stature was sitting in his office chair inside a small room. He was staring at the busy cityscape from the large window in front of him. His feet were gently pressed on the glass, wearing a black suit, as the sun was directly shining on his green eyes. Though it didn’t look as if he felt irritated by it.
“What better way to live than to relax and look down at the people walking on the street? ”
He spoke to himself out of boredom. Like everyone does. Though it wasn’t like he didn’t have anything to do—he had plenty of paperwork placed on his desk—he seemed to ignore everything except for the beautiful view of the city.
“Yozo-san! ”
Someone knocked at the door.
“Ryuji? Is that you? ”
“I’m going to come in! ”
The voice shouted before barging into the room. In front of the well-made door stood a man wearing something somewhat resembling a tracksuit; the fiber looked sturdy, and it had a dark complexion, with the words ‘Division 13’ engraved on the collar.
Yozo turned around to look at the man, revealing a boy wearing an eyepatch on his left eye. He had long hair, tied up on his head, and a charming face.
“Ah, Ryuji! What brings you here? You’re gonna treat me to some grub? ”
Ryuji smiled forcibly, irritated that Yozo hadn’t even touched a single bit of paperwork on his desk.
“I was about to, then I noticed you hadn’t even touched your paperwork.”
“Huh? I was supposed to do this? Sorry, sorry, they looked like hard copies.”
Ryuji sighed, exasperated, knowing that he couldn’t do anything to convince his superior. He’d always been like this, not doing his job. But he always gets away with it, be it in a stupid way or an unthinkable way.
“Well… enough about forcing you to do paperwork; I’m here to report something important.”
Yozo grinned from ear to ear, not expecting to hear these words from Ryuji. To him, those words were like the Gospel, the secrets of the universe disclosed to him. He felt happy.
“Oh, you’re gonna do my paperwork?! How sweet of my subordinate! I might put in a good word for you to the higher-ups due to your modesty! ”
“Over my dead body.”
Ryuji said with a blank tone, as Yozo’s soul had left his body, crashing onto his desk.
“You hurt me, Ryuji… you should never give people false hope.”
“Ahem… Well, if you’re done babbling nonsense, I suppose I could start my report? ”
Yozo raised his hand in a thumbs-up. He did not have the strength to stand up after receiving such severe emotional damage.
“Okay, there was this kid we found under the rubble of an abandoned warehouse, and with the kid was one of the notorious crime lords from the 13th Street, Jose Galang, a Filipino man around the age of forty, also known for the alias “The Uncle,” and I’m sure you’re already aware of his crimes, so I’m not going to disclose that too.”
Yozo sat up straight as soon as he heard the words ‘13th Street,’ looking rather attentive compared to his antics earlier.
Ryuji paid no attention, clearing his throat before continuing his report.
“Anyways, he was reported to be dead on arrival on his way to the hospital; the bastard was tough enough to survive being thrown off the rooftop, but he soon bled out. Also, it looked like he was about to illegally form a covenant with a Class 5 Anomaly. That itself isn’t much of a big deal, though; I’m here to speak of the kid. He’s nameless; he had no ID on him and no biological records. He’s basically a ghost. And what makes it worse is that he looked like a Kigai bearer.”
“So? Have you interrogated him? ”
“We tried to, but the kid was so high after getting his Kigai that we had to drug him to calm him down. For now, he’s currently being held in a private holding cell under this building, and since he’s all John Doe, he specifically wanted Nakahara-chan to be the one personally interrogating him.”
Yozo’s jaw dropped as he scratched his head in irritation, kicking his feet like a child begging his parents for candy.
“Huh?! Why me! Why does it always have to be me interrogating these Kigai users?! Are you sure he didn’t mean my cousin or something? ”
“Well, we tried to, but he ended up hitting on her instead of answering our questions… so we—”
Yozo was lost for words. To think that someone was hitting on his cousin mid-interrogation. He knew his cousin was much more charming than him and all, but this was just over the line!
“Unacceptable! I’ll interrogate that bastard! ”
The paperwork on his desk flew everywhere as soon as he stood from his chair. He had a virtuous look in his eyes as he made his way to the entrance.
“Also… can you call a cab? My car broke down last week.”
—Seriously… why hasn’t this guy grown up yet?
