Chapter 1:
My classmate is secretly a dullahan!
I ran to school with my best friend, Kiriya Miyazaki, she slowly walked beside me. “Why running so fast Hikari?” Kiriya asked. “I heard there is going to be a new student and I am excited to meet them!” I said. Kiriya then ran to catch up with me, we were almost at school anyway, it was a rainy day so I was wearing my pink jacket and holding a polka dot covered umbrella. Me and Kiriya then went inside and changed our rain boots by the lockers, we went inside and I saw someone new at the back of the class. He had blonde hair, a hoodie and brown eyes that seemed to glare at me, I just sat down in my seat. “Hello class, today we have a new student at school, his name is Asahi Yoshimura, Asahi, why don’t you introduce yourself?” The teacher asked politely. “Okay, listen up idiots. My name is Asahi, and I am from Russia, and just so you know, none of you are my friends yet!” Asahi said. I wondered why he was being so cold to all my classmates. “Asahi, maybe try being less intense next time,” the teacher said calmly. “Im sorry Mrs. Fujiwara,” Asahi said, although he gave a second glare to all the students. Despite his rudeness, I saw some girls blushing and looking at him. “Okay, today we are learning about fractions!” Ms. Fujiwara said, as though fractions were the equivalent of going to disneyland. 40 boring minutes of algebra later….I went outside for recess and went on the swings with Kiriya. “The new kid seems strange, he is so hostile!” Kiriya complained while on the swing. “Yeah, but there is something that seems off about him, like he is hiding something,” I said, Kiriya looked at me teasingly. Oh no! “Hikari, do you like him?” Kiriya asked. “No, I am just saying he seems weird,” I said. I forgot to bring my umbrella for recess so my hair was drenched with rain water. Then the bell rang and we went inside again. I felt tired through History and Engilish, Asahi was as hostile as ever the entire day. In engilish, we were making a short story in groups. The teacher for engilish, Ms. Fujimoto (why do all our teachers names start with F?) wanted to pick for us. “Kiriya will be paired with Sato, Karuta will be paired with Misako and Asahi will be paired with Hikari,” ms. Fujimoto said. Asahi came over to my table to work with me on the story. “What do you think we should write about? I have tons of ideas,” I asked. “I think we should write a horror story,” he said. “I have some ideas for that, what about yandere?” I asked him. “No, that is terrible and cliche,” Asahi said. I hated to admit it but he was sort of right, most people did do yandere stories so it was a little unoriginal. “What about there is a haunted school,” I suggested. “Sure, that is a little better, I could work with that, want to work on it after school?” Asahi asked. He seemed a little less mean so I nodded. After school I heard a knock on my door, I knew who it was before answering, Asahi. I answered it and I saw Asahi, his hands were in his pockets, he was wearing a black leather raincoat and his brown eyes seemed to glint in a way that I couldn’t explain. I blushed and he slapped me. “Well, don’t stand there like an idiot. Let me in!” Asahi said, well…forget about what I thought about him changing his personality. Asahi trodded into the house and went upstairs. “I didn’t give you permission to go there!” I said, but he ignored me. I followed him and we sat on the floor of my room. “Who do you think should be the main characters?” Asahi asked. I then sketched a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, I wrote the name Kita above. “I have an idea. Maybe Kita is a spy from the underworld,” Asahi suggested. “I thought this was about a haunted school but okay,” I said. Asahi then kept going on and on with ideas, he was actually a very good partner despite his hostility earlier this day. “This is very good Asahi but it is not coming together, you suggested a spy from the underworld but then you said she fights zombies. That doesn’t make much sense,” I said to Asahi dubiously. “Oh, okay. Maybe we should just stick with the ‘zombie fighter’ idea,” Asahi said. It was almost dinner so Asahi went home. I then decided to text Kiriya.
KIRIYA: How did the group project with the baka go?
HIKARI: He is NOT a baka, he honestly was really nice
KIRIYA: Hikari and Asahi sitting in a tree 🎶
HIKARI: Shut up
KIRIYA: Is it true, do you like Asahi?
HIKARI: No
KIRIYA: ok
~ End of chat ~
I then went downstairs and saw my little brother, Akira, playing with a paper airplane he made. Akira was in kindergarten and likes to do crafts. I then went to the table and saw a huge plate of hot pot. “Ooh, you didn’t tell me we are having hot pot today,” I said to my mom. “Yeah, I wanted to make it a surprise,” Mom said. It looked so delicious, I was ready to dig in but right before I ate, I heard a WHOOSH! And my bowl of hot pot had a paper airplane nose-dive into it. “Akira, don’t play with paper planes in the dining room,” Mom said. “Okay,” Akira said. Mom laughed and I took the paper airplane out and handed it to Akira, although it now had hot pot sauce on the tip of it. As I ate, I thought about Asahi, he was a very good group project partner but was Kiriya right, was I in love with him? And if so, was I making a mistake?
